Front page of ESPN.com is reporting the news...and based on the 5 minutes I just spent dancing around my office, you can guess how I feel about the news.

They will probably end up drafting Gabbert, too.  I may have to make the 49ers my second favorite team if that happens.

I read someplace that SF has 22 combined picks the next two seasons.

That's amazing. Harbaugh is gonna build the winner he wants with his guys and do so right away

(thats almost as good as New England having 3 of the top 33 picks THIS year)

As is typical with MikeO, "read someplace" translates to "shit I made up"

2011 - own 7, plus SD 4th, Sea 6th, Det 7th

2012 own 7. 

They have 17 over the next 2.  Three extra late round picks this year. 

Oh my god my number was off by a couple. Shoot me.   All you do is follow me around and curse and act like a 5 year old.  Grow up little boy! Your act is tired and played.

I think Harbaugh will be successful because...

* He's a smart, young, energetic coach who understands the "creating the overall gameplan" big picture.
* He inherits a team with a good amount of young offensive talent, from Gore-Davis-Crabtree and lots of talented high draft picks on both lines.
* He has all his draft picks (and 3 extra mid-lates)
* His team resides in the weakest division in the NFL

I think SF will look hard at signing a veteran QB this offseason, someone who can do "an above average" job for them the next two years while they develop the rookie QB they're "99.9% certain" to draft in the first 3 rounds in April.

For my own QB preferences... I want McNabb as the vet, and Kellen Moore to slide into rd 3, so SF can scoop up some of that DB and DL blue-chip yumminess that will abound in the first 2 rounds.

For my "first 2 rounds blue-chip yumminess" preferences... CB Peterson or Amukamara in rd 1, OLB Justin Houston or DE Allen Bailey in rd 2.


In all fairness, and from a purely journalistic perspective...when someone supports a point they're making by using numbers from an unverifiable source (like "I read somewhere," "I heard on sports radio," etc...), and the numbers turn out to be wrong, but exaggerated in the direction that supports the point, that person can become considered less reliable as a source of information to other people.

In your case, while I applaud the optimism you have for my beloved 49ers, the difference between 22 and 17 is 5, not "a couple." Getting pissed off when someone points out an error in your numbers probably won't endear you to other folks either. On a separate, but related note... Hoodie isn't "following you around." He's the moderator of the section you're posting in, so he doesn't need to follow you around, as you're standing in his living room. ;)

Given that 14 picks is the baseline, there's a huge difference between three extra picks and eight extra picks.

The 49ers are welcome to Harbaugh.  I have had my fill of college-to-NFL coaches.  We had one abject failure and we also had the only college-to-NFL coach that was ever worth a damn.

I saw that Jim Leavette is your linebacker coach.  He was the coach of my beloved USF Bulls, and took that program from utter shit to a contender.  Good signing for SF.

^^^ I'm pretty happy with most of the moves Harbaugh has made in building his coaching staff so far, and Leavitt will definitely be a good fit for the LB coach position,,,as long as he doesn't slap Patrick Willis. ;)

I also like the signing of Vic Fangio as our DC and Ed Donatell as our Secondary coach.
