Title: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Dave Gray on December 12, 2016, 05:44:51 pm My alma mater, Florida Atlantic University, hired known douche Lane Kiffin to be head coach. And though a douche, now he's our douche. I think it's a good hire for both FAU and for Kiffin. We need a name to help with local recruiting. He can't get another big job without going through a small school and he'll probably have free-reign with FAU to do whatever he wants.

He can load up on all the two and three star recruits that get rejected by Miami, Florida and Florida State. Coach them up and get to a mid tier bowl game. Conference USA is pretty equal talent wise. It's all about coaching.

Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Dave Gray on December 13, 2016, 11:00:58 am ^ Different stakes and different goal. FAU is still so young that they need a recruiting pipeline within the state.
Howard Schnellenberger helped start the program and build a stadium. The Hurricanes don't even have a stadium, so that was a big deal. There is a lot of talent in S. Florida and they can't all start for Florida/FSU/Miami. So, Kiffin helps bring in guys that either can't get on those rosters at all, or more importantly, guys that could make a Florida roster, but would be riding the bench for 2 years. FAU can showcase them and Kiffin can help get guys in the pros. Plus, it's not like FAU's competition is what Tennessee faces in the SEC. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Phishfan on December 13, 2016, 11:17:25 am And how is Lane Kiffin going to recruit those guys if the known story on him is he is only there to get a shot at another school? Players aren't looking for a head coach who bails like Lane Kiffin is known and expected to do. He isn't there to build that program.
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Dave Gray on December 13, 2016, 11:31:38 am Who knows how long he'll be there...certainly more than their 4 years, I'd think.
Plus, he's a big name. He's better than what we had, which are coaches that nobody had ever heard of. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Tenshot13 on December 13, 2016, 12:36:49 pm Kiffin is a great pickup for FAU.
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: BuccaneerBrad on December 14, 2016, 08:51:47 pm Kiffin wasted no time making a splash. He's gotten a commitment from De'Andre Johnson who made the news last year when he got kicked out of FSU for hitting a girl at a night club
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Fau Teixeira on December 15, 2016, 08:26:57 am I guess Kiffin doesn't pull his punches
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on December 15, 2016, 10:20:10 am Fau is going to be the home of every player too screwed up to meet the low behavior standards of other schools. Kiffin will make headlines probably win a decent number of games but puts the program at greater risk of NCCA sanctions.

Kiffin will make headlines probably win a decent number of games but puts the program at greater risk of NCCA sanctions. That's what I was thinking as well. The program might get 2 more wins per year, but the Boca Raton crime rate will go up. ;D Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: BuccaneerBrad on December 15, 2016, 01:46:17 pm That's what I was thinking as well. The program might get 2 more wins per year, but the Boca Raton crime rate will go up. ;D Considering the stadium's naming rights belong to a prison company, that fits perfectly Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Phishfan on December 15, 2016, 01:52:05 pm Considering the stadium's naming rights belong to a prison company, that fits perfectly That deal was cancelled due to pressure against the sponsor. It is just FAU Stadium. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Dave Gray on December 15, 2016, 02:33:02 pm ^ Too bad, too.
OWLcatraz would've been a sweet nickname. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Fau Teixeira on December 15, 2016, 03:17:08 pm ^ seriously !
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: BuccaneerBrad on December 23, 2016, 08:54:40 pm ^ Too bad, too. OWLcatraz would've been a sweet nickname. One thing is for sure. With De'Andre Johnson at QB, you have a good weapon on offense as he is a dual threat Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: DZA on December 25, 2016, 08:43:11 pm There is a lot of talent in S. Florida and they can't all start for Florida/FSU/Miami. Don't forget that there is UCF, USF, FAMU, BCC. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Spider-Dan on January 31, 2017, 11:19:48 pm Kiffin already firing up the troops!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZcMAYXxuY8 This promo has not been well-received. Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Phishfan on February 01, 2017, 09:19:59 am I saw a clip from that promo on ESPN yesterday. It was about the worst thing I have seen.
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: Dave Gray on February 01, 2017, 09:44:53 am I was fearing that video was going to end in scandal, so my expectations have been met.
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: CF DolFan on February 01, 2017, 01:41:15 pm That's like an SNL skit. Although not a fan ... I've always seen him as a fiery guy. I wonder what his deal was?
Title: Re: FAU hires Lane Kiffin Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on February 01, 2017, 05:25:36 pm Is that suppose to be a commercial for people come to FSU? People on TV talking about their favorite vanginal itch medicine sound more excited about the product than this guy does for the football season.
