Title: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Dave Gray on July 03, 2014, 03:31:14 pm I've been on a 3 show backlog cycle. I pick three shows on Netflix and watch whatever I feel like. When I complete a series or a season, I may move to something else.
Right now, I'm on: - Star Trek: Deep Space 9 -- I'm halfway through the final season. I will eventually move on to Voyager, but might try something else in the meantime.) - Arrow-- I'm about halfway through season 1. It's not great, that's for sure. I hear it gets better and my wife likes it, so I'm trying to finish through season 2 so we can watch it together for season 3 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- I've just started season 2. It's hot and cold, but I'm really enjoying it. It's way better than I thought and it's pretty dark. Lots of death in every episode. I always thought it would be more kiddish. I hear it gets a big bump in quality starting at season 3, so I'm excited to see where it goes. After this, I'm going back to House of Cards for the 2nd season. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: masterfins on July 03, 2014, 04:31:32 pm I'm watching the summer shows, Longmire is back which I like. Also, watched the new show The Last Ship, which is off to a good start. Watching the new episodes of Duck Dynasty, but that show seems to have run its course, nothing new really happens. Same with Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, American Restoration, Shipping Wars - same old, same old, not entertaining anymore. Have caught a couple episiodes of Big Smo, which is okay, nothing great though.
Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Phishfan on July 03, 2014, 04:40:21 pm I'm watching Longmire as well. Other shows on my Summer schedule are Fallen Skies, Graceland, Crossbones, & the final season of Wilfred.
Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Tenshot13 on July 05, 2014, 12:26:24 pm Wilfred and Falling Skies for me as well.
Under the Dome True Blood Prison Break The Ultimate Fighter Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Sunstroke on July 05, 2014, 02:37:10 pm The Last Ship is an excellent new show. Glad to see Under the Dome made it back. Defiance is back and is as weird as ever. Continuum is hanging on by a thread. Old shows I am catching up on now: Smallville Reaper (Thanks, Buddha!) ...and just waiting for all of my Fall shows to hurry up and come back. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: masterfins on July 05, 2014, 05:10:32 pm Yeah I'm watching Under the Dome also. Also, watching the new show Murder in the First, which I would recommend.

I might need to rewatch. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: CF DolFan on July 06, 2014, 08:29:41 am We had never seen Breaking Bad so we watched the whole series over the last few weeks. Trying to figure out what our next show will be.
Summer shows include Americas Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance and Under The Dome. We are waiting for The Bridge to return. I forgot Americas Got Talent. It's addicting. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Phishfan on July 06, 2014, 11:10:45 am We had never seen Breaking Bad so we watched the whole series over the last few weeks. Great series to binge watch isn't it. I did something similar just before the last season and watched the last one as it aired. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Sunstroke on July 06, 2014, 05:47:03 pm I did the binge catch-up with Breaking Bad after that show had wrapped up as well...definitely a prime binger. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Brian Fein on July 07, 2014, 10:09:45 am My DVR is perpetually empty. There ain't shit on in the summer.
... Shipping Wars ... I thought I was the only one that liked this show, but the new season has begun losing my interest. I really liked Roy, and the new people just suck. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: VidKid on July 07, 2014, 10:15:49 am Just finished Being Human (the now canceled US version, not the UK one) and will be starting Game of Thrones.
I'm also finishing up the now canceled Hostages. Once I finish, this will be replaced with Breaking Bad. I also watch Falling Skies, Psych, True Blood and 24. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Dave Gray on July 07, 2014, 10:21:37 am Are you planning on watching Game of Thrones by yourself or with a partner?
Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Brian Fein on July 07, 2014, 10:26:56 am I feel like maybe I'm missing out on shows that I've heard a lot about...
- Breaking Bad - True Blood - Walking Dead - Game of Thrones - Orange is the New Black - House of Cards I haven't watched one single episode of any of these shows, but I hear people talking about them all the time. Similarly, I heard the same type of buzz about Dexter and I thought that show was dumb. Is it too late to get into these shows? If not, what shows do the masses recommend (in what priority) as reasonable to catch up? Note: I do not have Showtime, etc. Being that there is nothing else on this summer, I could use the time to catch up on one or more of these, instead of watching re-runs of American Ninja Warrior. I can vouch for all but house of cards. - Breaking Bad - True Blood - Walking Dead - Game of Thrones - Orange is the New Black - House of Cards I haven't watched one single episode of any of these shows, but I hear people talking about them all the time. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Dave Gray on July 07, 2014, 05:06:39 pm I did not care for True Blood. The premise is interesting, but it's got Lost syndrome, where it gets increasingly more crazy and convoluted until it's uninteresting. My wife was the biggest True Blood fan, read the books, watched the show live every week. She lasted a while, but doesn't even watch anymore. I made it one season. Halfway through the second, I lost interest.

Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: VidKid on July 08, 2014, 12:06:02 pm Agree with Dave, True Blood just got ridiculous, but as i've mentioned before, I always need to see how stuff ends when i'm already this invested in a show. So i will watch this last season and bid it farewell.
Dave - will be watching GoT at the same time as someone else. should i be speaking with a fellow newbie as i watch or a vet? Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Dave Gray on July 08, 2014, 02:30:50 pm ^ With True Blood, I totally get why you'd stick to it if you'd invested this much. I felt similarly about the end of Dexter, which was a turd in its final season.
With GoT, understand that it's hard to get started. There are so many characters that are introduced and they aren't all important right away, so it's hard to get lost. Do your best, but power through. After about 4 episodes, you'll get the stride. I found it good to watch with another person: either a newb or a veteran, so that you can bounce stuff off of each other. All of the guys have long hair and are dirty, so it's hard to keep track of who came from what clan and all that, at least at first. But after that start, it's one of the best shows on TV. Both have some promise....really like The Strain so far.
Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: masterfins on July 23, 2014, 04:19:13 pm Anybody see the first two episodes of The Strain on FX, and Extant on ABC? Both have some promise....really like The Strain so far. I saw the first episode of The Strain, and liked it. There are 4 or 5 shows on Monday nights with new episodes I'd like to watch, luckily all are cable shows (except the Dome) so they replay them over the weekend, or the following week. No, I don't have a DVR, didn't want to pay the satellite company more money for something I'd rarely use. I'd hook up the VCR, yes I still have a couple working models, but I never used the record function on them even when they were the current technology. Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Dave Gray on July 23, 2014, 05:56:38 pm I started Star Trek: Voyager. I can't get a read on it, yet. Some people hate it like poison, others defend it as good TV. A few episodes in and it doesn't seem all that different than the TNG cast before they found their characters.
Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: Sunstroke on July 23, 2014, 09:21:21 pm I've started watching old episodes of Smallville lately. It's part of my "By the time I die, I will have seen every sci-fi show ever made" media bucket list. Yes, this means that I will eventually have to watch the two bottom-feeders of the Star Trek universe... Title: Re: What're you watching? - July 2014 Post by: mecadonzilla on July 24, 2014, 12:07:12 am I just started watching Dr. Who on Netflix starting with Christopher Eccleston's run at the role. I'm enjoying it for the most part. I don't know how else to spend the sparse amount of time in which I'm able to watch TV these days. (I have to fill that hole with something now that there's no GoT and The Walking Dead has yet to return.) I used to watch this show with Tom Baker as the Doc way back in the day when all you had to do was hint at sci-fi to get me to watch. I remember, as a child, thinking how cheesy the show was with its poor special effects and cardboard aliens. It's gotten better.
A lot of folks keep on telling me to watch Orange is the New Black, but since it's not occurring in space, I'm putting it on the back burner.
