Title: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 09, 2014, 06:56:53 pm For the wild card
Buffalo 5-4 Miami 5-4 Cincinatti 5-3-1 Pittsburgh 6-4 Baltimore 6-4 Kansas City 6-3 San Diego 5-4 Miami has the chance to defeat Baltimore and Buffalo this season. They have been defeated by Kansas City and Buffalo this season They defeated San Diego Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 09, 2014, 07:07:07 pm The map for Miami isn't difficult but its just no margin for error after today.
Probably a win....Minnesota and TWICE vs the Jets (both have terrible offenses and 2 of them are at home) Toss up games......Buffalo and Baltimore (both home) Probably a loss .....At Denver and At New England Miami is at 5 wins, win your 3 lock games vs teams with a god awful offense and nothing special on defense. Then win your two toss up games since both are at home. That gets ya to 10 wins. 10-6 in the AFC might not get a wild card but it gives ya a shot. Especially since KC has head to head tiebreaker over us. That's the map Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: EKnight on November 09, 2014, 09:56:21 pm Every 4 loss team in the AFC holds the tie-breaker over Miami. They're currently seeded 11th.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/standings/_/type/playoffs With the way the Jets handled Pittsburgh today, I wouldn't pencil them in as 2 easy wins. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: Spider-Dan on November 10, 2014, 02:05:16 am San Diego does not hold a tiebreaker over Miami. They hold a tiebreaker over Buffalo, who holds it over Miami. Not really the same thing.

The Jets with 1 win since Week 1 are now "great" overnight. Fireman EK is back! Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 10, 2014, 06:12:05 am San Diego does not hold a tiebreaker over Miami. They hold a tiebreaker over Buffalo, who holds it over Miami. Not really the same thing. That link FiremanEK provided is worthless anyway until every team has had their bye weeks and the bye is over with since until then the number of games each team has played isn't equal. Some teams have played 10 games and others have played only 9 which factors in that silly standing. After week 12 you will now the "true" standings. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: masterfins on November 10, 2014, 12:31:06 pm With Cincy, Pitt, Cleveland, & Baltimore all in the same division, they will be playing against each other and will knock two of them out of the playoffs. The Tie that Cincy has in the standings could end up being the deciding factor on eliminating a 9-7 team.
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 10, 2014, 02:06:08 pm With Cincy, Pitt, Cleveland, & Baltimore all in the same division, they will be playing against each other and will knock two of them out of the playoffs. The Tie that Cincy has in the standings could end up being the deciding factor on eliminating a 9-7 team. Totally agree. Plus KC has a really tough schedule here on out. Seattle, Denver, Arizona, Pitt, SD. They do have the Raiders twice, but if KC gets in they will earn it with that schedule. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: Brian Fein on November 10, 2014, 02:14:34 pm KC and San Diego are notorious for falling apart at the end of the season. I expect the same from them again. Also, I don't think the entire NFC North will be in the picture by week 15. Let's hope the Dolphins' home win over Baltimore knocks them out of the playoff picture.
Sucks that you will probably need 11 wins in the AFC, but the NFC will probably have 2 8-win teams in their wild cards... Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 16, 2014, 07:19:49 pm except for Cleveland losing the Dolphins did not get any help this afternoon. The Chiefs and the Chargers won today.
I will root for the Colts to beat the Patriots tonight. I will be rooting for the Titans against the Steelers tomorrow. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 16, 2014, 07:50:08 pm except for Cleveland losing the Dolphins did not get any help this afternoon. The Chiefs and the Chargers won today. I will root for the Colts to beat the Patriots tonight. I will be rooting for the Titans against the Steelers tomorrow. Saints laid down at home too for Cincy too which didn't help. But the Seattle loss to KC bugs me only because Pete Carroll totally mis-managed that game at the end. KC up 4 with about 6 min to go, Seattle has 4th down inside the 10 and he doesn't kick the FG he goes for it. Of course a few min later Seattle has the ball and driving near FG range, but now the FG doesn't help and they need a TD so they force some plays. Never leave points on the field and always extend the game. Carroll was bad today in that game with his decisions. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 16, 2014, 08:42:40 pm I would have kicked the field goal in the first situation, but even if it was 24-23 I would still have gone for it in the second situation. You have a better chance of converting that fourth down then kicking a field goal from that long.
