Just so I don't totally derail the "Best Team in NFL" thread talking friendly smack to TDMMC's local Patriots fans, I thought I'd just create a separate thread. I am definitely looking forward to this game as much as any regular season game in recent memory, and hope it lives up to the hype and turns out to be one of those "game for the ages" kind of show.

On a minor statistical note... The 49ers and Patriots have both faced all 3 of the other teams in their opponent's division this season.

New England vs. NFC West: 1-2, combined score: 86-51
San Francisco vs. AFC East:  3-0, combined score: 106-16

Dolphins, Jets and Bills suck.  This is not news. 

^^^ Of course... I'm certain the 49ers expect the Patriots to be much tougher than the AFC East opponents they've already faced. I'm also certain that the Patriots expect the 49ers to be much tougher than the NFC West opponents they've already faced.

Game is in NE....Pats should win easily. SF can't keep up if the Pats start scoring points

If the 49ers are unable to put pressure on Brady, I would expect the Patriots to win this match-up. Problem is...I fully expect the 49ers to blow up the Patriots O-line and hit Brady...early, often and brutally. Four sacks, minimum, and Brady coughs it up on at least one of those.

On offense, the best O-line in the league will enforce its will on the Patsies' front seven, en route to 200+ rushing yards. After the game, Belichick complains about OG Mike Iupati, saying it isn't fair to put a uniform on an industrial steamroller.

I really think SF is overrated this year. I don't like their offense at all

Too bad most of us didn't get to see it when NBC cut to the president's speech.

But all you needed to do was switch to CNBC.

It was on two other channels (CNBC and NBC Sports)...I didn't miss a second.

Extremely happy with the first half. It was sloppy as hell for both sides in the "hang on to the damned ball" department, but I think the 49ers are playing as well as I expected, on both sides of the ball.

Lots of clock left to go though, and Brady has one or two comebacks on his resumé.

Announcer is talking about how the Seahawks have scored 50+ points in two straight games... I'll bet a dollar that they don't stretch it to 3 games next week against the 49ers? ;D

Well, this is wonderful.  It's made only better by the fact that NE came back and still managed to piss the game away.

What a wonderful weekend of football!

Great game...and a nice win for the 49ers. Nothing but respect for the Patriots...I still fully expect to see them again, Football Gods willing, in the Super Bowl in February. Preferably with the same outcome. ;D

would have been nice to see the golden boy have his td streak snapped.

That's about the only thing that would make me feel better about tonight.  Oh, well.  Can't win 'em all.

This game reminded me of the Niners-Saints game in last year's playoffs.  The Niners built up a big lead and were dominating defensively.  Then the Pats come back and make it a game, only to have the Niners find a way to put themselves over the top at the end.

The fact that the Niners went into Gillette Stadium and were able to beat the Pats in the freezing rain speaks volumes.

If I were you, I'd rather not see the Pats in the Superbowl.  ;)

If the 49ers get to the Super Bowl, I will be happy with "whoever" is there with us...

I always take that attitude.  Good game Sunstroke.  While I am not thrilled with the outcome, it was an increadable game.  When it was 31-3 and the Pats got the ball back I said, "if they don't score on this drive I am going to bed, then they scored"

On the side, two of my most important fantasy playoff match-ups were hinging on this game. In both cases, my opponent had Ridley, and in both cases, I had Hernandez (who I've painfully held on my benches all year). I ended up squeaking wins in both, so I appreciated Hernandez' role in the comeback attempt.

I still think New England is the AFC's best team, a notch ahead of Denver, and count the 49ers as fortunate to catch some lucky bounces (7 of them, actually) and hold on for the W.  Seattle on the road next week is going to be tough as well, so hopefully the Niners can keep up the pace and get ready for the playoffs.

I think NE vs. Denver is too close to call.  This week power rankings should be #1 SF, with 2&3 being NE and Denver, but a coin flip for who is 2 and who is 3.

The only bad thing about this game I couldn't stay awake for most of it (Flu).  What I did see was exciting as hell.  I went to sleep when it was 24-3 SF, woke up after NE made it 31-10, then when I woke up again it was tied.  I saw the last two minutes or so.
