TDMMC on to the latest cool wall...The second of 2012,Talent Show reality shows....American Idol,Dancing with the Stars,the Voice,America's got talent,So you think you can dance...Are these type of shows still Cool?

I'm mixed on this so I really don't know how to vote. I watch America's Got Talent because I like the concept of different types of acts competing. I don't watch any of the others.

I might have to move to cool wall 7 quicker than expected,one day it's looking like a landslide... :D

I watch that, the Voice although I'm not really digging the second season as much and So You Think You Can Dance. I absolutly love SYTYCD ... which even has me questioning my man card.

OK, so, American Idol sucks.  The Voice is moderately entertaining although I don't watch it.  But America's Got Talent is very good.  However, I think with Howard Stern it will have jumped the shark this season.

I watch The Voice occasionally, but still voted for "seriously un-cool." I guess that's just me recognizing a little part of me inside that is seriously un-cool as well. ;D

I have to wonder. I'm no longer a Stern fan but I do think he is smart enough to pull it off. He won't be the Howard Stern of the radio but I'm sure he will bring an edge.

I also wonder if he becomes the antagonist to Howie as Howie was to Pierce? Stern likes pushing buttons too and Howie's germ fears opens itself wide up to being picked on.

I'm not sure what role Howard Stern will play but I think he will be over the top shocking - like Simon from American Idol, but just downright rude.  I feel like they brought him in because Piers wanted out, and they needed another dickish personality on the panel.  I somehow feel like Stern won't like any act that doesn't feature women shaking their boobs on stage.

I completely disagree.

Stern is going to be very valuable to the show.  He's very good at giving an honest assessment and I don't think he's going to make it about himself.  If you ever listen to his show, he's not a dick -- he's really not.  He plays the role of the good guy and the rest of the panel are the jerks.  He's like your friend who's breaking you the bad news.  ...at least that's how he frames it.

I said a while back that I think Stern would've been great on American Idol.

Shouldn't there be more votes for cool or pretty cool? (middle of the road, maybe)  I'm noticing a lot who watch some or a few talent reality shows but not all, so how are there so many votes for seriously uncool?

You'd have to pay my ass to watch karaoke, or talent shows on TV. Seriously uncool.

I watch some of these, but I don't think they're cool.

I think that the singing or general talent ones are especially uncool.  However, I do like specialized one.  I think that some of the cooking shows or the special effects makeup ones are great.  ...cool though?  No.

Dave nailed the ones I really like...Face off,and used to like some of the cake build off ones...Singing, dancing,cupcake,model shows.. I hate

I guess we can consider these shows a guilty pleasure. We may pick up on one or two of them but we still don't consider it cool. Kind of the like moped and fat chick line.

What makes these shows great is their bite-sized appeal.  You can have never seen an episode of Top Chef or Face Off and turn on the 5th episode of the season and understand right where you are and still enjoy it.  It's an easy watch.  When I have a hard day at work or it's late and I don't feel like paying full attention, I can put on one of these shows while I browse the web.