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 20, 2014, 11:38:50 pm Oakland gave the Dolphins some help tonight with that win.
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 23, 2014, 03:50:34 pm No help so far with the Falcons and Texans both trailing late in the fourth quarter
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 23, 2014, 04:08:23 pm Browns just stole a victory from the Falcons to really hurt Miami.
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 23, 2014, 04:27:50 pm Browns just stole a victory from the Falcons to really hurt Miami. no it didn't, It's still November everyone needs to chill on the scoreboard watching a bit Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: EDGECRUSHER on November 23, 2014, 05:15:43 pm It's not too early to watch scoreboards when every game counts. The Browns win certainly wasn't a death blow to Miami, but it does sting. Especially considering the Falcons were winning with :38 left and just totally Falcon'd the game like the 4-7 team they really are.
Sad thing is, if the Saints lose to the Ravens tomorrow, they will be tied for 1st place. At 4-7. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 23, 2014, 08:48:58 pm Now I just saw how the SD-STL game ended
I'm just speechless Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 25, 2014, 02:18:23 am And the Monday night outcomes wrapped up this dreadful weekend for Miami.
Hope next weekend goes a whole lot better. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 30, 2014, 01:02:31 pm Who to root for? The Chargers or the Ravens?
Edit: The Ravens Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 30, 2014, 01:06:18 pm Who to root for? The Chargers or the Ravens? Chargers. Miami will have to beat Baltimore to "get in" plus the Chargers are probably destined for 3rd in their division anyway need Baltimore to lose a couple Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 30, 2014, 01:15:34 pm No the Ravens because both teams are 7-4.
The Dolphins can't close the gap any further with the Chargers themselves this year, but they can with the Ravens later this year. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: raptorsfan29 on November 30, 2014, 02:12:08 pm if you look at the big picture
The Wild Card standings are KC San Diego Baltimore Pitsburgh Cleveland all at 7-4 Then Miami and Buffalo at 6-5 According to http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine (http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/machine) btw, everyone should check this site out, it's fun to play around with it and see different scenios. Miami can become the second wildcard if KC, Baltimore, Pitsbugh and Cleveland lose. But if the same scenio plays out almost completely (this including miami wins) but Baltimore beats SD, then Miami is right behind pitsburgh for the final playoff spot. Because of stength of scheldule. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 30, 2014, 03:23:42 pm Doesn't look good for Pitt and Cleveland today as I type this, both are losing big. Cincy is in a dog fight too and could lose.
I think Baltimore will win the North when all is said and done. That Cincy tie could end up hurting Miami down the road. We will see Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 30, 2014, 04:08:32 pm Cincy got lucky. Should have lost
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 30, 2014, 04:26:45 pm SD pulled it out.
Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 30, 2014, 04:36:03 pm I think we need to root for the Broncos and the Bengals.
This is from my original impressions, I would have to look more closely to be sure. One thing is for sure; losing to the Jets tomorrow will really hurt Miami. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: MikeO on November 30, 2014, 05:50:17 pm I think we need to root for the Broncos and the Bengals. This is from my original impressions, I would have to look more closely to be sure. One thing is for sure; losing to the Jets tomorrow will really hurt Miami. If Miami loses to the Jets the season is over. Miami can afford to lose 1 more game (at NE) every other game is must win Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: dolphins4life on November 30, 2014, 07:37:36 pm Well the AFC North wild card Contenders are now 7-5, meaning Miami can catch them with a win tomorrow night.
The Chargers are 8-4 The Bills are 7-5. Title: Re: List of AFC contenders Post by: EDGECRUSHER on November 30, 2014, 07:53:47 pm If they lose to the Broncos tonight, Chiefs will also be 7-5.
Like we've been saying for weeks now, Miami needs/needed to steal a win from Broncos, Pats or Ravens while beating the Jets twice and the Vikings. Ravens seem like our best chance still after we gave away the Denver game. |
