Title: Just for fun music thread
Post by: dolphins4life on October 17, 2016, 09:37:12 pm
What is your favorite band that has "And the" in it's name?

Mine would be Florence and the Machine.

I don't know that it counts all that much as they only did one album and tour. It is Robert Plant and the Band of Joy.

Hootie and The Blowfish!  Come on people, they inspired the website!

Side note, after the wife said I do, and we left the alter, the classical guitar guy we had playing played Only Want to Be With You as we walked away.

Good call on Huey Lewis and the News.  Love them.

Huey Lewis & the News... saw them on their massive Sports tour in London, and even got to listen to Huey play solo piano in a cheap dive bar the following day.

Siouxsie & the Banshees.  Excellent band

Country Joe & the Fish.  Dating myself here...

I should have know you would be the guy. I have no idea how many people I have mentioned this band to over the years and they did not know the group.

Iggy and the Stooges
Echo and the Bunnymen

^^^ I'm a little disappointed in myself for not listing Echo & the Bunnymen. If you play their greatest hits CD, it is basically the soundtrack of my 6 year tour in Germany in the 80's. Maybe mix in a little Men at Work and David Bowie as well... ;D

Oh yeah, they definitely rocked. One of my favorite female-led alternative bands, behind maybe only The Cranberries and Concrete Blonde.

My choice was a little biased by the fact that I have a huge crush on Florence Welch.

Some great bands mentioned, but it's really no contest:

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

I'll see your Springsteen:

Bob Marley & the Wailers

...and raise you:

Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention

A few others I like:

Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
Sniff & the Tears (great 1-hit wonder with "Driver's Seat")

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Prince and the Revolution
Paul Shaffer & The World's Most Dangerous Band (not a favorite)

^^^ Since I gave Joan Jett a rose at a concert during her Bad Reputation tour, I feel a little stupid for not thinking about that group.

Sorry dude, The Boss sucks.

I have to second pondwater with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Count me in the group that was never really that into Springsteen. I did like his early-early stuff a little, but once he got popular, I thought it all just sounded the same.

Tom Petty rocks...

I also don't love Springsteen.  I don't hate it, and I like him as a dude, but his music never spoke to me.

^ I was going to reply that! :D I was laying in bed lastnight trying to fall asleep that commercial for Austin city limits came on.I'd never heard of her before this thread...

+1 to what Dave said...Great Call on Tom Petty,Joan Jett and Bob Seger too!

Some good ones being named that I missed...I'd heard of Siouxsie & the Banshees because of a woman I dated...

While not my favorite, but a sort of flash back of my youth...D.j. Jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince

Love Zappa.  Makes me want to go home and break out my Joe's Garage LPs.

Those are three good ones.  I saw Tom Petty in concert 20 years ago, he is excellent.

Mainly 70s, 80s, and early 90s music is what I listen to. Maybe a some 60s stuff too. However 75-90 is where most of my listening is, even to this day. I tried real hard to think of a hard rock/hair metal type band but I couldn't come up with anything. Joan Jett and Tom Petty was the best I could do. I thought about this for a few hours, lol....
