Title: Ok what do we do NOW? What do we do NEXT?
Post by: BigDaddyFin on April 26, 2013, 06:22:07 am
I'm pretty glad about the way the offseason has gone so far.   We had a great free agent period, and now the draft is here.

We all argued at length that Miami could go in any number of directions in the draft (TE, CB, DE, OT, WR).

I'm going off Lindy's NFL Draft Magazine because I have my doubts about the USA Today one in my bathroom.

The run on offensive tackles in the first round pretty much knocked off all the guys I wanted or thought could come in right away and start, although by no means is the cupboard bare.

The problem is if you take an OT in the second round, what does that do for your CB and WR prospects?  Now you're into the third round without addressing two of the most glaring weaknesses on the team.  There's only a couple corners and WR's gone off the board so far, but that's going to change the farther you go down in this draft.

We got the kid from Oregon for a steal, really.  But I'm a little worried what that does for the rest of our picks and being able to get players we need to come in right away and contribute, ESPECIALLY if the Davone Bess trade rumors are true.

The other thing is what does this mean for the Brandon Albert trade if that second round pick is gone?  Did the Chiefs agree to our third round pick?  Our middle second round pick?  Do we REALLY want to trade Davone Bess and watch him turn into Wes Welker II?

It seems like more questions and answers at this point, and I think what happens with the rest of the draft is going to determine how our season goes.

Not a lot of questions at all in reality.  Bess isn't Welker by a long-shot. Trading your #4 WR is not a big deal. Especially when Binns and Matthews already on our roster can fill that role.

Get a LT maybe another CB, maybe another TE.....and this team is ready to go.

If you can't work out a trade for Albert, draft Watson in the second round.  This draft is deep with corners, so that can be addressed with one of the two third rounders.

I don't see WR as a need. It's a want.

I do see CB and RT as needs, but they have a 2nd and two 3rd's still. I would not trade them away for Albert, I would keep them and continue to take players that fill needs. If you can get a 3rd or 4th for Bess, then you might package a couple to move up a bit if there's someone you desire. 2nd and 3rd rounds are normally where you draft RT's and you can get CB's as low as 4th or 5th round. Stay the course, don't get desperate. The trade up was not an act of desperation, not when you consider what they gave up to get there, it was a strategic move. Will it work? Who knows, but at least the move made sense.

Agree on all fronts. WR is not a need. We just gave new contracts to Wallace, Gibson, Hartline. Another WR is a luxury at this point. OT and CB are needs. TE would be nice but not a necessity at this point in reality.

Even though there's been little to no mention of them in this draft, I wouldn't mind seeing us add another running back for depth - it couldn't hurt anyway. That said, I'm really hoping Miller takes a huge step up, and/or Thomas stops resembling a certain #33 of ours back in the early nineties. ;)

I don't think Miami looks RB till Round 5 or later. We will see though, maybe someone they like falls and they snatch him up in Rd 3 or 4.

Last year this time when Jeff Ireland kept saying we are fine at WR we are fine at WR and he didn't address WR at all really till very late in the draft..................WELL, last night and this morning Ireland is saying we are fine at CB we are fine at CB......might be a smokescreen or it might be Ireland being honest like he was last year and doesn't view CB as a need. We will see I guess

Just like with anything. He doesn't view it as a priority until he's proven wrong. At least with a solid front 7, that will help to mask the CB problem. But its still a problem. Just like the tackle situation.

I'd like to take care of this left tackle situation.  It seems like we all think we're sending a pick to the chiefs, but until it's done, it's not done.  I'd like to make that happen first.  A 3rd this year would be great.

Then, TE is a big need, as is anything in the secondary.

Funny thing was KC's GM Dorsey was calling today and Ireland wouldn't answer. Dorsey sent one of his staff members to do an interview on ESPN radio and say this in an effort to reach out to Ireland since he wouldn't answer his calls...ha ha!

^^That's what I'm talking about. You want to play chicken? Ok keep him.

Then, TE is a big need

I'm with Hugh Hefner...you can always use another good looking young tight end.

2 picks in Rd 3. Would think they go OT and WR/TE who can work the middle of the field

No idea what we will be doing about LT now, but the Chiefs are paying Albert $10 Million for a rebuilding season and then losing him for nothing. It isn't officially done yet, but I think both GM's made a mistake. I don't want Martin at LT.

Still think Miami sends them next years 2nd rounder for him when all is said and done. Might not happen till next week though...lol

I am sure next year's 2nd rounder will be much worse than this year's. Maybe as the Chiefs get closer to camp and realize they are either paying $10 Million to a LT out of position or drafted a LT #1 overall and playing him elsewhere they will pull the trigger on the trade.

I gotta believe this isn't just about what KC want's, it's also about what Albert wants. He's not worth a long term contract.

Fins and Albert have agreed to a contract. It's all about the trade

I haven't heard that out of Miami.

it was reported. Miami just took an OT. So trade looks to be off now anyway

We have so far a TE, a guy who's probably an OG, CB, LB, DE.  The LB pick puzzles me a little except the guy plays outside and it appears the only reason he slid down that far is because of his size.  I'm sure if he's there as both special teams and to push Misi.

I would think at this point its BPA but with the emphasis on WR and Safety if its close grades between a few guys

WR Swope or OT Quessenberry for the next pick...
