Title: Can you say smoke screen? Post by: Pappy13 on March 10, 2011, 06:33:28 pm http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2011/03/newton-to-conduct-personal-workout-with-cam-newton.html
The Dolphins are gonna hold a private workout for Cam Newton. Does this mean they might take him at #15? No. First off, he won't be there when they pick. Secondly, he won't be there when they pick. Thirdly, even if by some freak of nature he was still there at #15, the Dolphins would rather trade the pick then take Cam. If anything this is to set the stage to try to get some team to move up to #15 to get Cam so that they can get back that 2nd round pick they gave up. I don't see any way in hell that Miami wants to take a flyer on this kid. He's way too risky of a pick for Sparano. I just don't see it happening. Title: Re: Can you say smoke screen? Post by: Brian Fein on March 10, 2011, 07:10:50 pm They have to work him out because they are in the market for a QB and if somehow he falls to 15 they need to make an educated decision about him.
And, if they don't work him out, it tips their hand that they're not interested. This is a formality. I'd rather they work out every player in the draft, than none. Title: Re: Can you say smoke screen? Post by: MikeO on March 10, 2011, 07:14:34 pm They would be stupid not to work him out. You have all this time, why not work out all of the top players. They do this every year. They will work out guys they know who aren't gonna be there when they pick.
Also it gives them something to judge other QB's they work out against. If they know Cam is Top 5 pick and they work out Mallett and Locker and others. THey can see the difference between them all and see if they can stand pat at 15 and get a guy is on on par (in their opinion) with a Top 5 pick. |
