Title: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: StL FinFan on April 26, 2011, 09:10:43 pm It's going around fb and twitter that Jim Mandich has died. I can't find a single news article. Has anyone heard any official word of this?
Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: MikeO on April 26, 2011, 09:32:50 pm Very sad. He should have been put in the Fins "RING OF HONOR" years ago. Man gave his life to this franchise and he should have been honored when he was alive.
Good man! Glad he is out of pain now and the suffering has stopped for his sake. Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: Dave Gray on April 26, 2011, 09:43:49 pm It is official. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/04/26/2186924/former-dolphins-te-announcer-jim.html
I'm sad that we lost the Mad Dog. He is a great legacy to this organization and what I associate when I think of the radio. Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: MikeO on April 26, 2011, 09:48:09 pm They ought to name the Radio Booth at the stadium after him at the very least! He still belongs in the ring of honor though.
His last interview from April 7th is archived on WQAM and can be heard there Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: Dolphster on April 26, 2011, 09:55:32 pm Typing this with a huge lump in my throat. Jim was not only a Dolphin legend and broadcasting legend, but he was a truly kind and giving person. I was fortunate enough to know him personally and he was always so kind to me. Even after he got sick, he made the effort to send me an autographed picture and autographed Dolphins hat for my "Dolphins Room" in my house. You fought the good fight the same way that you lived your life, sir. With dignity and class, comforting others even when they were trying to comfort you.

Post by: Doc-phin on April 27, 2011, 11:21:09 am Super bummed! He was one of a kind and we loved him for it! He will be greatly missed and I too agree that he should be honored appropriately by the organization for his life long contributions.

Condolences to his family and loved ones. I didn't know that he was that bad off, and I thought he was recovering. It's a shame, such a great radio personality, really enjoyed listening to the games online when he called them. He will be missed. I hope the organization does something classy and fitting for the man. rip. Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: dolfan13 on April 27, 2011, 01:49:59 pm he will truly be missed... was the voice of the dolphin fans, and the passion he had for the dolphins is the essence of why we all follow this team so closely.
the emotions he captured on game days were the best. from "i love you rich camarillo" to "there is a stench of cow manure hovering over this football performance", no one captured what the dolphin fan was feeling any better. rip maddog Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: LesPaul30 on April 27, 2011, 11:00:00 pm As someone who reads many posts on here but is not a very active member - I feel I just need to post on Mandich.
When I heard he had bile duct cancer I knew it was not good- and this day would be coming soon. Recovery from this disease is just not high in probability. Mandich was the essence of all of us on this board- we are die hard dolphin fans- and he was too. I have not lived in south Florida for over ten years now but being born and raised in lauderdale my first exposure to him was when I was much younger asking why my father would never listen to the tv broadcast and wore his headphones at home during the games. It was Mandich. I grew up into the dolphins fan base and learned that this guy was just simply awesome to listen to. Even Phil Hendrie did him on the radio when he was at iod. When I got older and started to appreciate him in the late 90's - his insight was never matched on any radio analysis I cared to listen to. When Qam lost the broadcast rights and he didn't call the games everyone knew it was a mistake- this guy was simply the best. They quickly learned they had to have him on there- we all demanded it. His commentary with Zimpfer back in the day and into the later years with Jimmy was just unmatched in any NFL franchise. I would purposely listen to highlights just to hear his excitement when we did well- it always gave me chills. Hendrie even discussed this one evening on his show years later when he was in LA. Jim Mandich was pure "Dolphins" thru and thru. I am really going to miss this man- his analysis, commentary and calling the games. I knew this day was coming soon and go on the sun-sentinel every day reading about sports from my home town and for the past year have dreaded seeing the headline that I finally saw today. A very sad day indeed. Hyde is right on- get this guys name on the ring of honor and on the stadium. We simply have lost a legend. Even a herald column mentioned after Shula and Marino he's just behind them in hindsight of this organization that is fighting back to the top. It's just such a shame he never saw the team get back to the glory days he once led it to. As I wish Marino saw a ring, I wish Mandich to call a Super Bowl victory for us. Unfortunately life has other plans. RIP Jim. I will miss you greatly Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: Sunstroke on April 27, 2011, 11:01:38 pm ^^^ Well said... Title: Re: Mad Dog passed away? Post by: Dolphster on April 28, 2011, 08:55:49 am Very well said, LesPaul30. You are obviously a solid fan and show a keen insight so I hope you'll post more often. Very nice job of stating what most of us feel about the Mad Dog.
