Title: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Doc-phin on April 17, 2012, 12:04:10 pm In memory of the Ted Ginn pick, give me an example of a scenerio you could see yourself shouting WTF?!!! (abbreviated obviously) at the TV in the first or second round this year.
A couple of examples for me... Tannehill is still on the board and we take Cousins at number 8. Micheal Floyd or Kendall Wright at number 8. Richardson at number 8. Any guard, DT, or TE at number 8. Any corner not named Claiborn at number 8. This is what I have a feeling will actually happen - Tannehill makes it to 8 and we take a right tackle. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Dave Gray on April 17, 2012, 12:56:18 pm Funny story, with credit to Sunstroke...
So, we're watching the draft a few years ago together, and, admittedly, I don't know much about college players. I listen to the talking heads. I only get upset with picks when they are blatantly not needed positions (like Jamar Fletcher, when we had 2 pro bowl corners -- my biggest WTF draft moment ever), but never based on talent evaluation. Anyway, we're all talking about Brady Quinn and whether or not we will get a chance to take him. Then, Stroke says, I don't care who we take, as long as it's not Ted Ginn. ...at the time, everyone thought he was a dummy, since Ginn wasn't projected to go for a long time, so it seemed out of the blue. Then we picked Ted Ginn. I thought Stroke was going to pass out. ---- This year, I have almost no expectations. There are no WTF picks for me. With so many new pieces in place (not just personnel, but also a cloud around the direction of the team), I have no idea what anyone is thinking. It's almost refreshing. It's hard to be disappointed when you have no idea what's going on. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: EKnight on April 17, 2012, 01:03:37 pm My WTF moment is going to be if/when Miami trades away multiple picks to move up and draft Tannehill at #3, effectively crippling the franchise further. -EK
Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: bsfins on April 17, 2012, 01:14:06 pm ^^^ That nails mine,Trading up for Tannehill....Maybe taking a guy, that I have to go google because I've not seen his name mocked to anyone in the first round...
Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Brian Fein on April 17, 2012, 01:33:53 pm If Tannehill is there at 8, and the Dolphins pass on him, I will clap loudly. I will not be upset.
Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Sunstroke on April 17, 2012, 01:35:43 pm Then we picked Ted Ginn. I thought Stroke was going to pass out. I still remember that draft, and yeah...I did almost pass out. In memory of the Ted Ginn pick, give me an example of a scenerio you could see yourself shouting WTF?!!! (abbreviated obviously) at the TV in the first or second round this year. A couple of examples for me... ... Richardson at number 8. Any guard, DT, or TE at number 8. I have to disagree with these two... If Miami selects OG David DeCastro at #8, I will celebrate Miami getting the next "greatest OG in the NFL." If Miami decides that Daniel Thomas has no future with the new coaching staff and Richardson is available at #8 (he won't be, but whatever), then I hope Miami is smart enough to take him there. So you would be ok with taking a running back at #8 when we obviously could use a right tackle, pass rusher, QB or high impact receiver? Even if you take out Bush and/or Thomas, quality running backs can be picked up with later picks. Quality OTs, QBs and pass rushers won't be slipping to later rounds without simply getting lucky. I would be pissed! As far as an offensive guard is concerned, I would be ok with it if we didn't have so many other more difficult positions to address. I would be pissed depending on the players that are taken 1-7. I would be disappointed no matter what. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Pappy13 on April 17, 2012, 04:46:17 pm It will be if ANYONE jumps up higher than #8 to take Tannehill. I won't be shocked if Miami takes him at #8 and I won't be shocked if they go another route and he falls further on down the line. Now if he's still there in say round 2 and they DON'T take him there, then I will put a gun in my mouth. I swear I will.
Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: MikeO on April 17, 2012, 05:52:52 pm Every time Miami trades DOWN and passes on superstar or a quality player to pick up more marginal players.
Last time that happened, moved out of #12 to get Oddrick and Misi. Oddrick is a nice player, Misi sucks. Miami could have had an impact player instead we come away with a back-up DT. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Spider-Dan on April 17, 2012, 06:17:39 pm If Tannehill is there at 8, and the Dolphins pass on him, I will clap loudly. I will not be upset. What if they pass on him and take Weeden or Cousins?I mean, Miami did a great thing in passing on Brady Quinn, but the alternative was arguably even worse. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Just to add on, in the world we live in "perception is reality" and Draft day could be a bad one for Miami (perception wise and being in the spotlight wise) "IF" one situation plays out. Word out of Seattle is they are hot for Tannehill and would take him if he falls to them or they are considering trading up to get him. If Seattle gets both Flynn and Tannehill (to go with Tavaris Jackson) and Miami is left picking a bum in Round 4 like Cousins or whoever...then get ready for the Ireland bashing to start in again with the national media. Get ready for the Dolphins to be the butt of every football joke among the Schefter's, Clayton's,King's, Mort's of the world. Get ready for Dolphins bashing like never before. It will make the recent "blunders" by Ross and Ireland look like nothing, this one will get real ugly. I'm just saying if that scenario plays out, be ready for it. Now if Miami ends up with Weeden then that would soften this blow some, but if Seattle gets Tannehill and Miami doesn't get Weeden...its gonna be ugly as I stated above. Now, even if Irealnd doesn't want Tannehill and has no intention of drafting him, if Seattle JUMPS Miami and takes him the perception will be they stole him from us and trust me this gives Jeff Ireland nightmares I am sure! You must really be mad since you forgot what position Misi plays. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: MikeO on April 17, 2012, 07:02:56 pm You must really be mad since you forgot what position Misi plays. I didn't forget, I didn't mention it. (Oddrick is the backup DT I was talking about) Fact is Misi stinks. Has done little since being on the Dolphins. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. Post by: Landshark on April 18, 2012, 08:05:38 am Don't mean to derail this thread, but my biggest WTF draft moment has to be back in 2003 when Dave Wannstedt selected Eddie Moore, a linebacker from Tennessee who wasn't even projected to go on the first day. Anquan Boldin was available and the Dolphins needed help at the offensive skill positions. Wanny drafted a linebacker.
To me, that's bigger than the Ted Ginn fiasco because Ginn had some flashes of brilliance. Moore never played a down. Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. It looks like they like quantity over quality. Buy high, sell low! Title: Re: This years WTF? draft moment. I don't think it's gonna matter. If they take Tannehill at #8 or move up to get him, they'll be bashed for reaching. If someone jumps them and takes Tannehill at #7, they'll be crucified for not moving up to get him. If he's there at #8 and they don't take him they'll be crucified for not addressing the QB problem in the off season. Basically someone will find something NOT to like no matter what Miami does. The only possible scenario that I see where it could be construed they made out is if they pass on him at #8 and he's still there at say 25 or something and they package some picks to move up and get him them. That's the only possible scenario where Miami won't be labeled as a loser in this draft. There's a definate crap on Miami vibe going around the league at the moment and everyone is trying to find a way to bash them.
