Title: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: MikeO on September 30, 2010, 06:34:28 pm Sep 30 Offensive coordinator Dan Henning said that Brown has been "nicked," revealing Thursday that the running back dealt with a hamstring issue in Sunday's game against the Jets, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
If he goes down again we are screwed Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: CF DolFan on September 30, 2010, 07:15:22 pm I made comment during the game we seemed to be using Ricky when I thought Ronnie would have been back. Ronnie returned but I'm betting something was causing him issues.

Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: MikeO on October 01, 2010, 07:42:38 am Berkeley, the way we spent every draft pick (except 1) on defense this pat year. Next year it would be nice to do the same thing on offense.
Get a RB, get a legit TE, a speed WR, get a 3rd down scat RB type. Add some depth to the o-line. Just go all out and revamp our offense. I agree here. The defense got their overhaul last draft. Time for the offense to get theirs in this one. The offense hardly needs an overhaul. Unless Henne is deemed "not good enough" (and not by Tepop), pretty much all the major pieces would seem to be in place: Quarterback, stud left tackle, stud wide receiver, speed receiver, slot receiver, solid fullback... Sure, it is about time to get some solid running back talent, in case R&R break down (and for the future, in any case). Other than that, though... Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Sunstroke on October 01, 2010, 02:08:42 pm I'd like to see Miami grab a "pedigreed" RB in the first three rounds next season...one that has "feature back" upside, rather than "platoon-fodder," and at least a couple of interior O-linemen. If we can get decent value on a developmental QB to back up Henne (or maybe replace him some day), that'll work as well. Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Philly Fin Fan on October 01, 2010, 02:17:24 pm I know Parcells isn't really that involved anymore (however, these are Parcells protege's making decisions now) -but isn't the Parcells school of thought on RB's that you never draft them in high rounds? I remember in Dallas it was Jerry Jones who wanted Julius Jones so high, and Parcells was happier with Marion Barber, who was a later pick, and saw more value in him. I know I've brought this up before (the first draft, when they took two RB's in later rounds).
Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Dave Gray on October 01, 2010, 02:53:38 pm I think that O-line is what makes 75% of RBs. If you don't have holes, you can't run, no matter how good you are. A good RB will be the difference between a yard here or there (and that's huge), but at this point, our run blocking hasn't been exactly stellar.

Other than that, though... I'd be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to Lex Hilliard. He hasn't had a lot of chances, but I think he's shown a lot of promise if the R&R express ever derails.Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: StL FinFan on October 01, 2010, 03:34:46 pm ^ agree. I like Lex also and I hope he gets the chance to compete for the starting job.

He hasn't had a lot of chances, but I think he's shown a lot of promise if the R&R express ever derails. That one game against Carolina where he was backing up Ricky, I saw him take a draw on 3rd and 13 and scamper 16 yards. This kid has some springs in his legs. With Ricky and Ronnie both free agents after this season, don't be surprised to see Lex taking the handoffs from Henne next year. But it wouldn't surprise me if they bring in some competition. Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Phishfan on October 01, 2010, 04:26:16 pm Lex can be a backup. I really don't relish the idea of him as a #1 back.

I'm sorry all of our WR's (including Marshall) are on the slow side. That isn't a knock against any of them, but just a fact. We need a burner to open up the field for us Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: MikeO on October 01, 2010, 05:21:05 pm I know Parcells isn't really that involved anymore (however, these are Parcells protege's making decisions now) -but isn't the Parcells school of thought on RB's that you never draft them in high rounds? But Parcells also gave the Jets a bunch of high draft picks to get Curtis Martin if I remember correctly. So... That isn't a knock against any of them, but just a fact. We need a burner to open up the field for us I'm not sure if he was referring to Hartline or not, but I believe that Hartline is faster than you might imagine. Then there is Marlon Moore who is supposed to be fairly fast. I'm not sure that either of these guys qualify as a "burner", but they're not slow either.Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: berkeley223 on October 01, 2010, 05:55:12 pm I agree next year's draft (never too early to think about the draft!) should be top-heavy on O. We need a new starting RB---one with some speed who can actually take it to the house on any given play. The good news is you can usually get one of the top 3 RBs any year in the late 20s. We also need a new starting TE who can stretch the field. I wouldn't be averse to another WR with some speed, or a backup OT (we have zero depth there and if there's an injury we're totally screwed). 2 or 3 of these in the first 4 rounds would work. Our O is nowhere near a finished product.
Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: MikeO on October 01, 2010, 05:58:37 pm Hartline and Bess are good WR's, don't get me wrong. But if we had a burner to put on the opposite side of Marshall who would demand saftey help, that would leave Marshall open all day long. And in many more 1-on-1's.
Hartline and Bess don't have that kind of speed. Not a knock, just a fact. I like both and don't want to get rid of either but if we could add a guy to that group, watch out!!! Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Pappy13 on October 01, 2010, 06:12:55 pm Hartline and Bess are good WR's, don't get me wrong. But if we had a burner to put on the opposite side of Marshall who would demand saftey help, that would leave Marshall open all day long. And in many more 1-on-1's. Hartline may end up being that WR, not Bess he's quick but not fast. That opening throw to Hartline in the last game was not just some lame attempt to get the DB's to back off, that play can actually work. Dan Marino criticized Hartline on the play because all he did was try to outrun the DB which he did, but didn't really create any seperation which is what makes the throw easier. “The one play, [Brian] Hartline had a deep ball thrown to him, he didn’t make a move. That was always a pet peeve of mine. Just don’t run and try to outrun everyone, because they’re pretty fast, too. If you take a little more time and break them down some, you’ll be a lot more open. You don’t necessarily have to catch the ball 65 yards down the field. You can catch it 45 to 50 and run the rest of the way. " Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: MikeO on October 01, 2010, 06:17:17 pm I don't see Hartline with that speed
Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: Pappy13 on October 01, 2010, 06:22:01 pm I don't see Hartline with that speed He's deceptively fast. If you want an example and can see it, go back and watch another catch by Hartline in the 4th quarter I think it is. He's coming back to the ball, catches it, turns and splits 2 DB's and runs right past them. I was like WOW.I found article that said he ran a 4.49 40 at the pro day. That's not bad. Certainly capable of getting deep. Title: Re: Ronnie Brown MIGHT be injured Post by: fyo on October 01, 2010, 06:28:04 pm I was thinking of Hartline. I've heard some of the players comment in interviews on how fast he is in practice. With the awful TV angles shown 90% of the time during games, I have no way of knowing it. He seems fast, but it's really hard to tell. (I want me some all-22 footage!)
