Title: TDMMC March Madness - CULTURE - Sod Cemetary vs. Jump Around
Post by: Dave Gray on March 28, 2014, 09:52:19 am
Since 1962, FSU has been taking pieces of the opposing team's field and bringing it home to bury in their own "sod cemetery", commemorating some of the biggest games.

Starting in 1993 via the Men's Varsity Swim Team, then passed through frat houses at midnight parties at the stadium, until it was officially started in 1998, Wisconsin Badger home games feature the House of Pain song "Jump Around" between the 3rd and 4th quarters.  The jumping fans shake the stadium.

"Jump Around" has a soft spot for me. I was in college when it came out and we use to jump around whenever it was played. The song is infectous and if you don't at least bob your head something is terribly wrong with you. That said, I've heard it played at many games so it loses points for uniqueness.

I have a thing for unique and weird traditions.  The Sod thing is pretty friggin' weird.

The Sod Cemetary sounds like the title of a bad Druid horror movie or something, but it is still a more unique tradition that jumping around to a pop song.
