have you seen the info-graphic about it? (http://unrealitymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/primer-chart.jpg) nothing says easy to follow plot like 9 concurrent timelines ! and dollar for dollar it was the best movie on your entire list. 7k budget for that whole movie. Post by: DaLittle B on August 30, 2017, 08:33:30 am Quote Invastion of the Body Snatchers 1956 version or 1978 version? I rewatched the 1956 version a couple years ago,Liked it for the most part...Quote Carrie Poltergeist (1982 Craig T. Nelson & Jobeth Williams, 2015 Sam Rockwell) The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951 Michael Rennie ,2008 Keanu Reeves) The Producers (1967 Gene Wilder,2005 Nathan Lane) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974 Marilyn Burns, 2003 Jessica Biel) Originals or remakes? I loved the originals of Poltergeist, and the Day the Earth Stood still... A lot of movies I liked on the list,a few I've seen a few times...I'm fairly odd,as I like the Arrival, and Bicentennial Man.I also have a softspot in heart for the Natural, and Trading places...(I still quote Trading places too often.... :-[) Title: Re: I watched 87 movies for the first time over the last year. This is the list. Post by: Sunstroke on August 30, 2017, 08:43:50 am On a quick scan, I've seen roughly half of the movies on that list. Pretty much all of the older ones, and a decent amount of the newer ones. There's a lot of damned good movies on this list. I'm fairly odd,as I like the Arrival, and Bicentennial Man.I also have a softspot in heart for the Natural, and Trading places...(I still quote Trading places too often.... :-[) I could take or leave Arrival (which is odd, given my background in cryptography), but Bicentennial Man and The Natural are both on my list of "Movies that I seem to like a lot more than most people I know." Post by: Phishfan on August 30, 2017, 09:49:47 am That is an impressive list and I must say that I'm a bit surprised some of these were your first viewing given how much you like movies.

I'm not sure if that means I'm doing something really wrong with my life or I'm doing something really right with my life. ;D

Post by: masterfins on August 30, 2017, 01:40:32 pm Some of my all time favorites on the list: Cool Hand Luke, The Natural (impressive list of actors in this movie), and Poltergeist. I also like The Color of Money, but you really need to watch The Hustler first in order to get the full meaning of The Color of Money.

I know The Sting would be in mine. Title: Re: I watched 87 movies for the first time over the last year. This is the list. I quite enjoyed Primer, but definitely had to read to understand it. I think you have to really carefully study to understand 100%, and even then, it's probably debatable, but to understand the story, in full, even the complexities, I think you can do by watching once and reading. To go it alone, it'll be really tough to figure out. I did watch Christopher Nolan's Following, which was made on $5000 pounds and I enjoyed it a lot. It's on Netflix. If you're looking for another interesting Time Travel film, TimeCrimes was pretty good, as well. Title: Re: I watched 87 movies for the first time over the last year. This is the list. Post by: Dave Gray on August 30, 2017, 08:43:31 pm Originals or remakes? I watched the original of every movie you listed there, except for The Producers, in which I watched the musical. ...not sure if that's considered a remake or not. I found both The Day the Earth Stood Still and Invasion of the Body Snatchers a tough watch. They're just so old and the pacing and acting is weird by today's standards. I liked Poltergeist (didn't realize it was as silly and "fun"...always thought of it more as a horror film. And I thought Texas Chainsaw was f'ing terrifying and creepy and really held up. I HATED Bicentennial Man, though. It was one of the worst films of the year, for me. I found it incredibly corny and cringey....some people love that movie...not sure what's up with that. I know The Sting would be in mine. It's really hard to compare old movies with new movies. Sometimes, when I watch an old movie, I feel like I'm "appreciating" it more than enjoying it. But I'm glad you mention the Sting. That movie fucking rocked my goddamn socks off. It was amazingly good and I loved it. It was definitely in the top few on the list, and it was absolutely the best of the old movies. Newer stuff, I loved Arrival (that seems to be "meh" around here) and I loved La La Land and Lion and Hell or High Water. And Sing Street and Baby Driver were a really good time. Post by: Phishfan on August 31, 2017, 09:53:58 am I loved La La Land Your movie credibility just got knocked down a few spots with me. :) Title: Re: I watched 87 movies for the first time over the last year. Post by: Fau Teixeira on August 31, 2017, 10:20:17 am 12 angry men is a good example of a movie that has 2 different versions .. the Henry Fonda version and the Jack Lemmon version .. and both are great and both are done in a way that fit the time that they were made in. I've watched both and it's really hard to pick a "better" version .. but I do have a favorite version.

My underlings at work will hear me reference a movie, ask me about, then say they didn't see the reference...They saw the remake.... |
