Title: Rex Ryan throws down the gauntlet and challenges the league to beat the NEP.
Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on August 01, 2011, 04:25:47 pm
Wow this guy is a clown....

Quote

"I think we need to find someone out there to beat New England besides us. I think that would help," Ryan said. "Anybody out there that wants to sign up for it: Are you good enough as a team to beat the New England Patriots? Forget about us, are you good enough to go out there and beat the New England Patriots? I'm challenging the league."

I beg to differ.  At least he's not punching fellow assistant coaches.

oh and Rex did get in a shoving match with Brian Schotienemer after the Week 1 loss to Baltimore last year on Monday Night Football after the game. It was in the lockeroom/office area though and the cameras didn't catch it.

Translation - The Jets can't win enough games on their own to win the division, so they want other teams' help.

^^ LOL.  That's exactly how I interpreted that.

In his next press conference, I expect Rex Ryan to throw down the gauntlet to New England themselves, challenging them to try winning the division without playing so hard all the time.

I'm going to play Devil's advocate here. Rex sure does say some stupid things, but you guys either haven't read/heard his quote or are just trying very hard to find something to bash him about.

Here is the part you are missing and why the bashing is baseless. "I think we need to find someone out there to beat New England besides us. I think that would help,"

^^^ I caught that, and still found the overall quote to be bash-worthy. ;)

Maybe if they hadn't been blown up 45-3 late in the year by the Pats, I'd buy that, but unless the Jets start sweeping NE, then no. Beat them twice in a year, and I can stomach, "Hey- we're doing our part, why isn't anyone else?" Until then, not so much. Besides, the Rams, Giants, Browns, and Bears DID beat them. They're not the second coming.-EK

Not quite sure why Rex/Rob can't keep their mouths shut. They are both a couple of buffoons!!!!!

I am trying to figure out what you possibly could have meant by this statement.

That's alright...I am trying to figure out what part of that statement actually stumped you. Ryan calls for other teams to step up and beat the Patriots. EK listed four teams that actually did beat the Patriots last season. Seems like a reasonable response to me...

Tha Patriots were 14-2 last season.  Lost to the Rams and Giants in preseason - who cares.  The only regular season losses were to the Browns and Jets...

I meant that 4 teams DID beat the Pats. Its not like the almighty Jets are the only ones who did. Rex needs to get off his high horse, his team doesn't walk on water, nor were they the only ones to challenge NE. When you throw out a challenge- "Hey, why doesn't the rest of the league help us out"- it reads as "we're the only ones who can beat NE. What's wrong with everyone else." I was pointing out that his notion is untrue. -EK

You're surprised that I can't figure out how four teams beat a 14-2 squad?

Anyway, the riddle has been solved: EK was counting meaningless preseason exhibition games as "wins."  I guess technically, the Lions weren't winless in 2008... they actually won all four of their preseason games!

P.S. That's an interesting interpretation of the term "last season" you have, there.

^^ Preseason or not, the Pats still beat the Bears like 35-7 or something.
