Title: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: bsfins on March 07, 2012, 12:38:06 am Since Dave asked for a new version...First a quick recap
In 2010 TDMMC said....(newest to oldest) -4- World of Warcraft was...Seriously un-cool Quote Seriously- Uncool 6 (50%) Un-Cool 3 (25%) Cool 2 (16.7%) Pretty Cool 0 (0%) Super Cool 1 (8.3%) -3-Wearing your Baseball cap back wards...was un-cool Quote Seriously un-cool 4 (25%) Un Cool 6 (37.5%) Cool 4 (25%) Pretty Cool 0 (0%) Super Cool 2 (12.5%) -2- Comic Books are Cool Quote Seriously Un-Cool 1 (11.1%) Un-Cool 2 (22.2%) Cool 3 (33.3%) Pretty Cool 1 (11.1%) Super Cool 2 (22.2%) -1- Hybrid cars were err Un-cool * Quote Seriously Un-Cool 3 (21.4%) Voting on those are locked...Un-Cool 4 (28.6%) Cool 2 (14.3%) Pretty Cool 4 (28.6%) Super Cool 1 (7.1%) *The Voting on the Hybrid electric car are Pretty cool, and Un Cool tied with 4 votes,Seriously uncool has 3 votes...(Cool 2, Super cool 1). I feel like the tie breaker (because it happens to work out here) Who had more Super cool votes,or Seriously un cool votes....So that makes the Hybrid Electric Car.....UN- COOL Let's start off cool wall with a good one... So now in 2012 Is facebook Cool? It used to be sort of exclusive, being attached to the college you went too. Then it opened up to everyone, then the media use it,stores use it,games are played on it.It's had it's problem with security,Info it collected,etc,etc...Has it become so mainstream it's no longer cool? How do you vote, and why? Voting open for 30 days...Answer can be changed during that time. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: bsmooth on March 07, 2012, 01:01:39 am I do not think it is cool anymore, especially with all the recent changes and Zuckerberg's belief there is no such thing a personal privacy.
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Brian Fein on March 07, 2012, 02:29:49 am I agree with this ^^
I think Facebook ruined itself when it started (a) becoming an advertising tool for targeted marketing and (b) decided that its going to disperse your pics and info to everyone in the world. I understand that its optional and you choose what you post, to a point. But if someone else posts a photo of me that I'd rather not share (like Flo did, jeez) then I have no way to remove it other than to untag myself? Seriously lame. I rarely use Facebook anymore, and I'm not really missing it. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Phishfan on March 07, 2012, 10:06:26 am Uncool. I never signed up for facebook. I use to have people I would see 3-4 times a week ask me, "Are we facebook friends?" I would always answer that we were real life friends. I could see the usefulness of catching up with people from your past, but let's be honest. We lost touch with those people for a reason didn't we?
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Thundergod on March 07, 2012, 10:48:44 am Yeah I have no problem with fb. I have my uses for it. It's ok by me.
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Dave Gray on March 07, 2012, 11:19:19 am I think that Facebook is becoming uncool...not because it is popular, but because it now connects with every other program under the sun to where it's so bloated that it's hard to use.
I really like playing Family Feud on my phone. But I resent that I get notifications through Facebook on it. I don't like to have to "like" things to unlock their content. It pisses me off that I'm asked to "like" an article I haven't even read yet, in order to read it. Facebook needs to clamp down on how free the platform is. What made Facebook so great to begin with, unlike Myspace, is that it really limited what you can do. Facebook is a great tool to keep people connected easily. But it's way out of control. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: bsfins on March 07, 2012, 12:42:39 pm This just in:I have/had a facebook account,I was on twice in about a 1 week period....I signed up for an account, didn't really add anything, checked someone out for work. Then about a week later,I cyberstalked someones page...
That was about it.I just didn't see the point in it.I also love the people that claim how great facebook is, but yet constantly complain about it.Complain about people un friending them,etc,etc...I try to live a simple life, I don't need those B.S. complications... To Phish's point (which is sooo true to me).I'm not hard to get a hold of,I'm at home most of the time.I don't need to reconnect with a bunch of people, that aren't in my life anymore...there is a reason why they're gone... Dave's point is true also,It bothers me, I have to have a facebook account to comment on a story on my local paper website, and most of the local T.V. stations websites. Modified to add...I absolutely LOVE,Love,love..Twitter...I'm thankful I joined Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Dave Gray on March 07, 2012, 12:55:54 pm The positive of Facebook isn't necessarily re-connecting. It's just connecting.
I have a Facebook group for my various kickball leagues. It's how we set up invites, find out who's going to games, and organize. The same for parties. It's a way to keep your finger on the pulse of your friends, but still be arm length. It's also a nice way to keep tabs on those that you're acquainted with...without having to have the grapevine. It's helpful as a general social tool to keep you in the loop. It doesn't replace genuine friendships, but helps keep it all together. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Buddhagirl on March 07, 2012, 01:12:03 pm I only use FB for social reasons. I log in here and there to see what's up, but for the most part stay away. It's just overrun with baby pictures, cheesy memes, and bullshit. Also, I feel I have to be "nice" on FB.
