Title: How much do you like "Outside the Lines" type stuff? Post by: Dave Gray on June 24, 2013, 10:54:13 am I am having a hard time phrasing the question, but what I'm trying to say is this: Because I am known to be a big HEAT fan around the office, people are surprised that I'm not at the victory parade downtown today. It's weird -- as much as I enjoy sports, I don't really like the pomp and circumstance or human interest around it.
I have no interest in victory celebration type stuff, including parades. I also don't really care about individual achievements after a career, like Hall of Fame ceremonies. And I don't have an attachment to players after they're done playing, other than a general appreciation. But I'm not one of those players that "want Zach Thomas to get a ring" on another team. I also don't have interest in human interest stuff. While they're nice stories, I don't want to watch a special about a guy going back to his high school to help disabled youths or whatever. I have a great interest in the actual sport, but not a lot outside of it. I think that's why I so much prefer team sports, because they rely less on how much you actually like the individual. I really enjoy the sotry behind the story though. Real Sports and Outside the lines are quality from my point of view.

Post by: Sunstroke on June 24, 2013, 11:06:20 am Like you, I'm not so much into the pomp of parades or that type of stuff, and while I'm happy to see that athletes are doing things for the less fortunate, I have no real interest in seeing a show about their charitable endeavors. The "Outside the Lines" stuff that I DO like are the player history/background stuff. Stories about how a player got his start, things he did on the way to becoming a star player that helped him become a star player, that sort of thing. I also really like watching offseason prep stuff, like training camp reports, player workout "inside" stuff, etc... I find that sort of stuff helps me understand the players better. |
