Title: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: shamrock on September 02, 2011, 03:01:46 am C.J. got his deal....53.5 million with 30 mil guaranteed........is he worth it?I've seen alot of running backs in my day, including Payton, and while he's surely no Walter Payton,I gotta hand it to him,the guy is scary fast.
And I find myself really liking the way the Titans are playing so far under their new coach.I never cared much for Jeff Fisher(even though he was a former Bear) but I kinda like Mike Munchak and his old school approach, and that kid Jake Locker has impressed me also, even though I know it is just pre-season. Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: Brian Fein on September 02, 2011, 09:20:55 am Worth every penny. The guy is a stud, by far the best RB in the league, and deserves way more than his crappy base salary he was making.
Just don't like the trend of the holdout in general. You'll get paid when its your time to get paid. Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: CF DolFan on September 02, 2011, 09:26:31 am Oddly enough I just found out that he is from here in Orlando. Not a big deal to anyone else but kind of freaks me out. So this is what getting old feels like? >:(

You are like the resident "... is from this area" guy. You must be slipping. Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on September 02, 2011, 02:36:54 pm I knew this would get done before the season officially started. I too think he is worth ever damn penny. Just think Kevin Kolb got 60 mil and hasn't done anything in the NFL.....CJ should have gotten double that!!!!!
Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: bsfins on September 02, 2011, 02:42:27 pm Question, I know it probably wont matter now that he's got this contract.....Didn't he lose an year of...(what's the word) accrued service time by holding out so long?
I don't mean to be Debbie Downer here, but anyone else have the feeling after 3 or 4 average games,he'll blow his Achilles,be out the rest of the year....When he returns he's never quite the same...Isn't that usually how the football god punish when someone holds out like this... :D Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: jtex316 on September 02, 2011, 02:56:07 pm I think this is a horrible mistake by the Titans owner.
CJ will never - EVER - have another 2,000 yard season. He's already been in the league for 3 years and this will be his fourth. Statistically, he's already on the down-slope of his career, as we all know the average RB lasts 3.5 seasons in the NFL. We've seen this with Denver, where an average-talent RB (Terrel Davis) ran behind an amazing offensive line and got 2,000 yards, then got injured and could never recover. They could have plugged in Javon Ringer and had an RB with about 1,000 to 1,200 yards this season. $53.5M with $30M guaranteed is a good example of why the Titans' owner Bud Adams is an old idiot - the same idiot who hired old-ass Matt Hasslebeck and let go of Jeff Fisher and had Pacman Jones and Vince Young and Courtland Finnegan on his roster. Chris Johnson today is a great RB. Next season, or by the middle of this season, he will have fallen, and then the drop is precipitous. Not worth 53 million dollars. Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: Dave Gray on September 02, 2011, 03:03:25 pm I don't think this is worth it.
Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: jtex316 on September 02, 2011, 03:14:00 pm I just think the RB position is a "plug-and-play" spot. There are 50 guys who have enough talent to be a team's starting RB. Long-gone are the days of Barry Sanders and Walter Payton where they would single-handidly carry bad teams on their shoulders - Tennessee should have cut his ass on the spot.
Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: Dave Gray on September 02, 2011, 03:48:42 pm In a world of salary caps, I just don't think that you can put that kind of money into that particular position. I think you can make the guy rich, and I understand that he has to make his money now, but that just seems like an awful lot of cash.
Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: Spider-Dan on September 02, 2011, 04:33:42 pm CJ will never - EVER - have another 2,000 yard season. He's already been in the league for 3 years and this will be his fourth. Statistically, he's already on the down-slope of his career, as we all know the average RB lasts 3.5 seasons in the NFL. You do realize that the "average back" statistic includes people like Cecil Collins, John Avery, and Lex Hilliard, right? Average backs don't reach 2,000 yards at any point in their career. In fact, the average career length for an RB that breaks 2000 rushing yards in a season (at any point in his career) is 9.6 years. I mean, apples to apples, right? Quote We've seen this with Denver, where an average-talent RB (Terrel Davis) ran behind an amazing offensive line and got 2,000 yards, then got injured and could never recover. So does TEN have an amazing offensive line? Are they the running back factory that the turn-of-the-millennium Broncos were? And I don't know that I would call a 4-time Hall of Fame semi-finalist an "average-talent RB," but that's me. Title: Re: Chris Johnson gets $$$ Paid $$$! Post by: shamrock on September 02, 2011, 04:59:21 pm So does TEN have an amazing offensive line? Munchak is a HOF offensive lineman and he has Bruce Mathews coaching his o-line.I have been impressed by their play thus far,but it's only preseason.I predict that C.J. will have a stellar year if he doesn't tweak his hamstring the first time he breaks a long run.Like LilB said, this is usually what happens right after a guy gets paid. |
