Title: Anyone else worried?
Post by: suck for luck on January 03, 2012, 01:05:12 pm
The future looked so bright at 0-7. Now I don't know what to think. It seems like we're in the perfect position to continue to be mediocre.

Is there any hope to cling to or should I just hope that Mayan calander crap is legit?

The future looked bright at 0-7? But finishing 5-3 it looks worse??? How's that work? Even at 0-7 we were not a lock to get the top pick. Truth be told, I'm still not sold that Luck is worth what people are crediting him with. Every analyst I've heard has said the same thing- crapshoot, 50/50 at best. For every Manning, there's a Leaf. QB may be the biggest need for an upgrade (debatable), but it's certainly not the only need. I would take upgrades at three or four other positions and a quality "game manager" type (Alex Smith type for example) over throwing the whole draft and future at one QB who's never taken an NFL snap. -EK

What was it you did last night instead of watching the game?

I don't understand what that means. If you're implying that because he looked great in his Bowl Game and that makes him a "sure thing," I disagree. There are NO sure things. I think Luck has the potential to be very good- great even- I just wouldn't ever, under any circumstance bank my whole franchise on one player out of college. It never works out. He can't possibly live up to the hype he is getting. Unless his jersey splits open and God himslef pops out, he can't live up to his billing. -EK

The 50/50 crapshoot thing is a little hard to believe unless they're just throwing that in there to cover their ass. Everyone knows there is no 'sure thing'.

I can relate to the resistance to the hype. I still haven't seen Titanic. I started this thread hoping some peeps could convince me things aren't as bleak as they seem. Not to rehash the Luck thing.

I'm probably more worried about the coach now than I am QB. None of the top guys want the job? Interviewing obscure coordinators? Oh God, why have ye foresaken us?

After starting 0-7 the fins played hard and didn't lay down and that's a bit of a silver lining.

Finishing with 5-3, first time we've ever had 1000 yard rusher and receiver in the same year, defense played better in the second half- all of those things are positive takeaways from this year. I'd rather have our season and finish 6-10 than have the Colts 2-14 with their hopes riding on a broken Manning and/or Luck, but that's just me. I'm sure there will be people who disagree with that if for no other reason than it was me who said it. -EK

John Elway was traded for two 1sts and a backup QB (who was originally drafted in the 4th round).  He went on to lead the Broncos to 5 AFC Championships and 2 Super Bowl titles, including a Super Bowl MVP.
Eli Manning was traded for two 1sts and a 3rd.  He went on to win the Super Bowl, including a Super Bowl MVP.

You should clarify the definition of both "banking the whole franchise" and "working out."  I'd say that two 1sts and a 3rd worked out quite well for NYG.  Is three 1sts and a 3rd too much?  Three 1sts and a 2nd?

Miami beat 1 team that was AT or OVER .500 all year and that came Week 17 vs the Jets on Sunday who were 8-8. I don't get too carried away with the "finish of the season" they had because they beat up a bunch of garbage teams. With that said.........All hope isn't lost, because in this league if you have a QB you become a contender overnight. Look at Cincy for christ sakes. Just find a QB and Miami will be in the thick of the playoff hunt. It's really that easy.

When you have a QB, everything else falls into place a whole lot easier. With a quality QB you can hide weaknesses at other areas.

This is the best question...  I'm most concerned about this...
