Title: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MaineDolFan on March 12, 2013, 12:55:31 pm I am really getting a kick out of Patriot fans who seem to think Wes Welker came out of no where and Tom Brady "made him."
They really don't get it, do they? Well, come 4pm when he walks away and signs with the Colts...they will. He's the toughest SOB in the game (1) and he's on the field every Sunday. He does everything they ask of him (2), which includes fielding punts, kick offs and, oh...catching 1,000 yards worth of passes every year OUT OF THE SLOT. Did I mention the guy stays healthy? Tom Brady "made him?" Really? He didn't catch 80 passes from Cleo freaking Lemon? Things that make you go hmmmm. For "educated" fans, they really know dick. Must be blinded from all the pink. This will be one player that the "Patriot's way" will come back to bite them in the back side. Even with Randy Moss, the offense didn't move without Welker. I can't wait to see the offense sputter next year and then all of these idiots start crying and say "wow, maybe we should have paid him." Danny Amendola? Sure. Good luck signing him and then keeping him on the field. And, if you were going to sign HIM...why not just keep WELKER? Have I mentioned how much I can't stand (most) Patriot fans? "Eldelman is just as good." I actually heard that today. They are like an expansion team fan base, it's like they didn't know football existed until 2001. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on March 12, 2013, 02:27:03 pm I am huge fan of Welkers and will be very disappointed in NE doesn't retain him.
However.... 1) Brady and the NE offense makes him better. Will he still be an outstanding slot reciever on another team? -- absolutely. Will he preform anywhere close to what he as been doing in NE if Mark Sanchez is the guy throwing him the ball? -- absolutely not. 2) He is getting quite expensive. Does he make Brady better? -- absolutely. Should he be making almost as much money as as Brady? -- absolutely not. 3) Is he a tough SOB? Absolutely. Is he getting older? Already have had serious injury? Play in such a way that he is at a high risk to get injured again and take even longer to heal. Once again the answer is yes. The question isn't "is he a great WR?" But "is he worth the money it will cost to keep him?" Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: masterfins on March 12, 2013, 03:11:11 pm I think it's pretty common for Fans to be much more critical of their own team/players than outsiders looking in are. It happens on these boards every week of the season. I hear from fans of other teams also that act the same way.
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: SportsChick on March 12, 2013, 08:11:56 pm I was about to type out a whole response but Hoodie basically summed up my thoughts. Do I want Wes in a Patriots uniform? Absolutely. However, I don't want it at the cost of gaining other pieces that will allow the team to continue their winning ways.
That and I don't want to have to pony up $$ to buy a new jersey going into the new season. I like my Welker one just fine Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MikeO on March 13, 2013, 02:46:58 pm Welker talking contract with Denver right now
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: Sunstroke on March 13, 2013, 03:00:55 pm Denver seems an odd fit, as Denver already has a younger (25) and larger version of Welker already in Eric Decker as their slot WR, and Decker went over 1,000 yards last season with 13 TDs (#2 in NFL). Frankly, I'd rather have Decker in the slot than Welker in 2013... Interesting though...maybe they'd move Decker outside? Have to admit that Peyton Manning armed with Demaryius Thomas on one side, Decker on the other, Welker in the slot and Tamme/Driessen at TE is downright frightening. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MikeO on March 13, 2013, 03:44:50 pm Welker to Denver almost a "done deal" according to Mike Silver of Yahoo Sports
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MikeO on March 13, 2013, 05:00:10 pm Welker signed with Broncos!!! 2 years $12 mill
What does NE do now? Jennings? Amendola? Victor Cruz? Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on March 13, 2013, 05:05:41 pm I love this..... ;D
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MikeO on March 13, 2013, 05:06:47 pm I love this..... ;D Don't get excited if they get Victor Cruz they probably just got better ON the field and younger as well. Sure they lose a 1st round pick but who cares. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on March 13, 2013, 06:32:42 pm I love this..... ;D While I am not thrilled with the loss of WW, anyone who thinks this is going to cripple NE is nuts. Yes, Edelman is a drop off from Wes, but he is good enough when coupled with the best TE Tandem in the league. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on March 14, 2013, 12:15:16 pm ^^^^Never said it was going to cripple them but it will hurt. They over-paid for an often injured Amendola rather than keeping Welker for virtually the same money....that was a horrible move no matter how you slice it. I couldn't be happier!!!!!!
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: Brian Fein on March 14, 2013, 12:20:25 pm Edelman is also a free agent, isn't he?
The only WR NE had under contract was Brandon Lloyd, and now Amendola. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on March 14, 2013, 12:58:58 pm No, they have more than that under contract.
Aiken, Kamar Ebert, Jeremy Holmes, Andre Slater, Matthew and I think Shun White is do back. But they are thin at good WRs. They have a couple of guys who at TE that can play like a WR. So it is not like Brady won't have anyone to throw the ball to. Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: el diablo on March 14, 2013, 09:29:15 pm This will be said many times this season. "When Gronkowski, Hernandez, & Amendola are all healthy..."
Title: Re: Wes Welker and idiot Patriot fans Post by: MaineDolFan on March 15, 2013, 10:44:35 am They have two tight ends who can't stay healthy (1) and are useless without the other (2). Hernandez is little to no value without Gronk on the field and a complete and utter liability in any blocking situations.
In order for this TE combo to be successful for NE they need to be on the field at the same time. Thus far, they haven't been able to do it much. |
