Title: TDMMC March Madness - HISTORY - Cameron Crazies vs. Touching Testudo Post by: Dave Gray on April 15, 2014, 12:47:02 pm Wiki: The Cameron Crazies are Duke University's basketball student section, which can hold approximately 1,200 occupants.[1][2] The section, also deemed "The Zoo" by Al McGuire for their humorous pranks, and "The Sixth-Man" by Duke Men's basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski, is known for being "rude, crude and lewd – as well as cleverly funny," stated Frank Vehorn of the Virgianian-Pilot. The Crazies are famous for painting their bodies blue and white or wearing outrageous outfits. They start their cheering as soon as warm-ups begin. Throughout the game, the Crazies jump up and down when the opposing team has possession of the ball and yell cheers in unison at focal points of the game.
Wiki: [Re: a statue of the school's terrapin mascot] Some passersby consider it good luck to rub the statue, which has given its nose a shiny appearance. During finals week, students traditionally leave "offerings" to the statue for good luck.[136][137][138][139] In 1992 a duplicate statue was placed at Byrd Stadium, where the football team touch it for good luck as they pass by before games. Additional Testudo statues now sit outside of the Gossett Team House near the stadium; Comcast Center, the school's basketball arena; the Riggs Alumni Center; and in the lobby of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union.[138] Title: Re: TDMMC March Madness - HISTORY - Cameron Crazies vs. Touching Testudo Post by: Phishfan on April 15, 2014, 01:53:25 pm I have a hard time voting for Duke but I have to acknowledge the enthusiasm of that student section.
