Title: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: bsfins on April 04, 2011, 11:56:57 pm Ok, I know some of us don't follow college football real close, so I'm not going to ask for a name specific player (only if you want)
I would like to know what position would you like to see drafted with that pick,if you want to trade..say trade up or down, and what position... The Dolphins Picks... Round 1, Pick 15 (15) Round 3, Pick 15 (79) Round 4, Pick 14 (111) Round 5, Pick 15 (146) Round 6, Pick 14 (179) Round 7, Pick 14 (217) Round 7, Pick 15 (218) (From Jacksonville) Round 7, Pick 32 (235) (Compensatory Selection) Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Watt or DB Prince Amukamara Round 3 (79) RB Daniel Thomas, OG Danny Watkins, CB Ras-I-Dowling or DE Alan Bailey (depending on who we get in rd 1) Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: bsfins on April 05, 2011, 02:02:03 pm I'm going to preface this by saying, I think the 2011 QB class is closer to the 1999 draft of QB's,while there are alot of hub-bub about them...I don't know if an of them are great. Also most of the guy's projected in the top 10-15,the opinions of how how good they are seem to fluctuate with who you ask.Even though our offense stunk last year, I don't think we can go all offense.I'm not too sure where I'd go in the later rounds....
Round 1, Pick 15 (15)- Trade down just far enough to pick up a 2nd round pick,Pouncy is probably gone, but I'd like the highest rated Interior O-lineman. *Round 2 - Home run threat RB#,Deep threat play making WR#,Or QB* Round 3, Pick 15 (79) - Down the seam threat TE,LB- to push Crowder,or Pass rush guy,CB/Safety# Round 4, Pick 14 (111) - Pounding RB,to possibly go with my home run threat, DT/NT to develop if Soliai regresses or gets injured, Safety Round 5, Pick 15 (146) - Interior O-lineman Round 6, Pick 14 (179) - perhaps sm School QB,RB,or another interior O-lineman #- Possibly help in the return game * - I know our recent history with 2nd round QB's,but don't want any part of the first round guy's either Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: EKnight on April 22, 2011, 01:24:20 pm Round 1: Mike Pouncey. Get the O line set, and qb and rb play will improve. I can't see using a pick this high on a RB (Ingram, for instance) in a draft this deep.
Round 3: Taiwan Jones. Eastern Washington. If you haven't heard of him yet, you will. 6'0" 196 solid. At his pro day, he ran 4.27 in the 40 despite running it on a broken foot. Round it out with more help in the secondary, Oline amd another RB. -EK Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: masterfins on April 25, 2011, 06:08:42 pm Read a Yahoo sports article today about "rogue scout" Dave Razzano and who he was touting. For QB he is big on Jake Locker (thinks he's the next Favre) and dark horse pick of Nevada's Colin Kaepernick. Razzano had a dislike of Blaine Gabbert and Cam Newton.
Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: tubba marxxx on April 25, 2011, 09:53:51 pm I have no idea where players should go, so I apologize if any of the names I list below are stretches at Miami’s pick slots, I’m just going in the order that I feel are the team’s priorities
Round 1, Pick 15 - Interior line help - Mike Pouncey would be ideal here because he can play both center and guard..kinda like Incognito can..and with John Jerry that should solidify the line with Carey and Long at the tackles. Round 3, Pick 15 (79) - Running Back - Ricky and Ronnie both look like they'll be gone so this HAS to be addressed. I like DeMarco Murray at this pick, he may not be an every down back, but hopefully free agency will actually happen and we can take a shot at DeAngelo Williams or Reggie Bush. If not, there's still Cobbs, Hillard, and Sheets who are hungry to get their shot at some more carries. Round 4, Pick 14 (111) – QB – Someone to challenge Henne, because as it’s shown, he does play better when his job is on the line, ie. After he was benched last year. Will Colin Kaepernick be around here? Round 5, Pick 15 (146) - Tight End - Fasano has been a decent TE, but I think it's time to upgrade here and give him a legit compliment, or even a possible successor. I like D.J. Williams here..yes he's a little small for a T.E. but he's got great speed and very reliable hands..someone who can come out a 2 TE set and be a sneaky contributor..Free agent options also include Mercedes Lewis and Zach Miller Round 6, Pick 14 (179) - WR – possibly Cecil Shorts from Mt Union. A shade under 6ft with a 4.5 forty time - Yearly averages were 65 rec 1176 yards 16 TD’s..could be a potential deep threat out of our new “5 WR packages” Round 7, Pick 14 (217) - Free Saftey- to me, FS still remains a bit of a question mark with the Phins and it couldn’t hurt to add some depth there. Not sure about actual players at this point Round 7, Pick 15 (218) (From Jacksonville) - OLB Depth Round 7, Pick 32 (235) (Compensatory Selection) – D-Line Depth Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: Landshark on April 25, 2011, 10:57:07 pm I'd try to trade down to get a second rounder, but if I can't, try to pick up an extra third rounder. Let's assume I can get two third round picks.
Rd. 1- Mike Pouncey if he's available. If not, Ryan Mallet Rd. 3a- Edmund Gates Rd. 3b- Taiwan Jones Both of those players would add speed at the skill positions, something this team is sorely lacking. Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: bsfins on April 26, 2011, 01:11:05 pm I've got the sinking feeling, someone like Gabbert is going to be there, and we don't draft him,or trade down..to take Mark Ingram.
Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: tubba marxxx on April 26, 2011, 07:11:31 pm Upon further review and extra studies, here's my slightly altered and more realistic mock draft
1st round (15) - Mike Pouncey - C/G - Florida 3rd round (79) - Taiwan Jones - RB - Eastern Washington 4th round (111) - Casey Matthews - LB - Oregon 5th Round (146) - D.J. Williams - TE - Arkansas 6th Round (179) - Cecil Shorts - WR - Mount Union 7th Round (217) - Jake Kirkpatrick - C - TCU 7th Round (218) - Chris Prosinski - FS - Wyoming 7th Round (235) - Jerrell Powe - DT - Ole Miss Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: BigDaddyFin on April 28, 2011, 02:36:24 am 1. Mike Pouncey. We need stability of some kind at the position. It's one of the reasons the offense struggles.
Failing that and Mark Ingram isn't available, trade right out of the first round. After that it's a crapshoot. So many things on this team I want to upgrade. Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: MikeO on April 28, 2011, 05:36:59 am As long as we DON'T draft a defensive player or Mark Ingram I will be happy tonight.
Take Pouncey, Mallett, Locker, a TE, WR....anything but a RB or a defensive player and I will be pleased. Title: Re: You're the GM of the Dolphins 2011 draft.... Post by: dolfan13 on April 28, 2011, 11:05:30 am anyone see pouncey snapping shotgun last year for florida? to say terrible would be an understatement.
not sure why anyone thinks pouncey will be a good nfl center. against the bigger nose tackles in the sec, he got absolutely no push off the ball. he is athletic and can pull great. i see him more of a guard in the nfl. i have my reservations about him though. he's not a tough, inside mauler type and is coming out of a more finesse spread option attack. as much as i hate spending yet another high draft pick on a rb, if it really came down to it, i would much rather have ingram over pouncey at #15.
