Title: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Brian Fein on November 05, 2013, 05:00:35 pm I think its funny that, earlier in the season, Dave and I were complaining about lack of national media attention. Now, I just want this to die. I feel like its completely overblown and distracting and off-field issues need to be handled off the field.
What needs to happen to make this story go away? I think at a minimum, they need to get Martin back into camp. Is that even possible? I would say even get him in front of a podium for a press conference and let them ask him the questions. Continued silence results in continued digging by investigative media, which leads to 3-times-per-day headlines on PFT and ESPN about the next discovery. Sadly, I don't think this is going to happen and I think this story is going to be a huge distraction for the rest of this season, possibly beyond. When do we get back to football, please? Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 05, 2013, 05:06:59 pm What needs to happen to make this story go away? Two things: 1) Fix the problem 2) Time Same thing that was required to make the Lisa Olson story go away. Nobody talks about Lisa Olson anymore. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: masterfins on November 05, 2013, 05:10:20 pm Martin is done as a Dolphin. No way he returns to this team. To answer your question, Tom Brady or Rex Ryan need to get caught with a hooker(s), preferably under age.
Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: CF DolFan on November 05, 2013, 05:15:54 pm I think Martin was officially removed from the roster today. Legally he won't be able to return this year. I'm sure if they can find him a new home next year they will.
Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Pappy13 on November 05, 2013, 05:41:41 pm I think at a minimum, they need to get Martin back into camp. I'll be shocked if Martin returns to the Dolphins. I don't believe for a second that his problems were simply a result of Incognito or that removing Incognito from the team will fix his problems.Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Landshark on November 05, 2013, 06:08:28 pm Both Martin and Incognito are done in Miami and possibly in the NFL. I can't fathom another coach taking a chance with either of them.
Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MikeO on November 05, 2013, 06:33:31 pm Come Monday around midnight when the TB game is over (win or lose) this story will die. Both players are done for the season, and it will be back to football. But another 6 days of this in the media unfortunately.

Always be careful what you wish for. You may just get it. The only way this goes away is for people to feel they know the whole story (so much is still up in the air) and for time to pass. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Tenshot13 on November 05, 2013, 06:55:31 pm Both Martin and Incognito are done in Miami and possibly in the NFL. I can't fathom another coach taking a chance with either of them. Indy would take Martin in a heartbeat. Heck, half of his old teammates and coaching staff are there. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MikeO on November 05, 2013, 06:58:01 pm Indy would take Martin in a heartbeat. Heck, half of his old teammates and coaching staff are there. And as I said yesterday, that's where he will end up after the season. Trade him away for a late round pick and just move on from this Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Because he’s still on the active roster. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Alwaysdullfan on November 05, 2013, 07:28:25 pm In my opinion I think this story got blown out of proportion way too much. Even tho Incognito has a bad reputation I dont think he meant anything that bad by it as the media is making it to be. Obviously when he said "ill kill you" in that email he obviously wasnt gonna Kill the guy. im sure stuff like this happens in almost every sport, every locker room. some bigger some smaller, maybe he shouldnt have said all that and maybe it went on for too long,
----> But im sure if this was really as serious as the media is making it out to be, it would DEF been stopped by other players or coaches soon as any1 heard about this. Maybe Incognito was just too tough on a guy, maybe he wasnt the only one but also maybe Martin handled it lil childish by just walking out on his teamates. If it bothered him so much why not say something to the coaches other players. Im sure he has friends on the team. Therefore just in MY OPINION I dont think it was a serious case of bullying as its turning out to be. We dont kno the whole story but everyone is automatically taking Martin's side bcuz of Richie Incognito's past. Personally I feel it wasnt as serious as now the media made it out to be Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: BeefStewert on November 05, 2013, 08:14:30 pm I think this may have to do with the NFL's (or Dolphins') inability to accept a gay player. If this comes out, the Dolphins need to do some damage control and have a major embrace the gay community approach - like Eminem did with Elton John at the Grammys. It will get spun off as a player and his team coming to terms with differences in sexuality.
BTW, I have no idea if Martin is gay. I just think there is more to this than simple bullying. And the sexuality piece logically fits. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: el diablo on November 05, 2013, 08:38:19 pm If Martin couldn't let his teammates know what was going on, I don't think you'll see him at the podium addressing this. I also feel that his days as a Dolphin are done (thankfully). I also don't see anyone trading for him. Especially Indy. His coaching staff may be there, but so his their franchise player. And I certainly don't see them trusting Martin with that.
