They say the Smith trade is "all but done" but it can't be completed until March 12.  The team is not yet known but everyone is expecting it to be Kansas City.

Talk about destiny. Reid needs a QB to put his stamp on to prove his relevance. Smith needs an offensive oriented coach to prove his relevance. This either ends well with the dethroning of the Broncos. Or ends poorly beneath the Raiders. Either way ESPN has its season long story.

As long as SF either gets a 2nd rounder this year, or a 2nd+ for next year, I'll be happy.

If I had my way, given SF's current roster status, I'd be trading every possible draft asset this year for improved assets next year (try to accumulate multiple 1st and 2nd rounders), so I could have plenty of ammunition to try to trade up for 2014 Draft #1 pick Jadeveon Clowney.

^^^ Yessir, Clowney is a true football freak of nature. A freak who would look absolutely wonderful in SF's front-7 with Justin and Aldon Smith, Patrick Willis and Navarro Bowman. ;D

Yeah, baby!! 49ers get a deal done with the Chiefs, with a 2013 2nd round pick coming back, plus "possible unknown later picks," according to the NFL Network a few minutes ago.

Kansas City only has one 2nd round pick, which is #34 overall. I like Alex, and hope he's successful with KC, but getting the #34 overall pick definitely represents my "best case scenario" wishes for a return on an Alex trade. That could turn into a Datone Jones or Margus Hunt type of D-lineman, or a Justin Hunter caliber WR.

^^^ Yep, just saw the details about the 2014 conditional pick. Now I hope Alex does well even more, in order to maximize whatever value is in that 2014 pick.

Now, trade every draft asset we can to get more traction for the 2014 draft. I want Clowney, dammit! ;D

nobody is gonna trade out of the Clowney pick just like nobody traded out of the Luck pick. I know Clowney isn't a QB but the hype around him will be unreal heading into that draft

I can point to at least one mock that has Clowney going #3 overall in 2014, behind two QBs, so anything is possible. Harbaugh and Baalke will figure a way to get Clowney in a 49ers uniform...so until someone proves their psychic capabilities, I'll go ahead and have sweet QB-smashing daydreams about Jadeveon Clowney and Aldon Smith meeting in opposing backfields for lunch.

Regardless of what happens in 2014, the 49ers are looking solid for 2013. Taking Alex off our cap means we can sign one of our important FAs, like Dashon Goldson, and having extra 2nd and 3rd rounders means we can add some quality talent at need positions (yes, SF actually has needs) at rookie contract prices.

That report sounds like it was written by a Jets fan...  Fuck Revis, I'd rather have any of the top 3 CBs in this draft class, and all three will come in cheaper, younger and healthier.

I read the article, and it's basically a "The 49ers have DB needs, maybe they trade for Revis?" fluff piece with nothing other than the author's need to churn out a page of copy to support it.

I just don't see Harbaugh trading valuable picks, plus pay Revis top CB money, for a guy coming off a torn ACL that caused him to miss virtually the entire season. Not with a good crop of young rookie corners available for a draft pick and pocket change.

While anything is possible, another little snippet of support for "Revis isn't the 49ers focus"... During the Senior Bowl, teams were meeting with prospects after practices, and many of them got noted by the walterfootball.com correspondent, Charlie Campbell. Going through the daily player meetings lists and practice reports, I see 5 references of the 49ers coaches/personnel guys talking to prospects, and all 5 are either corners or safeties. While this certainly doesn't mean that they can't go after Revis, it does look like addressing the CB position is something they want to do in the draft.

One of the CBs the 49ers talked to is Terry Hawthorne (twice), and I am pretty confident that he is one of the corners that is high on SF's list. Personally, I think CB is the one position where we could use a couple of talented young players, and if we have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, I won't be surprised at all if they use 2 of those picks on corners.

The last defensive lineman that got that much hype was a guy named Steve Emtman.  We all know how he turned out

You could make a case for Dan Wilkinson as well.  But I recall Emtman being coveted by several teams that needed his skills and the team that drafted him refused to trade down.  Ironically, that team was Indianapolis, who also did the same thing with Luck.

I simply am 100% convinced that (insert standard "if he stays healthy" disclaimer) Jadeveon Clowney will be one of those every-year Pro-Bowl type of players, and one of the first names mentioned in any discussion of "best pass rushers in the NFL."

I want THAT guy in the 49ers front seven, so I can truly enjoy watching his game. A fella can dream, can't he?
