Title: This is why I slept through the second game yesterday
Post by: Phishfan on September 16, 2013, 11:01:11 am

The local CBS affiliate ran a scroll yesterday apologizing for having to show the Jaguars game on TV. I stayed home to watch Miami rather than going anywhere yesterday. When it was over I was pretty tired and took a nap rather than watch the crapfest on CBS (the Freeman led Bucs don't inspire me either) so I slept through the second games yesterday. I really hope the Jags move to LA.

According to MikeO, they can't leave the city.  Their lease is ironclad.

^^^ Ironclad is a bit overstated

If the Jacksonville Jaguars’ prospective new owner wants to move the team to a new city before 2030, he’d have to pay the city millions of dollars to get out of its lease for EverBank Field.

The team could avoid paying a lot of those penalties — which could total more than $100 million — if it lost money one year and was below the NFL’s revenue average the following two years.

The team has not publicly disclosed its revenue, but Jacksonville is one of the smallest and least profitable National Football League markets, so the latter condition is likely already the case.

That article was written two years ago.   Since then I've heard zero talk of moving the team.  I can't blame you though.  Checkdown Chad looked just as bad as Blaine Gabbert.  Might as well shoot for the top draft spot and grab Teddy Bridgewater or Taj Boyd.

Forgot the exact year but its a while before they can move, like 2029 or something. There is a loophole though, where the Jags can play HALF their home-games in a different city if they want (ie London, Berlin...etc) as long as half the homegames are played in Jax and the team name stays "Jacksonville"

You will see that happen before they move.

Jax went in "default" on their lease last year hoping the city would terminate it after Jax paid the fine, the city didn't terminate it though and didn't ask for Jax to pay the fine they let them slide...cause they want to keep the team. The team is stuck there unless a miracle happens or a lot of money is passed around to make the city very happy.

The owner has not publicly mentioned moving them and I did not imply that he had. Jacksonville is not able to support the team, especially a team as bad as the Jags are. If this trend continues, it would be very hard for an owner to not consider moving eventually. I just wish they would move.

The Jags did not default on the lease. The city sent them a letter before reading the lease amendments closely enough to discover the city was incorrect.

I watched Bucs/Saints game but would have liked to catch the Broncos/Giants game.  I feel bad for Local 6 as they are losing money by having to show Jags games. Especially when it costs them the Dolphins game ... their ratings take a huge dump.
