Title: Manning Highest Paid NFL Player. Gues who is 2nd? Post by: EDGECRUSHER on August 18, 2011, 02:54:03 am Sam Bradford. $400,000 ahead of Tom Brady.
I sided with the players in the labor dispute that just ended, but damn if the rookie salary scale isn't insanely out of whack. Title: Re: Manning Highest Paid NFL Player. Gues who is 2nd? I definitely think that NFL alumni deserve more of a pension, etc. but in the end this was rich people fighting against richer people over what equates to nothing more than entertainment. Don't blame the players for taking what was available. And name one other profession that has a rookie wage scale? Does a top lawyer coming out of Yale or Harvard has his salary capped? Does a top tennage tennis player have his winnings capped? It's un-american! Title: Re: Manning Highest Paid NFL Player. Gues who is 2nd? Bradford had signed a contract before they implemented the rookie wage scale. This is his second season in the league. However, what you just pointed out is the exact reason why the rookie wage scale needed to be invoked. Title: Re: Manning Highest Paid NFL Player. Gues who is 2nd? And yes they do have a salary cap, it is called starting salary and for most professions there is a standard starting salary for everyone new coming in. Title: Re: Manning Highest Paid NFL Player. If a teeny bopper or boy band has a hit song or a couple they make just as much on tour as the top act of its time. Same for actors, if a child actor hits it big they can make just as much as a top actor in their field. It's all the "entertainment" business which professional sports is my friend!! The type of actors and musicians you cited are self-employed people, NFL players are employees, big difference. No child actor starts out making big bucks, they all have a history of doing low paying commercials, etc.

I was specifically referring to your examples of people coming out of college and getting jobs, which would be an apples to apples comparison. |
