I'd like to travel back in time and make  sure Wannastadt never became the Dolphins coach. Then Ilike to make sure we took Drew Breeze in the draft. Then I'd Hit a Lotto game or two.  ;)

If you'll note he only thinks you can go forward in time, not back. 

He is not talking about time travel in the sense of the movie "back to the future" but simply the concept that time is relative....

It is would be theoretically possible to launch into space ship and return to earth in what on earth would be 100 years but would only seem like 10 years on the rocket-ship.  Likewise one could blast into space and it could feel like 10 years on the rocket, but only be one year on earth. 

In both cases time continues to move forward, it is just that it moves forward at different rates.   

This is not a new concept I studied in college in the 80s.

Interesting. He did say he was always reluctant to discuss it, but know isn't afraid to speak about the possibilities.

I think the reason he was reluctant to discuss it, is whenever anyone does the average Joe starts thinking in terms of "back to the future" and discussion gets stupid.  So physicists general just don't go there. 

I can imagine it would be really tough to have a normal conversation with the guy.

The problem is in trying to envision a rocket ship capable of making that trip or an individual being able to withstand the trip.  There are many many obstacles to overcome.  The theory is solid, but it's impractical to the point that it will pretty much always just be a theory.

That's what was once said about Goddard's rockets, traveling faster than the speed of sound, hitting a ship a torpedo, circumventing the globe, wireless phones, motion pictures, going to the moon,...etc.  All nice theories but impractical to the point that it will pretty much always just be a theory.  While I am not predicting we see this implemented in my lifetime, I won't bet against 2200 technology taking the same type of jump that we have seen since 1800.
