Title: Oh yeah, Yeremiah Bell too...
Post by: MikeO on September 21, 2012, 07:26:55 am
From the Miami Herald...Bell is starting for the Jets and has allowed four of the five passes thrown against him to be completed, for 80 yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

Like Vontae Davis another good move. Addition by Subtraction!!

This was a case of Sparano picking up a guy from his old team that he liked. In some regards it made sense because the Jets have guys that can cover and Bell should help in the run game, but he's a liability in pass coverage. They knew that when they got him so I don't think they are really worried about his pass coverage skills, they'll try to hide him as much as possible. That gets tougher to do when Revis isn't in the game. He fits better in NY than he did in Miami, so I was happy to see him go as Miami needs guys that can cover, they have a pretty good run defense without him.

That says it perfectly. Bell was always one of my favorites. Really loved to see him on the safety blitz!

He starts for them. Not sure how you "HIDE" someone who starts!

Fasano is about to have a career day.

I loved Bell, but F him now.

You try to get him matched up with the weakest offensive route runner or better yet have him blitz or something.

Bell can't stop anyone.  You can't hide that. You can't hide weak links in this league.

With Revis and Cromartie and that defense you can hide a lot... especially against a weak receiving corps like Miami has!  Tough to exploit a safety if the defense is blitzing your weak right side of the line and giving multiple looks to a rookie QB.  You have to have time to get the ball to the guy that safety (Bell) is covering...I'm not sure how much 3-4 Tannehill saw in college but, I'm sure he hasn't seen any nearly as good.  I'm hoping Philbin found some ways to exploit that Jet's defense.

Cromartie stinks. He is a marginal/run-of-the-mill CB and always has been

Average defensive back.  Above average return man.

Didn't say he was great...with Revis taking away the #1 he doesn't have to be!  A lot of his Int's are from QB's being pressured and having to get rid of the ball quickly...  which was my point.

I doubt Sparano has much say on the personel for the defense of the Jets.   There is always a lot of movement with in divisions because you are so familiar with those guys from the tape.  There must have been something about Bell that Rex liked.

From the Miami Herald: Reshad Jones: More mature and less error-prone, so far, allowing only one of four passes against him to be completed, for 13 yards, with one interception. Pro Football Focus ranks him third among NFL safeties. Clemons is 29th, and Jets safety Yeremiah Bell, cut by Miami, is 50th.

Look for Bell to have a good day as many former Dolphins have done.

Oh I'm sure that Rex liked Bell too for the exact reasons I mentioned (he fits better in the Jets defense then he does in Miami's), I'm just saying that anytime a head coach moves from one team to another lots of times a player or 2 will often come with him because that player was well liked by the coach that's leaving and not so well liked by the coach that is replacing him. And I wouldn't be so quick to think that Sparano doesn't have a say in personnel for the defense of the Jets. He played against those Jets twice a year for 4 years and actually did pretty well against them record wise. I'm sure that he has a few thoughts on how to attack them that Rex listened to. Rex is an ass, but he had a lot of respect for Sparano. If he didn't he wouldn't have asked him to be his offensive coordinator.
