Title: Parcells protege's in danger of losing their jobs for following his advice
Post by: Landshark on October 09, 2012, 07:42:09 pm
Interesting piece by Jason Cole.  He says that it's because they're stand-offish with the media that they are reviled around the league, not because of the poor decisions they've made.

You can be stand offish with the media as long as you produce results on the field. Pioli and Ireland have failed in the results department. Ireland might be turning that around this year but its still very early and the jury is still out on him. Pioli has been an utter failure in KC

Kind of funny that Parcel's guys seem to get the same reaction even in different clubs.  "a banner calling for his firing and quarterback Matt Cassel's benching was flown before Sunday's game."

I was never a big Parcell's guy. I felt his best work was done by accidently hiring the right people. Without those, he was just another smash mouth football guy who couldn't think out of the box.

I think Pioli has made a few good decisions in KC.  The biggest blunder he made was not getting a replacement for Matt Cassel who proved to be just a journeyman backup QB who looked good because he was surrounded by serious talent.

Sorry, I have Jason Cole rated even below Armando and just above whale poop (but it is close). I just cannot read his crap. They ran him out of Miami and somehow he is hanging on at Yahoo. I don't think he has any friends in South Florida and certainly no insight to the Fins.

There not in danger of losing their job b/c they aren't talking they are in danger of losing their job because their teams suck.

I only heard one radio interview with Pioli his entire time in NE.  (He may have given more than that but it was the only one I recall).  It was a few weeks after the 2001 Superbowl.

Never once did I ever hear of any rumor of anybody even thinking Scott P should be fired.  Might have something to do with 3 SB wins in four years.

I believe the point being made by the article is that you can lose graciously and not have planes flown overhead demanding your release; e.g. Carl Peterson with KC, Rick Smith with HOU, A.J. Smith with SD, etc.

But if you're going to be a hardass, then you'd better make sure you're winning or you will be run out quickly.  Pioli and McDaniels were both fine when they were winning in NE, but when they moved to their new teams, that act got old fast.

What are the good decisions? His drafts have been pretty bad. And he has been unable to lock up Bowe and now Bowe will be walking at seasons end.

what the hell does being nice to the media have to do with winning games?

I can't remember anybody ever saying "I'm firing the coach because he made a reporter feel bad about themself"

This is total crap... Coaches get fired because they don't win, not because they give sportswriters material.
