Title: Anyone watching the final episodes of Breaking Bad?
Post by: Phishfan on September 17, 2013, 05:21:36 pm
I just picked up on this show recently and watched every episode this past year in order to be ready when the final episodes starting. it is amazing to me to watch Walt's progression. At first he is a guy you feel for but he really has turned into a complete maniac that I now hope for the worst for. I cannot wait to see how they wrap up the series.

I can't believe how good this show has been this season.  It's always good, but the ending is especially great.

I've been talking about it a lot at work today, because I just watched the latest one last night.

[SPOILER]

I read the scene with Walt/Skylar on the phone as Walt giving Skylar that one last gift....he knew the cops were on the phone and he bitched her out, not because he was really blaming her, but because he wanted to give her something to use in court to stay out of jail.  He knew he was going to be on the lam, so it was all a way to set Skylar free.

Yea, I thought he was up to something as well. Walt has been too smart throughout the series to not know they were listening.

We're finally talking about Breaking Bad.

[Spoilers Galore!]

I agree with you Dave. He had to know they were listening. He basically gave a confession on the phone. I think it was to clear Skylar and give her a useable defense for the future.

Am I the only one that wants Walt, Jr to die? Yes? Ok then.

^^^ I wish Flynn would die too

So, we have now had the series finale.

I'm fine with the ending. I really had no idea what to expect heading into it. What did everyone else think?

I thought it was the perfect ending.

Breaking Bad ending > Dexter ending.

Great ending for the best show on TV.

I thought the finale was perfect across the board. (I still wish Flynn would've died, though.)

I started watching Breaking Bad this past weekend...just finished season one this morning. Fairly fucking intense, and more than a little addictive.

^ Yes, and it only continues to evolve and get better.  Never have I seen a show that just refuses to get stagnant.

It gets much, much better. Seriously.

I'm still mildly hungover from the finale.  My only complaint:  Marie lived.  I know she was never in any real danger, but come on, she needed killin'.

I was upset that Walt, Jr. lived. Fuck him.

I don't agree with a lot of your posts, but I'm behind you 100% on this one. Fuck Flynn.

Fuck you guys for the spoilers...right in your earholes. ;)

I am now halfway through season 3...and suffering from mild sleep deprivation here.  Walter just agreed to go back to cooking in the new lab that Gustavo set up. Skylar is fucking Ted, Jesse's sober, but still a douchenozzle, and Saul is rapidly becoming my favorite part of the supporting cast. Walter Jr. is still a good kid, so at this point, I have no desire to see him die.

OK, enough time posting. I need another hit.

Fuck...

I also basically marathoned the series by watching it all this year. I'm glad I did because waiting five years for it all to happen would have been too much waiting.

As for Saul, word is he will be getting a spinoff that is pre-Heisenberg. I have a feeling it might be a good series if done correctly.

Saul is the ultimate comic relief in a raging war zone of anger, violence and bloodshed...I'd give his spin-off a shot on general principle.

Skylar just broke out the "gambling system" excuse to her sister to help justify Walter helping pay Hank's med bills. I immediately upgraded Skylar from "hope the cheating bitch gets drowned in a barrel of ether" to "I guess the cheating ho can live."

I am still massively pissed off about Combo getting kid-popped last season. He was my favorite of the flunkies.

My jury is still our on Jesse. The dude is still a douchenozzle, but at least he's no longer a junkie douchenozzle.

Not sure how I feel about Gustavo yet. He's a manipulative little weasel, but I like the "restaurant manager/nerd turned drug kingpin" character.

I am soooo glad that Hank got the best of Tuco's cousins. Those dudes were scary as fuck.

Biggest regret about the show so far...the amount of dialogue in Spanish with no subtitles. What, I've gotta learn a new language to fully appreciate the show?

Holy, shit, Holy shit and Holy fucking shit!!

Just finished season 4...Gustavo is blown to bits, the lab is blown to bits and my mind is blown to bits.

The fade out on the Lilies of the Valley plant in Walter's back yard still has goosebumps on my arms 15 minutes after the episode ended.

Holy shit!!

Yes, and it only continues to evolve and get better.  Never have I seen a show that just refuses to get stagnant.

Dave Gray, the Patron Saint of Understatements.

Holy shit!!

I'm going to give it a few days before I dive into season 5. This seems like a perfect place to take a break.

I swear, when Gustavo adjusted his tie there, right before he fell to the floor, my mind had the following thought:

"WTF?? Don't tell me he's some undead fucking zombie druglord..."

Now that the series is over, I can look back on two things that didn't really work for me.  Either they were logical stretches or they didn't have payoff and wasted time because they didn't ultimately matter.

The first is the plane crash in season 2.  It was previewed in the opening several times, made to be a big thing, but it was so loosely tied to anything that, even though the concept of what it was conveying made sense, it took about a season to tell that.  And though it was supposed to be a big deal, you really had no connection to anyone who died in the crash.

The second thing was Marie's shop-lifting.  It was a weird character quirk, but she wasn't really an integral character and once they moved on from it, it was forgotten.

^^^ I can honestly say I have spent the first 4 seasons waiting in sincere anticipation for the scene where Marie is sitting at home, and some drug cartel hit man walks in the room and puts a bullet squarely between her eyes. Never in the history of television has a supporting character grated on my nerves as completely as Marie does. Her voice is fingernails on the chalkboard; her bug-eyed "not quite there" stare is aluminum foil between my teeth. If there truly is a TV God, she will die a horrible death in season five. If it could be Mike that pulls the trigger, that would be a bonus.

I also hear ya on the plane crash... I kept expecting for it to have a little something more to do with anything important, but it never did.

One other thing that slightly bugs me about the whole Gustavo character. They kept dropping not-so-subtle hints about "who he really is" being such a huge secret. Did I miss something, or did he die without that secret ever seeing the light of day?

The whole "I'm gonna give it a few days before diving in to season 5" plan lasted, oh, about an hour. Then I was like "I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT'S NEXT!!" and started watching season 5. A marathon session later, and I'm down to the final 3 episodes. The last episode ended with Hank and Gomez shooting it out with Jack and his crew in the desert, while Walter was screaming for them to stop while cuffed in the back seat of the jeep. This is just fucking crazy stuff, and taking the few minutes necessary to post here is already making me shake a little. If I had to describe this show, and was only allowed to use one word to do it, that word would be:  Compelling

I think I'm going to rewatch Season 5. Just because it's awesome.

The ending of Breaking Bad was absolutely perfect...though I feel a bit emotionally drained now.

Maybe watching it again will help.
