The main fallout of now keeping Sparano is good luck trying to get any decent assistant coaches with any self respect or pride to go to the Fins.

1) You know the owner has a head coach he doesn't really want. So if you go to Miami odds are it will only be for a year as Sparano is a "lame duck". Who is gonna pack up and move their family knowing a year from now you gotta do it again.

2) If you fail you are with a head coach who throws his assistants under the bus and fires them. In 3 years Sparano has gone through more assistants then most coaches go through in 5 or 6 years.

3) Who wants to work for an organization and owner that is a fool and treats people the way he treated Sprano this past week?

If you thought Sparano and his assistants of Lee, Henning, Bomamego, Pasqualoni...etc were bumbling fools before. Those guys MIGHT Look like an all star team compared to the bottom of the barrel guy that will actually accept working for this trainwreck of a franchise and lame duck head coach!

Conversely, a new Offensive Coordinator knows that following the lame duck offense from this season will not be difficult, even if you match what we achieved people will say it must be the head coach, not the OC as two OC will have been unable to get production.

If the offense starts firing, people will see a massive difference (forgetting that's because the bar was set waaaay low this season) and think you're a genius. Then either Tony gets fired anyway and you'll either be working under a new HC because you're the genius who got the offense working despite Sparano OR if Sparano stays it because the team has been successful somewhere.

I see it as a no lose situation for someone. You've always got the backup of the Sparano factor rightly or wrongly taking the blame for a poor season.

The other thing to consider is Sparano wins like 11 or 12 games next year, since he is in the final year of his deal he walks... and.he tells Ross to stick it I'm not staying here.

And Miami is then screwed as their entire coaching staff leaves with Tony coming off a big season.

This is why Ross has screwed this whole thing up! If the team is bad in 2012, the Fins look bad. If the Fins are good the Fins will look worse in 2012 as Sparano will walk.

(unless of course Ross gives Sparano an extension today...which Sprano then comes off looking like a whore for the money and doesn't care how he is treated)

Wasn't receivers coach Karl Dorrell the favorite to take over the OC job before this Harbaugh mess?

Yep! Which means there is a very good chance one of these offensvie coaches that were part of the problem is probably going to get promoted and not much will change.

Key players from Sparano's lockeroom came out against him this week and badmouthed him in the press. His owner tried to replace him. I don't see how Tony comes out looking good

The one way to convince someone of value from the outside to come be an offensive coordinator next year is talk to a Brian Billick type and say come be our offensive coordinator. And by week 5 or 6 if the season is going down the tubes we will promote you and make you our head coach and fire Sparano.

I mean that would be one way to go about this. But who knows what this group in charge is thinking

Well it took you 2 hrs 47 min to disagree with your original post, which was a point I was going to make.  An assistant not hired by Sparano could come in with the hope of a possible future promotion.  Not to mention you need to remember this is a business, and offer the guys enough money and they will come.

this franchise is now a national joke. the outcome is we're going to give a coach we wanted to fire more money and an extension. As a reward for a 1-7 home record and losses to bill browns and lions. And probably beg him to take it bc no one else wants to coach the team!!

I don't like how Sparano has been twisting in the wind but what people fail to forget is that he's pulled the same tactic with his own players. Lets examine...

Matt Roth - That whole issue is still a mystery. Roth probably rubbed Sparano the wrong way.

Donald Thomas - Would not take crap from Sparano.

Justin Smiley - Too outspoken (Thomas and Smiley were the Dolphins best players as far as line play in 2008 - 2009).

Will Allen - The handling of his injury was stupid. He could have came back by game six (but then again, why come back to this mess?)

People who don't totally agree with Sparano end up in his doghouse. I don't know if he will be retained as coach but now, the shoe is on the other foot. Maybe he will see how it feels to be in a position which you can still be canned for no reason.

^ I see your view on those situations a bit skewed at best.....Injuries had alot to do with their departures...

Yes we are a national joke. How some people can't see it or don't understand why this is a big story is beyond me. If Al Davis and the Raiders did this we all would be pointing and laughing and saying, oh those damn Raiders at it again. But now WE (the Dolphins) are the stupid franchise doing the foolish antics like the Raiders have done. Or the Lions, or insert past NFL laughingstocks.

This job for an OC isn't as bad as you make it sound.  Any OC will look like a genious after their first year with us.  We have solid offensive talent and will likey add more, so whoever comes here will look brilliant after a likely quick turn around.

And if you look at the way this thing went down, Ireland is apparently getting a pretty big vote of confidence.  The staff would be reasonably safe, because the GM is reasonably safe.

Solid offensive talent?? What games did you watch?! We have no QB. We have no RB's. Our o-line sucks. Our #1 TE is a #2 or #3 TE on any halfway decent team. Our #1 WR drops a ton of balls.

We have maybe the worst offense in the NFL.

I believe we are talking about assistants, not HC's, there is a big difference.
