I see people talk about it, but I've never done it.  I feel that even if something sucks, I need to see it through.  What have you actually paid for and left part-way through?  And how long did you make it?

I only go to the theater if I know I really want to see a movie. I've never walked out on one because of that. I don't take chances with the movie theater.

Star Trek: Insurrection.

Went with my dad and uncle, we left about 30min in.  (I had already seen it, though.)

Big Fish. But I was on a date and we started getting frisky, so we changed locations.  >:D

We left "The year of Living Dangerously" in 1982 starring Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver. Worst movie I had ever seen.  I don't think I knew either of them at the time but obviously they made better films. Well I guess critics liked it but it wasn't much for teenagers.

The Purge.  Watching that movie was not a pleasuring experience.  Punishing was more like it.

Darkman when I was around 15 or 16. That movie was awful.

Twice...  My date and I left in the middle of Back to the Future II for pretty much the same reasons noted above by Tenshot, and once by myself during the movie Pitch Black, because I went after working a double shift and literally kept falling asleep.

Never. If I paid for it, then I'm sitting through it.

Fortunately, like Phish, I only go when I REALLY want to go see a movie, and most of the time they turn out pretty good. The only movie I would have left in the middle of was Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, what an abortion of a flick...



The ending was horrendous on top of all that.

The only movie I ever walked out on was The Scorpion King.  Of course, I snuck into it as I was really early for another movie, so it wasn't a big loss to leave early.  However, it was a truly awful movie, and I was extremely motivated to leave on that reason alone.

I once met a person who walked out of Spaceballs when it first came out.  I never talked to that person again.

Existenz  We made it through about 45 minutes and couldn't take anymore. Awful, awful movie.

It must be because I'm a Mawg.  Half man, half dog.  I'm my own best friend.

Almost walked out of Battlefield Earth. I took my son and thought maybe he was enjoying it even though I was not so decided to stay. After the movie was over and we were walking out and talked about how bad it was, he told me if I wanted to leave he would have agreed. Not sure if I would have done it at that point as I have never walked out of a movie that I paid for before, but it certainly crossed my mind that time.

My wife walked out of the Green Lantern. We went to the dollar theatre with my 2 grandsons to see something else but when we got there and saw the green lantern was playing we decided to watch it instead. About half way through my wife excused herself to go to the restroom and never returned. I have no idea what she did for 45 mins, so in that case she decided to simply wait for us for 45 mins then have to sit through to the end. That's harsh man. I didn't think it was THAT bad. LOL

I walked out of a comedy show once because I was on a date and it was clear she had no interest in me whatsoever. 

I can't remember doing that for a movie, except if I really had to use the bathroom, or was really hungry.

Was the show funny?  Maybe she was into watching the show.  Hell, even if she hated me I would have stuck around for the laughs.

Uhm...I'm sure I'll regret asking, but how do you know she had no interest in you? Wasn't she watching the show? Did you just leave her there?

I have a bad feeling we collectively opened a can of worms.

That's what I was wondering...

Idk, I didn't really care about the show.   I went to try to get a girlfriend, not to see a comedy show.  Once it was clear that wasn't going to happen, I couldn't possibly enjoy the show.

Oh of course not. I could tell just from our conversations the show started and the way she was interacting with me. 

At intermission, I asked what she thought.  She said she felt no connection, so I left.  We each had come separately, so she wasn't stranded.

On another note, I've been seeing this new girl for two months and it's been going great  ;D ;D ;D ;D   And the best part is, she was attracted to me for being a good person  ;D ;D ;D ;D   Score this one for the good guys.

Let's get back to movies.

I used to have a bad habit when I go to the movies of eating most of my popcorn and drinking most of my drink during the previews.  Now I know to space it out.

I often look forward to the previews as much as I do the actual movie.

At my local movie theater, you get free refills on popcorn and soda if you buy a large.  You should see if you can do that.

I have actually mastered this cinema-logistical task, and when I go to the theater by myself or with my roommate (we both dig doing Marvel movie and other sci-fi matinees on the big screen), I routinely dig out the last handful of popcorn and take the final slurp of soda as the credits start rolling. I have mad snack pacing skillz... ;D

It's not that.  It's just that midway through I'll have to go to the bathroom and thus miss the movie lol

To have truly mastered the science you must then get a refill as you exit the cinema. I have a buddy of mine that buys those huge zip-loc bags, takes one with him in the car, gets a refill as he's leaving and then dumps the full bucket of popcorn into the bag when he gets to the car and munches on it all week. Now that is mastery of the skill.

I see people mentioning talking and I'm glad to hear it.  I hate people talking in the movies.  It's incredibly distracting to me.  I especially get irritated when people are like "oh, that's the guy from this other show".  It takes me out of the moment.  I stopped going to the movies for a while because I had so much anxiety from being angry at people who wouldn't shut up.

The theater I go to doesn't do the free refill thing, so that option...isn't an option.
