Title: Jake Long tears ACL and MCL
Post by: MikeO on December 25, 2013, 12:16:42 am
Took a little bit longer than expected but Jake Long broke down and this time its very serious. Tore his right ACL and MCL.  He is due $8 mill next year and probably won't be ready for the start of the season.

And he can't have surgery for 4-6 weeks because they need the MCL to heal before they can go to work on the ACL.  It's gonna be a long road back.

Jake Long=Tony Boselli . Career paths are almost exactly the same.  Can't be depended on to stay healthy.

They got a solid year out of him, he was very good. Next year....we'll see.

Ireland made the right choice to let him go, it's just too much money for a player who broke down a lot towards the end of his contract. Just because we had nothing to replace him with doesn't mean it was the wrong move.

They could've found a solid replacement.  That's where Ireland needs to be held accountable.

Problem is they are on the hook for $20 mill guaranteed with him and the Rams o-line was poor for the most part this year. Long has a $4 mill signing bonus if he is on the team roster the first game of 2014... don't be shocked if the Rams just kick him to the curb this offseason and just write it off as a bad signing and move on from Jake.

I would have liked to see Long resign with us, but I wasn't overly upset that we didn't resign him.  I was looking for an orange Long jersey for like 2 years, but kept talking myself out of buying one for some reason.  Very happy I didn't get it :)
