Title: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Dave Gray on November 02, 2011, 11:39:36 am Hey EKnight,
I didn't want to sidetrack the other thread, but I saw you say that you were a powerlifter at one point and could lift some ungodly amount of weight, while you, yourself weren't heavy. Tell me more about that. What got you into it? Do you still do it? Do you have a picture of yourself around that time? Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 02, 2011, 12:16:32 pm Hey thanks for asking. Most of what you're asking about including pics is on my personal training page but since I am not sure if I am allowed to link it, I cut and pasted some of the info. At the age of twenty-three, I started weight training, and began competing as a bodybuilder two years later. I chose to pursue competitive powerlifting instead, so that I could balance my passion for lifting fitness with my goal to remain drug-free. Simply put, too few bodybuilding federations drug test for there to be a level playing field. In 2002, I won my first national bench press title, competing in the USAPL 132 pound class. I continued competing for another 8 years, including two more APF/AAPF national titles in 2005 and 2006, benching a personal best 420 pounds at a body weight of 143 pounds. I have a couple of pics from magazines I appeared in but I'd have to scan them to get them here. Honestly, they're not much to look at, but of you really want to see them I'll scan and post them. -EK

I'm in the 500lb squat club and I thought that act would be the end of me. And I was probably around 229 at the time. 423. Bench. At 143? Again...holy.freaking.crap. Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 02, 2011, 01:45:59 pm Nah only 420. Don't give me three pounds I didn't earn, lol. I just missed 430 at that same meet. Locked it out, but raised my butt. And bro, a 500+ pound squat is insane. That's impressive. -EK
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Dave Gray on November 02, 2011, 02:23:15 pm Yeah, I'd like to see a pic. I'm a small guy, 5'10 - 145ish. I can't imagine being able to lift anything near that....I'd have trouble benching 1/4 of that.
You must've been built, obviously. How tall are you? Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 02, 2011, 02:41:28 pm I'm all of 5'3". I can't figure out for the world of me how to attach a pic without it being from a website. How do I do that? -EK
Edit- Here's a link that has two pics on it. If this in violation of some rule, I apologize, mods, and you can remove it. -EK http://www.ericknightfitness.com/about Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: masterfins on November 02, 2011, 05:16:38 pm ^^^Hey what's #1 of the 3 must have supplements?

Besides, you can link anything you want, so long as its on topic and proper credit is given. Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 02, 2011, 06:27:48 pm Thanks bro. I appreciate that.
The number one supplement? WOW....clearly school this term has put the site on the backburner....I'll update that this weekend, likely, but here's a hint- you probably already take it, and it has 12 letters! -EK Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Dave Gray on November 02, 2011, 06:49:58 pm Holy crap, you are jacked. How much of that remained after you stopped being competitive?
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 02, 2011, 07:19:21 pm I'm a lot bigger in the shoulders, arms, chest, and thihgs now. The waist is about the same, but in that pic I was around 130 pounds. Now I'm ~170. -EK
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: MaineDolFan on November 03, 2011, 02:44:04 pm And bro, a 500+ pound squat is insane. That's impressive. -EK It ain't no 420 at 143! ;) You know it, I know it...the board knows it! Thanks, though! I'm with Dave, hate to put you on the spot but would love to see pictures of you. FYI, I can't imagine maxing out like that in perfect form! I probably would have kicked my legs up and tried to help move the bar with my legs! :) Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: MaineDolFan on November 03, 2011, 02:45:41 pm Jesus, sorry, just saw the link now.
Well done, EK -- super Kudos. I don't know if anyone who hasn't put in that type of work will ever understand what goes into it (diet, training, rest, etc). Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Phishfan on November 03, 2011, 03:21:41 pm I don't know if anyone who hasn't put in that type of work will ever understand what goes into it (diet, training, rest, etc). I understand completely. That is why I haven't put in that kind of work. When I graduated high school and ended my wrestling career I swore off what I considered extreme dieting. I may have gone too far the other way now. >:( Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 03, 2011, 03:24:06 pm Jesus, sorry, just saw the link now. Well done, EK -- super Kudos. I don't know if anyone who hasn't put in that type of work will ever understand what goes into it (diet, training, rest, etc). I appreciate that a lot. It was an steep investment- I spent most of my post-high school years training and eating while my friends were partying. I also busted my ass in the gym, which is why I got a little testy in the other thread when Spider-Dan said I had no idea about being an athlete or something. -EK Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: CF DolFan on November 03, 2011, 03:40:50 pm God bless you brother. I never had the discipline to cut like that. I've worked out with some pretty cut guys but never to that extent. At 145 you are more than a beast!!
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 03, 2011, 04:05:26 pm We all have our gifts. Honestly, physique is not one of mine. I was always the smallest cat of all the dudes I trained with. I honestly believe that hard work will beat talent. I'm also a cheeseball when it comes to quotes and competition and stuff, and I heard Larry Bird once say, "You don't go out to play- you go to win. If all you're doing is just playing, you've already lost." That kinda stuck with me, motivated me. -EK
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Phishfan on November 03, 2011, 04:20:10 pm I also heard he walked into the locker room for the three point shootout once and asked the group who was trying for second. I always loved to use that line.
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: EKnight on November 03, 2011, 04:27:08 pm Bird was the epitome of work ethic. First one to practice, last one to leave, superstar who didn't have to take the hard charge or dive for the loose ball, but always did. Definition of leader. -EK
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Dave Gray on November 03, 2011, 04:43:15 pm Bird was my favorite player. I read his book way back when. He used to practice until the shot "felt" right. He not only had to make sure that the shot went in, but he had to know it was going in by the way it felt. Then he would go home.
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: BigDaddyFin on November 03, 2011, 07:26:19 pm most acceptable numbers my man. Mine never got above 315/625 but congrats to you on moving the iron.
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Tenshot13 on November 04, 2011, 06:04:27 pm For some reason I always thought you were black. Anywho much respect man!
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on November 04, 2011, 06:30:19 pm ^^^LOL that is very random. Just out of curiosity what gave you that impression?
Title: Re: EKnight - Powerlifting Post by: Tenshot13 on November 04, 2011, 07:35:46 pm There is a guy named something like EDiggy on another site I'm on and he's black. Guess my thought process carried over.
