Title: What is wrong with Pittsburgh?
Post by: Pappy13 on October 21, 2012, 09:36:47 pm
I haven't been watching the game till just now (almost halftime), but it seems everytime I seem them play they are losing. I know they are banged up a bit, but that doesn't explain how poorly they are playing. They can't seem to get out of their own way this year.

Offensive line is terrible. No running back at all. Old and injured on defense. Big Ben HATES his offensive coordinator Todd Haley.

Pittsburgh has taken a bunch of steps back overnight. They are a borderline .500 team.  Baltimore has gotten bad on defense overnight with all of their injuries (and when Reed and Ray retire they are screwed). New England isn't anywhere near the same team they have been the past decade. They are an ordinary team these days.

This is the early stages of the "changing of the guard" in the AFC. Houston has ascended to the top dog in the AFC. Balt and NE will be good this year but going forward each have big issues to deal with long-term. I see a young team like Miami taking baby steps this year and maybe making a big leap in a year or two. A team like Cincy that is young with the key building blocks in place who made the playoffs last year is on the rise.  This is the early stages of the changing of the guard I think in the AFC.

Like half their starters are injured and not playing

Apparently nothing as they managed to pull out a win on the road.

Against Cincy where Dalton and Green did not have a good game and Green-Ellis didn't look the same after he was hurt. I wasn't impressed with Pittsburgh and even less impressed with Cincy. Cincy is not that good and Pittsburgh is only slightly better. Perhaps that all changes by the end of the year if they get healthy, perhaps not.

I watched the first part of the game and the Bengals were dominating.  My eyes got heavy so I turned it off and went to bed.  Woke up this morning to find the Steelers had come roaring back in the third quarter.  My how things can change.

It seems to me that Pitt is an entirely different team without Polamulu. I agree Mike, it is indeed changing of the guard.

We thought Pitt was too old last year. Maybe we were just 1 year early.

I watched bits and pieces before going to bed, but it seemed to me that Dalton did not have a very good game. I thought he was better then that.

I have a couple buddies that are huge Steelers fans, both are disappointed in the Steelers.  I was talking to one yesterday and he didn't even want to watch the game, said they are old and have a bunch of injuries.

Steelers had their day. Time for a change. Also, DC Dick Le Beau will be retiring this year. He has been the master of the D for years. Consider too, as the players are getting older we see more injuries and it takes longer to get back.

I haven't watched the Steelers much this season, but Mike Wallace dropped a TON of very, very catchable balls at critical times against the Bengals.

On offense, they're down to their 3rd string running back and down two starting offensive linemen, including center Maurkice Pouncey. If your receivers start dropping balls, it's going to be extremely hard to get a win.

Combine that offense with a D that was clearly built around a player with unique skills -- and, let's face it, Polamalu doesn't seem like a player you should depend on to play a full season any longer (and even when he does, he's only very good, not quite great). It doesn't help that most of the linebackers on the roster are also struggling with injuries!

And despite all that, they still have a decent shot at making the playoffs.
