How the fuck is Too Tall Jones not in the H.O.F.?

This guy got screwed by the lack of a sack stat for the first half of his career.

Cris Carter
Ricky Watters
Jonathan Ogden
Warren Sapp
Michael Strahan
Joe Jacoby
Art Modell

Watters is hated by all and he will never get in. Although 10,000+ rushing and 4,000+ receiving with close to 80 TD's he belongs. Modell pissed off too many people and if he doesn't get in this year with his death on everyone's mind he might never either. He helped build the NFL but his actions when he left Cleveland left a sour taste in the mouth of many of the voters.

I feel you on that. But then again, there are a lot of players that I feel the same way about. Such as Lester Hayes, Charles Haley, Joe Jacoby, Dexter Manley, Lomas Brown, Tim Brown,  and many others.

Am I over-remembering Herschel Walker?  I thought he was a shoe-in for the Hall.  Was he really a bum?

There are a lot of names on that list you could argue for but I think people will look at Michael Strahan, Cris Carter, Charles Haley, and Jerome Bettis

I don't think he was a bum I think was a solid NFL Running back.  I don't know that he's hall worthy.

Herschel is more remembered for what he did in college than in the NFL. He isn't an NFL hall of fame player

The biggest thing he did in the NFL was get traded wasn't it?

Not to sound gay or anything but has anyone seen him lately? That guy is 50 and looks like he is 27, all muscle and no fat.

I would like to see Steve Sabol get in. Shocked Art Rooney jr.  (1961 - present) is not in.

It's insane to me that Walker isn't in. Brian- you're not misremembering anything. 8225 NFL career rushing yards. 4859 recieving yards. 5084 kickoff-return yards. Another 5562 yards in the USFL, including a record 2411 yard season. It's not the NFL hall of fame, it's the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so there's no reason NOT to look at his total 13787 yards. He is the only player gain 4,000 yards three different ways: rushing, receiving, and kickoff returns, the only player to have 10,000+ yards from scrimage and 5,000+ return yards, and one of a handful of players with 60 TDs rushing and 20 TDs receiving. -EK

I always thought of Herschel Walker to be on par with Emmitt Smith.  I guess I was too young to remember.

Ogden, Larry Allen, Strahan stand out as the solid first-timers.

I think Sabol, Terell Davis, and Sapp are good picks.

Oops, I missed Sapp.  He'll be in the mix for sure.

TD has been on the list for a while and hasn't even been a finalist yet.

I don't have a problem with Sabol getting in, but not this year.  It's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Recently Deceased.

I disagree. I don't know anyone who is more synonymous for NFL football and that makes him a HOFer.

This isn't his first year on the list, though, and the only significant event that he was involved in since the last vote was... well, his death.

I do think he should get in eventually, but right after his death (after failing to qualify before) is just pandering.

Agree. It has nothing to do with him being recently deceased. Sabol and his dad are responsible for what "us fans" enjoy today.

How does HOF eligibility work?

I am thinking a player is not eligible until 5 yrs. after retiring, yet Stealers DC Dick LeBeau, who still coaches was inducted a couple of years ago. Anyone know?

I agree. Plus his Dad just went in and they sorta "shared" that moment so, don't need to see it again so soon.

Half the names on that list are a joke. Mark Clayton, I mean I like the guy and all as a good Dolphin but he wasn't close to a hall of fame player. Herschel Walker, please. Did nothing in the NFL and nobody takes the USFL seriously, it's like counting someone's XFL or AFL's stats.  It's a joke. Neil Lomax? Really? Drew Bledsoe? Huh? Keenan McCardell? Please.

There are a bunch of good names on that list who deserve to get in, but half of that list is a waste of time.

The election for HOF'ers is no different from the Pro Bowl selections. There will always be deserving people left out and there will always be those selected for popularity or one great game / year.

Joe Namath is a perfect example.

Exactly. Everyone who retires doesn't need to be on the Hall of Fame eligibility list in reality. There needs to be a revamped system where a group of people just eliminate some players out of pure common sense.

Isn't there a limit to the number of years you can be considered? I think in baseball, you get 5 shots and that is it.
