Title: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: MaineDolFan on October 28, 2011, 09:26:46 am I realize I am one of three on this board, most likely, watching the World Series. Sad, really, because you're missing out.
Last night was one of the best baseball games I have ever watched in my life. Twice the Rangers were within ONE strike of winning the World Series. TWICE! Cards fought 'em off, took 'em extra frames, forced game 7. I was literally on the edge of my seat from about 11:45 last night until 12:40am when the game ended. Wow. Holy crap, this is an awesome World Series. Simply awesome. Which is why I freaking love this game. Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: Sunstroke on October 28, 2011, 10:04:58 am Last night was insane... When Freese hit that ball in the 9th, I thought for sure that Cruz was going to catch it and the Series was over. Oops...triple! When he came up in the 11th, I was hoping he'd jack one out so we could have a game seven. Done and done... Since it's worked so far... I predict Texas wins game 7 tonight. (you're welcome, StL FinFan) Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: MaineDolFan on October 28, 2011, 11:12:20 am I suspect St. Louis used all of their magic last night...

I love the the game of baseball and this series has been proof as to why baseball is NOT boring. I don't think so, but, that is a discussion for another thread. :) Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: EDGECRUSHER on October 28, 2011, 01:44:05 pm Great game. That triple should've been caught for sure. He was already playing deep and he was just walking back to the wall as opposed to running. Line drives are the hardest type of ball for an outfielder to read and that ball was a laser. Understandable what happened, but people won't be as forgiving if they lose tonight.
Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: Sunstroke on October 28, 2011, 01:51:22 pm As amazing as Nelson Cruz' postseason has been, it would be a shame if that play is the one that folks end up remembering him for. Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: MaineDolFan on October 28, 2011, 02:11:26 pm As amazing as Nelson Cruz' postseason has been, it would be a shame if that play is the one that folks end up remembering him for. Riddle me this: Red Sox, 1986. Mookie Wilson, Bill Buckner. 63 year title draught, however some titles in franchise history. Rangers, 2011. David Freese, Nelson Cruz. 40 year title draught, no franchise titles. Is Nelson Cruz's gaffe last night < or > than Buckner's? Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: Phishfan on October 28, 2011, 03:20:48 pm The thing is, Buckner's gaffe wasn't the only one made that cost Boston runs. Take away a wild pitch and the Mets might not win the game.
Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on October 28, 2011, 03:52:22 pm Make it 4, Maine. I've rediscovered my love for baseball again halfway through this season. :)
Anyways, I think Harold Reynolds made a good point on the MLB Network. On tv the ball looks very catchable. What viewers like us don't realize is that the ball is a bullet off the bat. I think had he made the catch he would have been introduced to Mr. Wall and given up an even bigger play. Freese is a BEAST! <sigh> If only the Giants had a little of that. BTW, to answer your question - I think Buckner's gaffe is still bigger. A grounder that requires just a bit of side stepping is something most of us would be able to field. A flyer requiring an awesome break on the ball AND your blindside towards the wall while in a full sprint is something that can be argued as much more difficult. Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: mecadonzilla on October 28, 2011, 04:17:42 pm Ugh. I'm dying after last night. This series is giving me way too many grey hairs. I'm glad tonight is the last game because I can't take the pressure anymore. I've never seen an entire bullpen pull a Mark Wohlers.

Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on October 28, 2011, 07:37:45 pm Add me to the list of people who have watched the entire series.....last nights game was epic no doubt. Probably one of the best I have ever seen. I thought for sure it was signed sealed and delivered when Hamilton hit the 2 run shot. The Cards score in the 8th, 9th, & 10th to stay alive and then win it in walk off fashion with a monster HR to straight away center field in the 11th. Awesome game on two teams I can't find a reason to dislike. I am secretly pulling for Texas as they have never won but no matter who wins this series will go down as one of the best. Amazing series I am glad to be watching.
Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: StL FinFan on October 28, 2011, 07:45:43 pm I don't know why I want my teams to make the playoffs. I can't take the pressure! Whatever happens tonight, I am proud to be a Cardinals fan. They came from 10 1/2 games out of the playoffs and took down the heavily favored Phillies and those punk ass Brewers. My fervent wish was for someone to take down the Brewers and having the Cardinals end their season was the icing on the cake. PS - The Dolphins could learn a lot from the Cardinals on how to finish a game. Go Cards! :)

(they will lose, though--being a Lolphin fan has taught me to root for underdogs and doomed franchises) Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: StL FinFan on October 28, 2011, 11:28:29 pm WE WON WE WON!!!! EVERYONE IS OUT IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD SHOOTING OFF FIREWORKS AND BANDING POTS AND PANS! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! 11 IN 11!!!!

Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: EDGECRUSHER on October 29, 2011, 06:21:44 pm I don't think Nelson's gaffe will be remembered more. In all honesty, I haven't even seen any mainstream press on it, just those hardcore baseball fans talking about it.
Unfortunately for them, the Texas Rangers are now the 2nd team of all-time to be within 1 strike of the championship and not win it. The other is obviously the 1986 Red Sox. Title: Re: Game 6 gave me heartburn (World Series) Post by: Sunstroke on October 29, 2011, 06:26:36 pm I got my "Thank You" card from LaRussa today for picking against St. Louis every round of the playoffs. I have to admit I am a little disappointed that it wasn't accompanied by a case of Budweiser or something. ;) Congrat's StL... Your Redbirds are the champs!
