Title: Shame of the Game- Colts
Post by: Landshark on November 04, 2012, 04:20:30 pm
My Shame of the Game goes to defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.  His unit, particularly the secondary, made Andrew Luck look like a Pro Bowler and gave up over 400 passing yards.

Honorable mentions to Sean Smith for misplaying two key critical interceptions and Jake Long for getting beat constantly by Dwight Freeny.  I wouldn't mind seeing both gone next year.  Long is clearly not what he used to be and his play no longer justifies his huge contract.  Smith is so big and uncoordinated that he constantly gets turned around and loses sight of the ball.

Sean Smith. The long TD pass, the missed tackle on third down by their end zone and the last interception that he dropped as he tried to get up.  Any one of these plays could have changed the game.

the Defense today doesn't deserve to play areana football :-\  i cannot remember the last time ive seen a game that could of been won many of times only to allow a rookie qb to look like a hero.    SOG to everyone on DEFENSE!!!!!

^ You must pick only one person for your vote to be counted.

I choose Sean Smith.

This might be the easiest S.o.t.G. made all season.  Sean Smith was particularly awful today.  When he wasn't allowing TDs, he was dropping INTs, or missing tackle after tackle.  The defense was horrible as a whole, but Sean Smith was the clear ring leader in suckitude today.

The defense is not eligible for the goat trailer.  Please pick one name.

Easily Sean Smith with a nod to Jake Long. I hate seeing their names, particular Long's, so many times after these games. I think Sean has really developed this year and this might have just been a brain fart game (how do you seriously drop two very easy INTs?). Jake, on the other hand, and I've been saying this since preseason, is gonna get Ryan killed out there.

Sean Smith... but the scary thing is, he still played significantly better than Wilson and Carroll.

This truly looked like the Dolphins of the recent (frustrating) past, complete with complete inability to stop third and long, complete short touch passes to open receivers, and general coverage of anyone playing tight end. The O-line and D-lines also both played like crap.

If our pass-rush is non-existent, then it falls to our secondary, which has been shown to not really be able to cover anyone.

Sean Smith (Why do people not understand to just pick a single name? It is a rather easy concept to understand.)

It seems pretty unanimous.  Smith was terrible.  Long looked slow and got beat a lot as well, but he was facing one of the league's best all day.  That was a good matchup to watch.  But Smith gave up 2 big plays himself by mis-playing the ball, and deserves the blame, despite his recent improvement.

Out of the box crazy ass answer - The Turf at Lucas oil stadium...There were periods where it looked like our team had never played on turf indoors...

In the old days I would agree with you. They get plenty of practice time in the bubble which is artificial turf.

There are multiple types and subtypes of artificial turf. So while they may have been practicing on fake grass it might have not had the same feel/traction etc.

It isn't that big of a deal from my experience. I've been on the Dolphins, UCF's multipurpose fields and the brand new turf at the Citrus Bowl on several occasions. For that matter I've been on two local high school's turf as well.  They are either all the same or they do not have much of a difference to them. The older stuff kind of sucked and was more varied but it seems like the new turf which requires the rubber fillers are very similar.

As a soccer coach I absolutely hate artificial turf but running has never been the issue.

I just felt like...Other than the Reggie Bush run, their team was able to stay on their feet, our guys looked like they were playing on Ice most of the game...

The turf in the bubble is the same "field-turf" that appeared to be in Lucas Oil stadium.  Not sure what variants there are of that but it looked to be the same.

Anything remotely new uses a "3rd generation" artificial turf,  whether it's AstroTurf or FieldTurf branded. And they are fairly similar, so if  you're used to one, there's really no excuse.

For anyone who hasn't seen the new stuff up close,  it's a huge improvement over the old crap. The "grass" is set on a rubber pellet base and uses much thinner and more flexible "blades", which are even coated with silicone to reduce friction, so you don't get those burns that even second generation AstroTurf gave.

(The Dolphins use SportGrass brand turf in their bubble,  AFAIK, while the Oil Can uses FieldTurf )

The rubber base makes you feel "fast" just walking on it, cause you almost bounce when you step. I would think its a better surface to play on than even real grass.  I really like it.

Tanny...  huh? Sure D sucked but only gave up 23. We had ball at midfield w/ just over 2 min. left before half not only did we miss a chance to really jump on Indy but scored 3 whole points rest of game!! What a fucking nightmare of a game 3rd. & forever bam!! Who got that man?

The entire secondary gets shame of the game.  Sean Smith played poorly, too many completed passes on third and long, missed tackles.  A record passing day.  And the best part, everybody on the planet knew Indy was going to throw the ball.
