Title: Thor 2
Post by: mecadonzilla on November 08, 2013, 09:00:55 pm
Saw the new Thor flick today, and I must admit, I'm a little underwhelmed, although, that might be due to my high expectations.  It certainly wasn't bad, but it just didn't grab me.  Oh, well.  Will still see it at least once more in the theaters just to make sure I didn't miss anything.  Tom Hiddleston's Loki is fantastic and makes this movie worth watching alone.  Also, this movie contained my favorite Stan Lee cameo of the whole bunch so far.

I'm actually more excited about the scene after the initial closing credit sequence.  We are totally set up for some hot Infinity Gem action!

I agree, it was a bit underwhelming. It was good, but far from fantastic. And since I have no idea about any of the comic storylines, I was totally lost with the last scene. I shrugged and thought, well, I guess I'll find out later!

I literally just walked in the door from seeing Thor 2 in 3D tonight. I thought the movie was totally badass, though part of it might be the fact that it was my first-ever 3D movie experience. Loved the action scenes, the little comedic splashes were about perfect (hanging Mjolnir on the coat rack was classic), and the overall awesomeness of flipping from world to world during the convergence was extremely cool. Definitely a movie I'll watch several more times.

Definitely agree with Mec about the upcoming Collector storyline. Benicio del Toro as the Collector? Can I get a "Hell Yeah!" from the congregation?

The more previews I see for the next Captain America movie, the more I'm craving it as well...

Yeah, I was pretty excited about seeing Benecio.  I also loved Captain America's brief cameo in the movie.  It had a lot of really good comedic moments all throughout, and the final wormhole filled final battle was unique.  I can definitely appreciate it.  I cannot say enough good things about Tom Hiddleston/Loki.

Thundergod, here's the story of the Infinity stuff.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity_Gems  AND  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Infinity_Gauntlet

So we found out the Tesseract is an Infinity Stone/Gem.  It must be the one that allows for teleportation (purple).  The Aether might be the power stone (basing my opinion mostly on its color).  When you get all 6 together, their wielder becomes more or less omnipotent because he gets the combined powers of each gem/stone.  Purely speculation here, but Guardians of the Galaxy will probably deal with at least one of them, making way for Thanos (revealed at the end of the 1st Avengers movie leading the Chitari) to work on gathering them all for the 3rd Avengers installment.

Seriously mec, you were not satisfied with a movie (underwhelmed by definition means you were not satisfied) and you plan to pay to see it again??? Normally saying I do not mean offense usually brings something offensive behind it but I honestly do not think you would take offense. You are a huge comic book nerd.

Yeah...this made me giggle.

I didn't hate it.  I just had huge expectations that I feel were not met.  The biggest reason why I'll be watching it again is my wife and daughter haven't had a screening yet.  Kiddo was sick yesterday and was extremely disappointed she couldn't go, so it'll bring me much joy to watch t with her.  Plus, I think I'm gonna try 3D when we all go out to make it a different sensory experience altogether.  The drive-in might be showing it too, which is always great fun.

Been reading my old comic stash to kiddo for bedtime stories for years now.  She'll be begging for me to take her as soon as her fever goes down.  My wife is harboring a crush on Chris Hemsworth, so she'll probably be begging too.  LOL

This movie made me realize how much of the Avengers was riding on Tom Hiddleston.  I had always thought Robert Downey was carrying most of it, but Hiddleston has done a really good job with his role.

Without Loki, Thor 2 would have pretty much been garbage.

P.S. I don't think the Aether is an Infinity stone.  It was not captured.

Is it wrong that I find Hiddleston really, really attractive? He's adorable.

I saw an extended video of Hiddleston from one of the comiccons where he took the stage as Loki in front of a huge crowd and just played it up to the hilt. I became a Hiddleston fan before that video was over.

God bless a man who can embrace the villain's role and make you cheer for the bad guy. ;D

Not great, but a fun and enjoyable movie

Just saw it. A little campy at times, but I liked it overall.

I just watched it.  Strangely, it was sillier than I was expecting, but I almost liked the comedic moments more than when it was trying to be bad-ass.  My favorite moment, by far, was the Cap moment, but especially because "Loki" is playing a douchier version of him.  I LOLed.  I thought that it was a little bit slow to get started and the voiceover that starts these Thor movies is a lot less engaging than something that shows you instead of tells you.

Overall, fun -- but it's really just an OK movie, made better by the company it keeps and because you know it happens in a larger universe.  Also, Loki is incredible, as everyone has said.

Nope.  'Tis one of the stones according to Marvel movie uberlord & executive producer, Kevin Feige. http://screenrant.com/thor-2-dark-world-mid-post-credits-button-scenes-explained/all/1/

Kevin Feige: I don’t know that I would spell it out that clearly, necessarily, but certainly fans of the comics could surmise that all of this is leading somewhere. That Joss’ decision to have Thanos turn around and smile to the audience at the end of ‘Avengers’ – it was always the plan to show that the tesseract was indeed an infinity stone, as was the Aether. A lot of that will tie first into ‘Guardians of The Galaxy’ which comes out next year and then where it goes from there we’ll see… I would not necessarily attribute them based on colors, because you’re close but you’re not 100% right on what each one is. …

Finally saw this last night with, Fau. I thought it was great and grinned through the whole thing. I loved Loki and want him to be my evil boyfriend. We'd destroy the world while wearing fierce outfits.

My wife loves these types of movies.  I hate them.  I pray to God Shula every night that I won't get dragged to it.  I think she is privately still mad at me for falling asleep during the last Superman movie.   ;D
