Title: Game ball: Week 2, MIA @ MIN
Post by: Spider-Dan on September 19, 2010, 03:52:28 pm
When there are multiple defensive players worthy of the honor (Wake, J.Allen, Dansby, Davis), I say:

Mike Nolan.

Jason Allen for game ball. He was beast mode.

This is the inverse of last year's Vikings home opener.

Last year, Favre shined and hit an end-of-game TD to validate why the Vikings coaxed him out of retirement.

This year, he stinks up the Metrodome, failed to get it up to end the game several times, and should leave people wondering why the Vikings coaxed him out of retirement again.

Vontae Davis really had a stand out game.  But cheers all around to the defense.

A big FU to Ronnie and Ricky.

Jason Allen.  HM to Vontae, wake and marshall.  Marshall with about as good of stats as you can get when you play with a checkdown qb.

Jason Allen.  Two picks, plus a third he should have had but for penalty. HM to Dansby, Davis, Wake, and Sean Smith.  (Mostly) great game by the defense.

DEFENSE :o :o :o
The defense won this game for Miami.  I am so worried about when the defense has a bad game, that our offense aside from 1 big throw didn't do anything 2nd week in  a row.  Miami needs to fix this offense fast.  both star running backs fumble inside the 10yd line is disgraceful  (ricky and ronnie =goats).    Henne is afraid of making a mistake.  His idol must be Trent Dilfer!!!.  another win, no style points for the offense

What did sean smith do?

insane monster blanket coverage on stank-ho on the 4th down play to win the game

A play that will not show up on the highlight reel is on the last drive, Favre threw a pass that was almost completed, but Vontae stuck with the play and knocked the ball out. It was massive.

Imagine that Tepop finds someway to insult Henne with a backhanded compliment to Marshall

Henne started out pretty good but something happened. Either, as the commentators point out, he has been coachedto be EXTREMELY conservative or he can't deal with the pressure and always tries to check it down, or..... somehow all of our receivers are covered all the time (I doubt). The game ball goes to the entire defense.

the defense is the obvious answer but def an honorable mention to Jake Long.  Jared Allen's name was hardly mentioned in this game and many a times Long stopped Allen in his tracks.

Jake Long should get lots of love from this game.  He totally man handled Jared Allen.  I have never seen anyone totally remove Allen from the game.

Jason Allen, Vontae and Dansby can split it evenly, imo...

Jason Allen and Vontae Davis.  HM to Bret Favre for stinking just a little bit more than our offense.

Jason Allen's INT was one of the sickest plays I've ever seen.

to be fair, allen did get to Henne a few times, and put some good pressure on him

he got his hands on him twice when Henne ran directly into him while he was being blocked.

not true, he broke into the pocket and flushed him out more than once

Well Jason Allen had a good day but Farve gave him 2 gimmies. One he threw right at him the other Allen was fielding a punt esentially.

Vontae played a better game

I only recall the bootleg to the right where Jared Allen got a hold of Henne in the 4th quarter.

It looked to me Allen was near, but not on Henne at all in the pocket.  After the QB leaves the pocket, all bets are off on pass blocking.

What about Wake?  He had two sacks and I believe he stripped the ball for that defensive td we had (don't know for sure...I had to work today so I missed most of the game).

lots of people deserve this that have already been mentioned

Vontae Davis
Jason Allen
Jake Long
Cameron Wake

All of these players get my game ball(s).  A great defensive effort today.  Vontae is turning into a shut-down corner and BOTH of our corners are bad-ass tacklers.  Long manhandled one of the game's best pass rushers.  And Wake had good pressure all game, and the fumble in the end zone ended up being the game winner.

Overall, the defense is turning out to be the team's strong point.

It's nice to be able to develop an offense.  Hopefully, we'll have one while our defense is still good.

In all seriousness, though, a team can't live on defense alone.  (Hello, Baltimore.  That must piss Cam Cameron off to no end.  HAHA)
At some point, an actual NFL offense must be cultivated from the mind of Dan Henning.

I see that the coaching staff is trying to develop a young QB, but at some point, you've got to take the gloves off in order to see what you've got.  I think we have the makings of a pretty good receiver corps.  Why not use all 45 on your active roster?

Jason Allen.

for as much as he was the goat for being picked by Saban in the 1st round, the man has stayed the path of playing hard, doing whatever he can to show he has some skills in this league.

props to him for proving the naysayers wrong.  good luck to him for the rest of the season.

There are SO MANY defensive players I want to give a Game Ball to.  The defense was unstoppable.  So I have to give it to Mike Nolan agian.

Wake. Without his forced fumble, we don't win the game.

The D was pretty impressive yesterday but I too am guilty of shitting on Jason Allen over the years and he has been solid this season. Yesterday he was a badass so I will go with Allen this week.

Without Dansby's stop, we don't win the game, either.

There were many of those plays. Wake seemed to be getting the short end so I used that one.

Allen was never the goat, Saban for making that pick was
