Title: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: MikeO on May 14, 2012, 07:46:14 pm CFL RB Jerome Messham is having a 2nd surgery on his left meniscus in 5 months.
It was a longshot for him to make this team from the get go, this just probably made it impossible! His entire offseason is shot. Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: AquaandOrange on May 14, 2012, 07:52:17 pm Does this mean his knee is torn? Or could this be a clean-up type procedure? Have any insight on the details of this surgery?
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: MikeO on May 14, 2012, 07:54:37 pm don't know all the details but he (Messham) is putting up depressing sounding tweets about this, doesn't sound good.
He wasn't making this team anyway. With Bush/Thomas/ Miller and then re-signing Steve Slaton in the offseason he had an uphill battle. They thought very little of him because they gave him a non-guaranteed contract for no money. This was NOT a Cam Wake 2.0 type of thing. Wake had teams fighting over him. This guy didn't and got the lowest of the low type of offer one could get. Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: AquaandOrange on May 14, 2012, 07:57:45 pm Ok. I agree with all your statements above.
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: Doc-phin on May 15, 2012, 12:43:36 pm I believe we were trying to work with him in primarily a full back roll. It seems to me that this news helps Clay get more play time considering all the tight ends we added this offseason. And it also helps one of the long shot tight ends chances of making the team because of that.
Bummer for the guy though. You hate to see an injury hamper a career before it has a chance. Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 15, 2012, 01:17:10 pm I think his odds of making the team just went from "slim" to "none".
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: tubba marxxx on May 15, 2012, 02:48:36 pm I thought he was going to play fullback with Charles Clay being more of a TE
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: Phishfan on May 15, 2012, 03:31:34 pm I think that was an idea floated on this board (which we all need to be careful of). I don't know if it came from anywhere else but I had little interest in this player from the beginning.
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: MikeO on May 16, 2012, 05:29:27 pm FB Ovie Mughelli coming for a visit on Thursday. He helped Michael Turner get 1,000+ yards in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl and more importantly was named "ALL-PRO." Missed last year with an injury. Only reason Atlanta cut him was to save $3 mill.
If Miami signs him, good-bye Messham! Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: EKnight on May 16, 2012, 06:01:11 pm Where is Miami getting all this money from to sign anyone? They haven't signed any of their draft picks yet have they?? -EK

Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: Cathal on May 17, 2012, 09:52:46 am I'm with EKnight. I don't understand how all the salary cap rules work but I thought Miami was pretty tight on money this year.
Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: Doc-phin on May 17, 2012, 11:26:19 am Ovie Mughelli will be 33 before the start of the season. I doubt he would be more than a stop-gap measure. But the fact that we are bringing him mostly answers our questions about Charles Clay being primarily a tight end and Messam being a full back. Mughelli is not a camp body.

They're not saying anything more than it was on his meniscus, which could mean complete cartilage repair or just a small arthroscopic procedure, if I'm correct. No word on if it is a complete meniscetomy. -EK Title: Re: Messham having 2nd surgery in 5 months Post by: MikeO on May 17, 2012, 05:40:36 pm Ross did say money was not an issue for him ;D lol, the Fins are in good cap shape. The rookie thing is no big problem for them. They have to either re-structure Long or cut some no-name scrub to sign all their rookies, that isn't an issue. That is easy work. Just a matter of when they do it, not if. it's only Mid-May, no rush at all. If they want to add a FB like Mughelli and give him a 1 year deal, since he is coming off a major injury, it won't cost a lot. And they cut another lower-tier guy (like Trusnick or whoever) and it works perfectly. Miami is sitting in great cap shape right now and entering next year it looks to get even better. UPDATE: Fins signed BJ Cunningham today. |
