Title: Johnny Football Post by: bsmooth on November 26, 2012, 06:56:19 pm Does Manziel win the Heisman this year?
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: el diablo on November 26, 2012, 08:07:21 pm Definitely in the conversation. Only one bad game (vs. LSU), as a freshman. 68% completion percentage. 24 TD's to 8 int's. 3 of those came in one game.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Landshark on November 26, 2012, 09:31:56 pm He's a freshman, he's got three more chances to win it. Texas A&M figures to be scary good next year.

Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: masterfins on November 27, 2012, 12:01:02 pm I think there are enough arrogant sports writers that won't vote for a freshman.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: el diablo on November 27, 2012, 07:16:08 pm He had 19 rushing too? Sorry. I just came across that fact this morning. Along with the 3419 passing yds. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Landshark on December 08, 2012, 10:17:27 pm I think there are enough arrogant sports writers that won't vote for a freshman. Apparently not. Now you can call this kid Johnny Heisman. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Landshark on August 07, 2013, 08:27:59 am BUMP
Looks like he might not see the field this year and possibly not again. Word is out he signed autographs for money, a clear and serious violation of NCAA rules. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Spider-Dan on August 10, 2013, 12:28:46 am Actually, looks like now that it's a rich white kid that broke the rules, suddenly The Media is in an uproar about The Plight Of The College Athlete. Is Johnny Manziel college football's Rosa Parks because he signed some jerseys for money? According to a Fox Sports reporter, yes (http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/johnny-manziel-case-was-tipping-point-in-ncaa-hypocrisy-080813).
Oh, and this same reporter's opinion of Terrelle Pryor receiving free tattoos? A "college football terrorist." (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/NFL-commissioner-Roger-Goodell-right-to-punsh-Ohio-State-QB-Terrell-Pryor-after-NCAA-failed-082411) The irony doesn't stop there, either. More about Pryor (emphasis added): "Please also stop with the 'he’s a catalyst for change' meme. Real change begins with a guy willing to sacrifice for a larger principle, the guy standing in front of the tank at Tiananmen Square, not a guy trying to get the Chinese word for 'Buckeye' tattooed onto his bicep for free. No revolution ever began with “Free tattoos” as a battle cry. Or “Show me the money,” as in Reggie Bush’s case, or “Hey, Nevin, pass me a stripper,” as in the allegations against The Miami 15." Apparently, Johnny Football selflessly sacrificing himself to take money for signing jerseys is just the principled stand America needed. Now, I've previously said that I think the NCAA is shamelessly exploiting these players. But the rank hypocrisy on display sickens me. That being said, if it takes a rich, white, Heisman-winning QB from the SEC to break the rules in order for people to question how exploitative they are, I'll take it. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: bsmooth on August 10, 2013, 12:38:44 am I don't think it will change anything. The NCAA stands to lose too much money if it lets this happen, plus all the major sports will just turn into farm teams for the pros.
Also once they can get paid, what stops the big money boosters from getting involved and paying players to attend certain programs. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Phishfan on August 12, 2013, 10:06:44 am Mt problem with the kid has nothing to do with these NCAA rules. I think he is simply an overgrown brat. His other actions are what concern me much more than this autograph story.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: CF DolFan on August 12, 2013, 11:09:21 am I agree Phish. The only statement this kid is making is he is an immature ass.

This is why the NCAA has NO credibility.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: CF DolFan on August 28, 2013, 09:58:44 pm Susprned for one half of first game. This is why the NCAA has NO credibility. The statement said there was no evidence that Manziel received payment for signing autographs. The NCAA and A&M agreed on the one-half suspension because Manziel violated NCAA bylaw 12.5.2.1, an NCAA representative confirmed. The rule says student-athletes cannot permit their names or likenesses to be used for commercial purposes, including to advertise, recommend or promote sales of commercial products, or accept payment for the use of their names or likenesses. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Landshark on August 28, 2013, 10:07:11 pm The NCAA should suspend itself, permanently

NCAA: Johnny, did you make any money off those signings? Manziel: No. Obviously nothing to see here. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: bsmooth on August 29, 2013, 01:46:38 am They could have subpoenaed his bank records for deposits. I doubt he took no money for all those autographs.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: CF DolFan on August 29, 2013, 08:00:14 am ^^^^ You don't think it would of been a cash deal? Why leave a paper trail if you knowingly are doing something illegal?
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Brian Fein on August 29, 2013, 08:27:17 am Any bank deposits don't mean anything but circumstantial. it would be suspicious, but doesn't prove anything
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Landshark on August 29, 2013, 09:24:19 am What I don't understand is how the NCAA can go after Miami with blazing barrels and they've been doing it for three years, but they spend all of five minutes with Johnny Manziel.

Sounds like EA Sports and their college football game if you ask me. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: CF DolFan on August 29, 2013, 10:49:59 am ^^^Do the college games have actual players on them?
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Phishfan on August 29, 2013, 11:10:19 am ^^^ They do not name them but they use their current numbers (and I believe their listed size). There is a current lawsuit led by Ed O'Bannon. Several football players have joined in as well now.
Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Sunstroke on August 29, 2013, 11:16:14 am Yes they do. I've never played them, but a couple of quick clicks to the EA Sports College Football game page confirmed: http://www.easports.com/ncaa-football (http://www.easports.com/ncaa-football) I'm certain that is Denard Robinson, Michigan's QB the past few seasons (and a utility QB/RB/WRthat I drafted in my huge dynasty IDP league's rookie draft this past week). RGIII (and someone else) was on the 2013 game, and Mark Ingram was on the 2012 game. I am 100% there with you on this. Title: Re: Johnny Football Post by: Spider-Dan on August 29, 2013, 12:43:07 pm Dez Bryant should be flipping over tables right about now. He got suspended for the remainder of a season (9 games) for having a conversation with Deion Sanders, yet Manziel is selling autographs and he gets "suspended" (?!?) for ONE FREAKING HALF OF A GAME after a five-minute investigation?
