Overruled. A mistrial cannot occur just because the defendant was picking up chicks.

I think you need to find a new way to entertain yourself as well. Just because you enjoy it doesn't mean it's appropriate. If you have the consent and full willingness of other person that's a different story, but random strangers? I completely understand his reaction.

I thought we had already established that your practice of lifting women into the air was considered creepy by the general public. The fact that you are now just selecting random women makes it seems a bit criminal.

Uhm...I'd be careful picking up random women. I'm pretty sure that can be seen as assault. I would be absolutely freaked out if a guy I did not know randomly picked me up. I would go into full on panic mode thinking I'm about to be kidnapped or sexually assaulted. You have GOT to stop doing that shit.

I want to know if the phrase "picking up" in the original post is used in the literal interpretation, or the figurative.  From the sound of the responses, it sounds literal.

Were you picking up the random stranger, as in wrapping your arms around her and physically lifting her feet off the ground? 

Or, were you speaking to her in flirtatious tone to attempt to acquire her name and phone number as a prologue to a potential future encounter?

This makes a big difference, as I've heard the term (and initially interpreted this post) to be used as in "Hey, i was trying to pick up this chick at the bar..." and don't interpret that as physical altercations.

Given his history of literally lifting women off the ground, I expect he did just that.

I'm fully expecting that in the near future we will be seeing a thread titled "I was maced by a random female stranger today" 

Let me say a few things right here and now

1) It was literal.

2) I always ask before I do that sort of thing.  I ALWAYS respect people's boundaries and ALWAYS have full consent and willingness of the other person.

3) I honestly couldn't care less if you people find it creepy.

4) I have done it all my life including the times when I was having success with women

5) It's actually quite fun.

6) I am a smaller guy so it's fun when they don't think I can do it and I surprise them

7) I like to see myself like Shawn Thornton when he fights.  He will take on anybody regardless of their size and weight.  I'm just like that myself, only with lifting.

You can't have this both ways.  You regularly come on here and ask us for advice about how to interact with women and why you can't find a girlfriend.  Yet, you volunteer information that clearly comes off as freakish.  If your early interactions with people involve picking them up, don't expect them (or anyone else) to find you anything other than a weirdo.

I don't do this as early interactions, of course.

You should really stop this behavior before you get yourself into legal trouble or someone physically hurts you.

You said it was a random stranger. It can't be any earlier of an interaction.

^^ Have you tried focusing your efforts perhaps at the gym?  You can pick up lots of stuff there.  As many times as you want.  I'm being totally serious.  You said its fun - maybe you'd enjoy weightlifting.

Not trying to be funny or negative but I don't think he does this because he likes picking things up. It seems like he's trying to pick up some attention from people.

You are going to get into trouble. Someone is going to look over and see you physically assaulting his wife or girlfriend, and since you are a random stranger, assume the worse.
It sounds like a desperate cry for attention..."hey everyone look at me, I am so small. yet soo strong."
Take up Olympic lifting. Lot of really small dudes who are really strong.

Please, please, please stop doing this. You are going to get yourself hurt or in trouble. Like bsmooth said, someone is going to see you doing this to one of their girlfriends/spouse/friend and hurt you. OR, someone is going to press charges on you.

A lot of times women - particularly younger women - will go along with something like this because it's such an odd request it catches them off guard and they're not comfortable setting boundaries. STOP DOING IT!!! It's weird and creepy.

I would like to say that I don't do this because I am desperate for attention.  I have done this even when I have been dating people and getting lots of sex.  In fact, I finally got hooked up again last March.

But I do understand what you guys are saying.

I understand that, but you realize that means you are trying to show off your new found strength. There is nothing really wrong with it, I would just try and stick to your friends as much as possible.
I did similar things with my friends and people I knew well. I never did something with a complete stranger.
I have a friend whose nickname is Smurfette. One night at the bar, she asked me how was the weather up there (she is 4'11 and I am 6'2), so I picked her up by her armpits and lifted her above my head so she could see above the crowd. She loved it, and everyone, including her boyfriend, laughed.
Those are the situations I would suggest you look for. I worked security in bars for almost 10 years, and things that are innocent sober, can be misinterpreted easily when alcohol is involved.

I do stick to my friends mostly, but if the opportunity presents itself I'm an equal opportunity picker upper.

I have loved it since I was a volunteer at a youth camp when I was sixteen.  I was showing card tricks to a 10 year old girl, a Russian immigrant who reminded me of myself, so full of life and energy.

She offered to show me one and told me I would easily figured it out, but I could not.

"I'm so happy I have to hug you," she exclaimed.  She ran over to me and grabbed me.  I lifted her over my head.  She was delighted and amazed.  I would do that to her for the rest of the time at camp and she would love it.
 

Sorry, but this whole reply is creepy as fuck. If you see an opportunity to pick up a stranger you do? If some rando picked me up out of the blue he would get maced in the face or stabbed in the eye with a key.

Dude gets creepier and creepier all the time.  He's about two stories away from full blown psycho status. 

As much as I would recommend avoiding the whole picking up of strangers, it goes eleventy billion times more when it comes to children. Picking up adults without their permission can get your ass kicked. Picking up and handling children without their parents' permission can land your ass in jail.

Actually that applies to adults as well.  Lifting a person off the ground without their consent would almost certainly be considered assault and battery by almost any court, a misdemeanor crime.

Without a doubt. My friend (about 28) coaches a little league baseball team and the kids can't hit a ball worth a crap. So he told me after all of the instructions, all he could think of doing was standing behind the kid and put his arms around him to show him how to swing the bat. When he was telling me I was thinking that he'll probably get yelled out or removed from coaching because of how people are these days. A for sure, he got a talking to by the fellow coaches about lines that shouldn't be crossed even though it isn't written anywhere.

Agreed  He does this with children he is going to need a good atty just to keep him off the sex offenders list.

With adults he will ONLY go to jail.  Or get the crap beating out him.  And if the girl's boyfriend beat the shit out of him, the other person will have an extremely valid "defense of others" defense while dolphins4life gets arrested for the original assault and battery.   

Bottom line.  Regardless of who he does it to eventually he will wind up in jail or the hospital or both.

Anyway, just because a 10-year-old likes to be picked up (like a child), that doesn't mean that adults do.  It is a bad idea.

Not that this would ever happen, but...

I think if someone came by and just picked me up off the ground, I'd be swinging for the fences.  Of course, if someone was strong enough to pick me up, its probably not the kind of person I'd want to fight.  But, at the same time, I can't imagine a situation where it would ever be OK, even to go up to a random woman and start with a line like "Do you mind if I pick you up?"

What ever happened to "Hi, what's your name?"

YES....that was basically my exact though. I read his reply and seriously got the vapors.

At this point, I would advise dude to quit posting these personal life type threads and stick to football and off topic. Hell, if I was him, I would ask Dave to delete all of my questionable threads and delete my account and re register. This kind of shit could be used against him at some point. All of these random, strange, and "help me" type threads wouldn't help him much in a legal situation.

And for god's sake. Quit touching people unless they touch you first or it's rather obvious that they want you to (ie, intimate moments)