The only thing that removes this story from the frontlines, is time. Although I would love to see the story where Brady & Rex Ryan get caught sharing the underage hooker. Unlikely & sick, yet mildly entertaining. Because of who's involved. I do not in any way condone underage prostitution. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? If this comes out, the Dolphins need to do some damage control and have a major embrace the gay community approach You've seen the new logo, right? Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on November 05, 2013, 09:13:53 pm ^^^^ They can't trade him this year. The deadline has passed.
Unless the Dolphins are really want this to drag out they will pay him for the remainder of the year. Will he play again? If he wants to, why not. All he needs is a team with solid leadership that values his services and winning over nonsense. Could Brady, Peyton, Rodgers or Brees address their respective team mates and say, "Jonathan is a good solid player, that doesn't put up with childish pranks. I am here to win football games. So is Jonathan. If you are here to act like you are in 6th grade, play the prank on someone else. But leave him alone" Is some team going to give you a high draft pick for him? No. But a late round draft pick in a trade at the end of the season or as a FA or off waivers I could see him playing again. It would work. Tannehill, Geno Smith, EJ Manuel and some others -- maybe not. Incognito will be suspended by the league. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Spider-Dan on November 05, 2013, 09:46:15 pm If Martin turns out to be gay, this will be a firestorm the likes of which have not been seen in a while.
However, I think that's just speculation. Not every football player is a mindless beast who solves every problem by punching it, and no one would even think of asking, say, a QB to solve his problems that way. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: BeefStewert on November 05, 2013, 10:18:50 pm I think that is pure speculation. But if it turns out Martin is gay and that is what this is about, Miami is in for a world of hurt PR-wise. Absolutely. It is pure speculation and I don't claim otherwise. My experience with my schoolmates that ended up being gay was that they got overly teased and bullied. Not so much because everyone knew they were gay, but because they were different while they were coming to grips with their sexualitiy. All I'm saying is that logically looking at the situation, I wouldn't be surprised if this the ultimate development. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MikeO on November 06, 2013, 12:05:07 am Incognito will be suspended by the league. Not so sure about that. He won't play again this year for Miami. And I don't see the league adding another suspension on top of that carrying over into next year. I mean if Riley Cooper is playing for the Eagles this year I don't see how they can suspend Incognito. I may be wrong in the end but just how I see it now. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: EKnight on November 06, 2013, 08:46:32 am Did Riley Cooper threaten physical harm on a teammate and his family? It's not the same thing.
I know what WON'T make the story go away- local sports radio here is reporting that Cognito's father is ranting on Internet chat boards about the situation, and calling both Martin and Pouncey drug users and racial epithets. Maybe someone can find a link substantiating this if I don't. -EK Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MaineDolFan on November 06, 2013, 09:27:35 am Incognito could be facing legal issues out of this. I think folks are glazing over this issue. This isn't something which will "go away" for him. He very well may have broken actual laws.
I don't see how Martin ever plays in Miami again, but he will play again. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: MikeO on November 06, 2013, 09:34:19 am I don't see how Martin ever plays in Miami again, but he will play again. Martin is through in Miami and Martin will have trouble finding another team. Gonna be tough for him to be trusted in any locker-room (right or wrong.) Will be interesting to see if a franchise takes a chance on him. I think Indy is the logical choice but we will see. Right or wrong I think that's reality for him. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: CF DolFan on November 06, 2013, 09:52:22 am Incognito could be facing legal issues out of this. I think folks are glazing over this issue. This isn't something which will "go away" for him. He very well may have broken actual laws. Do you really see any teammates rallying around this guy? C'mon ... his own friends aren't even standing up for him. He may get picked up but he will never be a part of a team. He will fail miserably. I don't see how Martin ever plays in Miami again, but he will play again. I can't help but think about a crying Manny Wright when I think of Martin. Those guys are not cut out for the NFL. Title: Re: What will it take to make this story go away? Post by: Phishfan on November 06, 2013, 09:58:38 am I can't help but think about a crying Manny Wright when I think of Martin. Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on November 06, 2013, 11:20:18 am If Mike Vick can kill and torture animals, Donte Stallworth and Ray Lewis can kill people and they all have made a return to the NFL......rest assured the "Bully" Incognito will be back as well. Probably not with Miami but he will be back. He was a Pro Bowl offensive lineman.
This should have been handled in house period. Once the media gets wind it becomes a circus that takes months to go away!!!! Eventually it will be old news.....unfortunately not for awhile. I for one am sick of hearing about it. ::) |
