Title: NFLPA & Draft Day Post by: masterfins on March 16, 2011, 03:52:37 pm IMO the NFLPA is being petty by telling the Draftees not to show up for draft day. This is a once in a lifetime event for maybe 15 players AND their families, that can never be made up. This only hurts the fans and the players' families, it does nothing to move the contract along. Holding an "alternate" event down the street is just plain lame. Another stupid move by the NFLPA, I'm moving further into the owner's side.

It's a bit unclear who is saying what to whom... The draftees I've seen/read interviewed so far have said they haven't been told to stay away (or anything like that). The NFLPA is not a *union* anymore, so they cannot represent the players in collective bargaining. They are, however, a trade organization with the stated goal of working for those within that trade (football players). What right does/did the NFLPA have to represent the draftees anyway, have they already agreed to be part of the union on declaring for the draft or is the NFLPA just assuming that as they want to work in the NFL they'll join the union? Considering the union is seriously considering allow caps on rookie salaries, I would say screw them.
