Title: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 18, 2013, 11:03:47 pm - No spoilers - Did anyone else watch the pilot episode of Defiance on SyFy channel? I'm in the "jury is out" camp after the first show. I like some of the characters, there was some good action sequences, but I felt like things were a little shallow. I'll give it another couple of episodes before I make the "follow it or flush it" call. I am a fan of some os the actors involved, like Graham Greene (one of the great supporting actors of all time, imo), plus the main alien "devious bad guy" was in the Underworld movies, plus played Vincent van Gogh in Doctor Who. The mayor is Darla, from the show "Angel," which I liked a lot during its heyday. What did you folks think? Title: Re: Defiance Post by: bsfins on April 18, 2013, 11:20:00 pm I watched it Monday when it premiered, they were cross promoting it during Face off (used it as a challenge, and had them tour the set),it looked interesting.I agree,I'm not sure about it yet..
I don't like that I'm kind of thrown into the middle of a world, with no explanation...Sort of like watching season 2 of a series first.I'm trying to keep up but not knowing why did that happen, who are they? (as a race) Why do they do that? Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 19, 2013, 12:11:27 am ^^^ You just pointed to my biggest issue with the first episode as well...the lack of a back story. Hopefully they'll reveal more of that in the next few shows. Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Dave Gray on April 19, 2013, 10:36:19 am I DVRed it, but haven't yet watched. I'm all for giving new sci-fi a shot.
Title: Re: Defiance Post by: bsfins on April 23, 2013, 11:38:46 am Blah...Same thing..While slightly better, they touched on the who people are,and why they are that way..I feel like the explain everything in the video game,or you've gone through the defiance website on SyFy to watch the show...it's a turn off...Because of this, I don't find myself in the story,or caring at all about any of the characters...
Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 23, 2013, 12:24:01 pm Hey B...do you have cable? If so, the on-demand for Defiance has a number of "inside the show" episodes that explain some stuff...like the different races of aliens. I watched most of those insider pieces between the first and second episodes, and it really did help with my understanding of some of the stuff going on. I do have several "suspension of disbelief" issues with this last episode, particularly with the "old St. Louis" aspect of things. After "that many" years, the Nuke plant still had power? Also, looking at all those skyscrapers underground, I have a hard time looking at the St. Louis Arch being as far above ground as it is. Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Phishfan on April 23, 2013, 12:27:49 pm I watched about 10 minutes of the first episode after seeing this thread started. It just isn't my cup of tea.
Title: Re: Defiance Post by: bsfins on April 23, 2013, 01:41:46 pm Stroke,I have Directv, with no DVR while trying to keep costs down whiles still allowing me to get my football, and baseball fix...They mentioned the extra content is on their website,It's a little too much extra work,to get involved in a show...I'm not really into...
I actually deleted a "spoilers" section in my previous post about the exact same thing...The arch next to the Mississippi survives, but 95% of the city is gone... I was hoping it was more intertwined with reality, and fiction...IE Doctor Who,or Warehouse13 are... (Deleted a Thread-jacking) ***Minor hijacking... I admit,It's odd yet cool, and pretty damn hot seeing Jaime Murray in all pale white...(H.G.Wells in Warehouse13) Same lines seeing both women Dexter Slept with in Season two of Dexter in the show...makes me chuckle...Julie Benz played Dexter's wife (Mayor in Defiance),Jamie Murray played Dexter's Psycho sponsor (Daytak's wife) End minor hijacking*** Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 23, 2013, 02:05:49 pm and pretty damn hot seeing Jaime Murray in all pale white...(H.G.Wells in Warehouse13) Ha! I was thinking the same damned thing. She definitely has flashed a nice amount of side-boob, and I don't care how pale she is, she is one smokin' hot alien. I mean, she was hot enough as the devious - and sometimes evil - H.G. Wells, but she's definitely raised the temperature a few notches in this role. Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 23, 2013, 08:27:04 pm Edited to add the following picture, lest my estimation of "hot alien" comes into question<g>: (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gGRtAyd9Zqo/UWaaICINxdI/AAAAAAAAZOw/363-q1fFKxg/s1600/Jaime+Murray+Defiance.jpg) What's the Castithan word for "Yum?" Title: Re: Defiance Post by: fyo on April 29, 2013, 07:25:22 pm Yet another alien-invasion TV show? And without the weight of Spielberg or JJ Abrams? It's going to be a tough sell, IMHO. The whole post-apocalyptic theme (great though it is) is saturating the audience and the aliens-invade-Earth sub-theme even more so.
Title: Re: Defiance Post by: Sunstroke on April 29, 2013, 07:47:09 pm ^^^ I can't even argue with that, despite it being among my favorite themes... |
