Title: Billy Turner let go
Post by: Baba Booey on October 11, 2016, 01:55:35 pm
A terrible 3rd round pick and another wasted draft pick but thank god he is gone.

This front office didn't bring those guys in but yeah. Thomas was Ireland. Turner/Douglas was Hickey

True,But Grier was part of the front office.

Modified to add (had to make sure what his title was ) Chris Grier was the Director of College Scouting before being promoted to GM. (Suck at drafting, get promoted!)

Sorry, for posting that, I didn't realize that there was a thread going on our O-linewomen being cut. :-[

The positives that I'm taking from this is that we don't have to see those two hot messes on the field anymore and I like that Gase is obviously not someone who is going to tolerate underperformers and attitude problems on the team.  The downside to making the change now is (as I stated in another thread) that you aren't going to find any OL superstars sitting at home on their couch at Week 5 waiting for their phone to ring.  Quality OL guys are a pretty rare commodity in the NFL and if anyone is sitting at home available at Week 5 then that means that they aren't very good.  So don't necessarily expect an upgrade from Turner and Thomas.  But at least we will have a couple different guys getting Tanny killed every week instead of the same culprits week after week.

Well, I think Albert & Tunsil have already shown to be more than capable of protecting Tannehill's blind side this season when they are fit. Bushrod & James (if he finds some of his form like he had prior to this year) just maybe have some potential to be decent on the right side, although if James continues to struggle it may be worth kicking Bushrod over to tackle.

Turner had more than enough chances and had to go, although I also have to question the wisdom of starting him at left tackle next to Thomas. Had he played left tackle before in the Dolphins his entire time here? I thought most of the limited action he saw on the field prior to this was at guard? :-\

I'm pretty sure they said it was his first action there at any level.

Which brings me back to the question as to seriously what was the point of doing it?

I can see why Gase is protective of Tannehill, regardless of his contract his career as Dolphins coach is hitched to the guy - either make him an elite QB of they are both gone, it's as simple as that.

Gase's public blast of James was leading to this moment when guys who couldn't perform would get cut, we all knew it, but why even bother starting Turner at LT and Thomas at LG in the first place when we all knew in advance these guys were not remotely capable of doing the job? The moment I saw them named in those positions I thought someone was taking the piss - like really, that's the best you clowns can think of? ::)

After the game the cuts were not that surprising, but to even bother trying this in the first place.. either someone was trying to state the bleeding obvious, or the guys running the team as even more clueless than some of us even thought. :-[

Out of curiosity, who do you think should have been playing in those positions??

No Turner. No Thomas. HEALTHY O-line and  NOT SHOCKING the offense plays well!

All academic now, but I would have moved Bushrod over to tackle - I know he was supposed to be concentrating on learning to play guard, but wasn't he a starting tackle in a Superbowl winning team? James would be the other tackle, have the two turnstiles at the guard positions - I know options were limited at best, but at least we wouldn't have had those two bums next to each other, and even worse both given the job to protect Tanny's blind side.

Only just saw a few limited highlights of Ajayi rushing today - the right side of the line seemed to be lead blocking really well! Who were the starters?

It was the first time the 5 projected starters got to play all together and it showed. They did a really good job.  Albert/Tunsil/Pouncey/Bushrod/James

In the first half, Ajayi was 6 for 47 yards on runs to the left and 4 for 4 yards on runs up the middle and to the right.

He had some nice runs to the right during the second half, but up the middle was really tough going.

I wonder if Denver will keep him longer than Baltimore did (3 days).

He ought to feel special,2 teams had an inkling that he might be worth a waiver claim. No one has claimed Dallas Thomas,I thought I read a tweet in passing about Dallas Thomas was working out for some team.
