Some that have not yet been mentioned that I loved.
Oblivion
Waterworld (Yes I know it's considered the worst movie of all time by some, I still LOVED it.)
Blade Runner
Alien
2010
Contact
Sunshine (Got a little weird at the end, but overall a great movie)

Planet of the Apes (the original) (but also the latest two) are great.

Nobody mentioned Star Trek.  I love this series.  I will defend Star Trek Into Darkness to my dying breath to haters.

As someone who doesn't traditionally like Star Trek, Into Darkness was very entertaining.  I don't get the hate for it.

Both of the new Star Trek movies have been excellent, imo...

Other relatively recent sci-fi movies I've enjoyed:

Edge of Tomorrow
Tomorrowland
Ex Machina
Every Marvel movie other than Fantastic Four
Chappie
Predestination
Big Hero 6

It is poo-pooed as dumb action without the thought provoking moments of the show.  I don't agree with that and think that the entire thing is incredibly thought-provoking.  Also, they say that it's all rehashed Wrath of Khan.

I agree with this, but this is why it's thought provoking to me.  It's an exercise in fate....a mirror universe very similar to what we saw in the show, with major events to butterfly-effect the progression of our characters.

So these are the same people that can't take Nick Fury being black, or War Machine changing his name to War Hammer?  Got it.

I really liked the 1st Star trek reboot, the into the darkness was good,I just forgot them..

It's probably better listed in the superhero, but it does sort of fit here...

Hellboy's - I like them both
Men in Black -Yeah probably listed as comedy too...
Close encounters of the third kind -IMBD listed it as Drama/sci-fi
Independence day - Again IMBb has it as one of the categories...
How to train your dragon

Oh,Oh,Oh...an old one..I've not seen in awhile...Legend

I've not seen the Martian yet...

Edge of Tomorrow was also a good Sci-fi flick that sometimes gets overlooked.
