This could be year that two unprecedented records fall:

1. Dan Marino's passing yards in a season record.
2. The Packers go undefeated (and yes 19-0 is greater than 17-0).

This could finally be the year where Dolphin nostalgia dies, which would be the best thing to ever happen to that franchise.

Then I guess we have to wait for Bill Belichick to surpass Don Shula's all-time coaching wins record after that.

I'm willing to bet neither of those things happen.

Doesn't Brees need to average something like 200 yards a game to break the record and isn't Brady just behind him? I have no doubt Marino's record falls. 19-0, I don't see happening.

Why is this in the anti-fins section?  I'm pretty sure that Dan would congratulate the guy that surpasses his 25 year old record and you know what, I honestly think the 17-0 guys would tip their hats to someone that went 19-0. Maybe not Mercury Morris, but he's kind of an ass anyway. LOL

This is jtex's favorite shit stirring section and that was what this thread was created for.

Yes, Brady is just behind him.  3689 vs 3627.  Both have 5 game to go.  Marino's record is 5,084.  Brees would have to avg. 279, Brady 291.  To date Brees is avg 335.4 and Brady avg is 329.7.  So it is quite possible either could break the record.  A lot could depend on if either is rested week 17. 

I don't remember the correct number, but wasn't Brees about to do this during their Superbowl run and was just shy by about 20 yards?

I think Marino's record is toast.  New Orleans is built to pass.  The attempts are so much higher, that I think it's inevitable.

Actually it was shy by 15 yards.  But it was in 2008 Saints went 8-8 that year.  And he wasn't ever ahead of the pace to the margin both of them are this year. 

The biggest thing Brady and Brees have going for them is that their respective defenses are shitty.

One thing that'll be interesting is what the weather will be like. The Pats play outdoors in all of their remaining games, in cold weather cities to boot. The Saints, on the other hand, play indoors in 4 of their 5 games (with the remaining at LP Field, Nashville, TN).

With what might be the best cold weather QB I can remember in my lifetime.

Anyways, yeah, the records will fall.  The Packers are scary good, and the NFL is set up for great QB's to excel.

Lots of people like some home teams, but not others.  I don't know why Jtex likes the Heat.  Maybe because they were an expansion team.  I am guilty, too.  I like most S. Florida teams, but I hate the Hurricanes.  I have no real reason to.

Dolphins Nostalgia will never die, nor should it.  Just like Patriot Nostalgia for Bill Belichick will one day come in, or 49er Nostalgia for Bill Walsh and the Not West Coast Offense.  It will just not be singularly exceptional. 

I grew up less than 150 miles from SF, and I had to live with both 49er and Raider fans. I was the only Dolphins fan and it REALLY sucked when they lost to SF in the SB. But I do not feel the need to become part of either a 49er or Raider forum just to talk crap about the teams because I was stuck living around the hometown fans. He is just an angry, angry little troll with serious issues and is using Dolphin history as an excuse to vent his frustrations.

Jtex is on this forum because he's a personal friend of mine, that I've known for more than 15 years.

Fine, but the point is still the same. Over the last few years the only person on this board bringing up the "perfect season" is the guy who hates the Dolphins the most.
It is beyond tiring to constantly see him attacking the team, just because he is angry he is not in Giants land.
If one of my friends started a site dedicated to their favorite team, I would not join just to talk crap and troll the very people my friend is trying to get to come to his site.

I actually love jtex. Many times he's like that clown in the dunk tank at the fair. He just throws crap out there to people and they waste valuable time and energy reacting to him. As if getting him wet will prove anything.  There are certainly many that don't get the joke ... and that only makes it funnier.

Why wouldn't we want Jtex?  Let him rant.  I do it he might as well.

Can an undefeated record fall?  To me, it can only be equaled.  The Dolphins will always have been the first team to go undefeated no matter what.

I say this.  The 72/73 teams won 32 of their 34 games.  The season's longer now so if they can put together a two year run where they win 35 out of 38, I'd say that would be more impressive.

Dolphins nostalgia will never die, JTex.  People still remember the Chuck Noll Steelers, the Vince Lombardi Packers.  The Dolphins may lose the moniker of "best team ever" to the Packers, but that doesn't diminish them.  Marino losing another record doesn't diminish him either.  THe record's held for almost 30 years, which is extremely impressive in this day and age.

I don't think that many consider the 72' team to be the best ever.  ...maybe the most accomplished, but I hear most people say that the 85' Bears would beat them.

Which is really a bad argument considering they couldn't even beat the 85 Dolphins!  ;) ;D

The whole undefeated thing is kinda tainted ever since the switch to a 16 game schedules


Example:  Let's hypothetically the Packers complete a perfect season


Argument for decades to come:  "The Packers are more impressive for doing it with more games on the schedule"  v.s. " The Dolphins were the first team to do it" 


I really don't care either way, I was born in the mid-80's so I'm not going to lose sleep over another team going undefeated..just saying that the argument is probably never going to die.

Would love to hear some opinions on this: Four QB's are on pace to break the passing yards record or come within a few yards (Brees, on pace for 5376; Brady, 5269; Rodgers 5077; Manning 5052). Does that diminish it if/when one or more of them breaks it? This is obviously a league much more geared to QB play than in '84. Just my opinion, but it seems to somehow "cheapen" the record a little if 3 or 4 guys eclipse it. -EK

If multiple players break the record this season, it just underscores how much the league has changed in the past 25+ years. I don't know that it cheapens the record as such, it's just that the goal posts have moved.

I think this has a lot more to do with it. If Marino were to have played in this era where you can't breathe on a receiver without getting a flag called, you can't sneeze on a QB, or hit a receiver too hard I think he very well might have thrown for 6,000 yards.