Twitter is where it's at. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Pappy13 on March 07, 2012, 01:18:42 pm Since Dave asked for a new version...First a quick recap Wait a minute, ya'll voted WoW seriously un-cool in 2010? What? I'm gonna have to go dig up this thread and check out the comments on that one. Ya'll are getting a downvote from me on that one.In 2010 TDMMC said....(newest to oldest) -4- World of Warcraft was...Seriously un-cool -3-Wearing your Baseball cap back wards...was un-cool -2- Comic Books are Cool -1- Hybrid cars were err Un-cool FB is cool. Was very cool back when my kids were in college so that I could keep up with what was going on with their lives, but now that they are all out of school, I don't use it much. Was very cool back when my kids were in college so that I could keep up with what was going on with their lives, but now that they are all out of school, I don't use it much. I would have to change that now since I'm an undercover WoW player now. Shhhhh.... Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: bsfins on March 07, 2012, 02:05:02 pm Lol...I made sure and locked all the voting on those old threads, before starting this one....No contaminating what we felt back then....
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on March 07, 2012, 02:39:03 pm I like Facebook and I use it daily. Yeah there are some shitty things about it but for the most part I find it useful. I was a fan of MySpace for quite awhile but I don't think I have logged on to that in a really long time as I found Facebook to be a much better program. I also have it on my phone so I use it mostly from there. I am just getting into Twitter and I don't know a lot of people on there so I find it to only be useful to keep me up on the latest sports news.

I demand a recount! (j/k) :)I actually went back and checked the old WoW thread and it looks like it had some support as being cool too and with Buddha changing her vote....I'll let it slide. I don't want to derail this thread anymore than I already have. What made Facebook so great to begin with, unlike Myspace, is that it really limited what you can do. Facebook is a great tool to keep people connected easily. But it's way out of control. I hate the new timeline thing. It makes loading pages longer and too cluttered. It is now like Myspace without all the gaudy, sparkly pages. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Dave Gray on March 08, 2012, 12:14:41 pm ^ That's my concern.
Watch the Social Network. What made Facebook great was exclusivity, no (or at the very least, extremely limited and targeted) advertising, and a clean, uniform look. 1) Exclusivity - completely gone. To be clear, I'm not suggesting that only college students should get a Facebook page. But when people have multiple profiles, profiles for their cat, profiles for their young children, or personal profiles for their business, it's too much and clutters the space. 2) Advertising - dead. It's not even Facebook driven ads that bother me, it's that everything is tied to coaxing you into "liking" something in order to deliver content. Since I play Family Fued, it's going to post all of my stupid crap to everyone else's page, in a constant reminder for them to play too. It's horrible. 3) Uniform look - Timelines are killing some of this, but it goes to advertising, too. Too many groups, too much going on, too much sparkle and bling. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Thundergod on March 08, 2012, 02:25:12 pm Agreed on the timeline crap. It's cluttered, unorganized and myspac'y'. Hearing that all profiles will default to it soon. Man that'll suck if it's true. Bleh
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Buddhagirl on March 08, 2012, 04:18:06 pm I can't figure out where anything is in Timeline. It SUCKS.
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Brian Fein on March 08, 2012, 10:08:59 pm I don't even know what you're talking about. What's a Timeline?
Dave, I have seen a page someone made a profile for their unborn baby. The sonogram was the profile picture. The mom would post stuff there regularly, speaking from the baby's point of view. Stuff like "I can't wait to be born, it sounds like fun out there" and "Too bad my dad is such a deadbeat" Just weird. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Dave Gray on March 13, 2012, 12:09:28 pm So, I've been re-tooling Facebook to try to make it useable.
(I think) I've managed to stop others from posting to my wall, creating awkward situations where sensitive information gets on the wrong eyes that complicates my life. ...not big deal stuff, but if I have a party and someone writes on my wall to thank me, I don't want everyone else that I didn't invite seeing it, for example. I've also (one by one) been changing which posts I want to see from people I know. Unless I find them particularly interesting, I'm unsubscribing (though not un-friending) those that I don't know personally on a regular basis. Those that I am very close with (like my wife), I changed to show every update. And people that I know, but aren't really close with, I'm showing only "important updates". At least now, the homepage isn't just a random smattering of useless info. We'll see how that goes. I'm also pairing down the things I "Like" (in terms of businesses and clubs) to only things that I'm interested in updates about. I like Taco Bell, but I don't want to see their advertising about new tacos. However, I want to get updates from certain musicians, so I don't miss out on concerts. Which brings me to this: Do you guys care about TDMMC on Facebook? I try to put little info here and there, but most of the responses are from names that I don't recognize. How do you feel about it? Do you use it? Ignore it? Do you even "like it"? Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: bsfins on March 13, 2012, 12:44:43 pm I saw this morning....I'm not on facebook, but Dave could something like this help you? (or other people that don't like the changes)
http://lifehacker.com/5892826/how-to-make-facebook-infinitely-better-with-one-browser-extension (http://lifehacker.com/5892826/how-to-make-facebook-infinitely-better-with-one-browser-extension) Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Phishfan on March 13, 2012, 12:46:28 pm This is a perfect example of why I think Facebook is uncool. Why would you need to get every facebook update from your wife? You speak with her daily, you sleep with her nightly. Why would even need Facebook to keep up with her life? I just hate the idea.
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Pappy13 on March 13, 2012, 01:43:24 pm I see the updates, but don't comment on them on Facebook, rather I come to the forums to discuss them if I'm interested. So yes, I do like that I seeing those updates on Facebook, but no I don't really use Facebook to respond to them.
Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Dave Gray on March 13, 2012, 02:01:17 pm This is a perfect example of why I think Facebook is uncool. Facebook updates aren't necessarily what you're doing. In fact, I'd argue that good Facebookers don't do that. But, people post interesting links. I want to see my wife's links and interests that she runs across during the day. Title: Re: 2012 - Cool Wall - 5 - Facebook Post by: Phishfan on March 13, 2012, 02:16:29 pm That makes some sense then. Not using the tool, I had something else in mind.
