Title: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on April 24, 2013, 02:12:24 pm Exhibit #1 - FAU sells naming rights to a prison.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/florida-atlantic-close-stadium-naming-rights-deal-prison-171206798--ncaaf.html (okay that one is a bit funny) Exhibit #2. James Tracy on Sandy Hook. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/08/fau-professor-newtown-massacre-james-tracy_n_2428898.html Exhibit #3 Jesus stomping exercise. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/01/stomp-on-jesus-professor_n_2990116.html Exhibit #4 the most recent exhibit. James Tracy again. This time on the Boston attack http://news.yahoo.com/america-worst-university-professor-calls-boston-bombings-mass-130226567.html Personally I find #2 and #4 the most disturbing. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Brian Fein on April 24, 2013, 02:24:39 pm Just like Carnival cruise lines, people want to put these things under the microscope.
These stories, in themselves, are not news worthy. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on April 24, 2013, 02:32:36 pm ^^^
One of them isn't newsworthy. One is semi-newsworthy. But tax dollars being spent to pay the salary of James Tracy so he can have a forum to spew his particular brand of evil, is most certainly newsworthy. He should be fired. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Dave Gray on April 24, 2013, 03:48:40 pm The prison naming thing would've been great. They could've called the stadium "Owl"catraz, which would've been amazing. I heard students protested, the prison pulled funding, and it ended up in a tuition hike.
The Jesus-stomping incident was due to a nutty student. After all the facts came out, the professor seemed to be doing nothing except injecting a little controversy and interest into the subject matter, which I view as a good thing. As for the conspiracy nut, it's a tough call -- the guy is clearly a whack job, but where does his personal life end and his professional life begin. I am of the belief that you do something in public (like a blog, where you use your real face/name) that embarrasses your employer, you are liable. But it's a tweener. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Fau Teixeira on April 24, 2013, 04:53:34 pm what i find funny is that if you read the comments a you can find stuff like "this is what you get when you have a communist professor teaching our kids"
this specific type of phenomenon is a right wing conspiracy .. that the uber powerful government is creating fake tragedies just to take away everyone's god given right to shoot stuff Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2013, 05:35:35 pm what i find funny is that if you read the comments a you can find stuff like "this is what you get when you have a communist professor teaching our kids" thats completely false. The right wasn't behind the 911 conspiracy theorists do why this? Crazy has no boundaries. this specific type of phenomenon is a right wing conspiracy .. that the uber powerful government is creating fake tragedies just to take away everyone's god given right to shoot stuff Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Sunstroke on April 24, 2013, 05:56:21 pm James Tracy should be axed...we don't need that kind of person in a teaching position. The Jesus-stomp was the most misrepresented non-story I've seen recently... The prison deal was just students being stupid...who cares about stadium naming deals? Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Dave Gray on April 24, 2013, 05:59:58 pm thats completely false. The right wasn't behind the 911 conspiracy theorists do why this? Crazy has no boundaries. 9-11 conspiracies are from the far, far left...that's true. But the majority of the other crazy conspiracies are small government types on the far right. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Crazy has no boundaries. huh ..the main 911 truther stuff i remember hearing was alex jones and his radio program.. which is very right wing .. i'm not arguing your point .. i won't say my one example is evidence.. it's just an anecdote that gave me the right wing impression but yes, crazy comes in all flavors .. but obama's behind the boston bombings isn't a left wing idea .. they like obama Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Spider-Dan on April 25, 2013, 03:28:47 pm There were two different flavors of 9/11 truthers.
One was the left-wing version, which was that Bush intentionally ignored the warnings to facilitate an eventual invasion of Iraq. The other was the right-wing version, which was that it was orchestrated (possibly by The Jews) as part of a power grab. Both sides have some elements of the "that kind of crash wouldn't cause a building to collapse" (i.e. the gov't enhanced the carnage) angle, but it seems to me that the right-wing versions lean on that part much more heavily than the leftist versions. But of course. It's kind of funny that (rightfully so) the same people who are quick to point out Islamic extremist are not Muslims are the first ones to attack every crazy with a gun to being right wing. There is no middle ground with some of you. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: bsmooth on April 25, 2013, 05:19:05 pm It is one guy, who is off his rocker a little bit.
As for conspiracy theorists, the majority I have met and dealt with are either not all there, or not the brightest bulbs in the pack and lack strong cognitive thinking skills. Those who are more left think it is a cabal of corporate entities and rich bankers who are controlling the world...or trying too. Those who are more right think these are staged to get rid of the Constitution and put us under the control of a New World Order of one universal government. That is what I have repeatedly run into. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: bsmooth on April 25, 2013, 05:26:19 pm But of course. It's kind of funny that (rightfully so) the same people who are quick to point out Islamic extremist are not Muslims are the first ones to attack every crazy with a gun to being right wing. There is no middle ground with some of you. While there is validity to your point, I can speak from my personal experience that the majority of people I have dealt with who have extremist views and who own guns have all been...white, Christian(evangelical), and males. This does mean everyone who is a white Christian male is an extremist. It is the demographic I have run into the most online and in person over the years. The left extremists I have run into have been split between both males and females, but it seems as if the females are more rabid in their extremism and are very intolerant to viewpoints that differ from their own. Of course everyone else has different experiences. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on April 26, 2013, 10:35:15 am I would say there is a disnict difference in the 9/11 conspeircy nuts from left, right & muslim.
Basic Left wing consperience theory - Israel aquired knowldge of the attack prior to it happened. Israel warned the US. US ignored warning. At the request of GWB, Mosad agreed to cover-up the advance warning to keep GWB from being impeached. Basic Right wing conspericy theory - The US planned the attack to justify passing the Patriot Act. Basic Muslim conspericy theory - Israel planned the attack to get US to ally with Israel in its war on Muslims/Arabs. Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Dave Gray on April 26, 2013, 10:44:26 am You won't find me defending Islam as a peaceful religion with just a few nuts, like Christianity. Islam is not yet where Christianity is -- Christianity has its nuts but it largely moved past violence as a primary means of getting things done as of the Crusades. Islam has a long way to go.
Title: Re: FAU - the most dysfunctional college on the planet? Post by: Phishfan on April 27, 2013, 07:06:07 pm they like obama Somewhat. I know many liberals who think he is a pussy because he doesn't show enough leadersip. |
