Title: Observations from week 2
Post by: BigDaddyFin on September 17, 2012, 08:14:02 am
Long must really be playing hurt.  I never heard of this guy Shaunessy before today.

Tannehill played a much better game even though the pass pro wasn't that great.

We ran the ball too much on first down especially in the first half.  Hopefully that changes more as the season goes on.

Our linebackers suck at pass coverage.  There was no excuse for getting caught inside on that screen pass and thankfully Palmer couldn't throw to his TE on every play.

Hartline is a huge upgrade now that he's back in the game.

Fasano isn't catching a lot of passes but he seems to be playing his ass off.

Our Defensive line played well again this week even though they didn't get a lot of sacks.  Guys were all over Carson Palmer.

I'm not so sure. I too thought they were being a little too predictable on offense in the first half running on first down, but they pretty much did the same thing in the second half and it started paying dividends, so I was glad in the end they stuck with the run game. They showed good balance throughout the game even though the Raiders are a good run defense team and the holes were there in the 2nd half. This is a good running team, I think we need to stick with it as much as possible to keep the pressure off the passing game, but that relys on the defense being able to keep them in games and keep the score low. If the defense can do that, I think this offense is capable of running and passing on teams.

Rads had pressure on RT until they started rolling him out

Fins gave Palmer all day until the 4th quarter

Have we seen a blitz yet?

Wake was held all game

Bush doesn't need much room to break it

Tanny and Hartline have good timing

Nolan Carroll still sucks

Ditto for Chris Clemons

Naanee is a waste of a roster spot

Fields get better and better

The secondary needs help ASAP. BTW, Bell looked good yesterday!

Philbin knows when to use a TO, unlike Sparano

The Dolphins blitz all the time in fact they rarely just rush 4 on obvious passing downs, they just don't get to the QB ever. A couple of the incompletions in the 2nd half were definately due to the rush though where Miami was regularly bringing 5 and sometimes 6 players. This is why it's such a huge problem because even when they bring 5 or 6 it's no guarantee they are going to get to the QB even with statue like Carson Palmer. This is why I think the secondary of Miami is actually a little better than the fans give them credit because they are getting zero help from the pass rush. With a better pass rush, they wouldn't have to stay with their man as long. There was actually pretty good coverage on a number of passes yesterday. I saw more passes knocked down then I've seen in a long time and we even had a rare pick where our guy stepped in front of the receiver! I loved whomever's comment that said "Are we allowed to do that?". LOL

The thing I noticed most was defenders taking bad angles. Too often the defender ran at the point of another defender being blocked and stepped inside when the block was made freeing up the outside. They need to aim outside so worst case the runner has to cut back but too often they gave free yards.

These replacement refs are letting a TON of holding go on. Which hurts someone like Wake.

That's a reach.

Not at all. SIRIUS NFL Radio today did a breakdown of all the penalties from first 2 weeks last year to first 2 weeks this year. Offensive line holding is way way down. Pass Interference calls are way way up. Bob Papa said in the 2 Giants game he has done thus far the o-linemen are getting away with murder when it comes to holding. Sal Palantonio said the same. These replacements don't know how to call it because they see it on every play so they call nothing. And Pass Interference for them is easy to call so they make MORE of those calls than there should be to over compensate.

If that's true then someone needs to tell our offensive line because they are clearly NOT benefitting.

A great win, mos def. Fins now tied for 1st in AFC East. Savor it while it lasts. Still, we're not going to be playing the Raiders every week.

Fins did look too predictable on 1st Down.

Hartline was great but by next week teams will have figured out a way to stop those out routes.

Still didn't see much in way of a vertical game.

Still didn't see any screen passes to Reggie Bush, which is Football 101 how to counter a big rush.

Still can't cover Tight Ends.

Fins play Mets (I mean Jets) this week. They can lose 10 games this year and I'd still call it a good Season if we can beat the Mets (I mean Jets), who are most class-less, loud-mouth cheap-shot artists in the League.

I ABSOLUTELY agree. I saw several holds right in front of the refs and there was no call. To be honest, I am not sure they even know the rules. These guys either need to get up to speed PRONTO or the league will have to bow to the crazy demands of the union. Truth is, 4 more weeks and we won't be able to see the difference. The regs were never all that great.
